I can speak on that. I've been writing daily since I was a child. I'm 26 now. I remember skipping school once a week for 3 months in 3rd grade just to sit in the bathroom and write. I used to read the dictionary so I could learn more creative ways to express my wiring. I would write about science fiction, horror, mystery, psychology, common journaling, short stories, sometimes a full notebook worth. If you saw my closet in my office you'd assume it to abode the thoughts of a loony. I have boxes of loose papers that have even single lines on them I thought of and liked. Just an amalgamation of lines, poetry, and ideas. English teacher always thought my work was astonishing and pushed for me to publish something; I love her to death but that's the reason I just write and nothing more. I don't want to be "pushed". That's how you turn love and passion into disdain and resentment.

@@throckmorton3705 I'm not resentful, nor am I angry. I was when I was younger having to deal with a lot of family death, and I projected that in my stories, personifying my hate as evil demons. Now I just write out of passion and love. If I read a book I like, I write about it. If I play a game I like, I wrote about. Maybe something interesting on my life happens, I write about it. Maybe because I'm lonely and have no one to talk to, but we think in abstraction.

@@KmartKingpin what i mean is, the older one gets, the less one cares about writing, at least in my case. i produce about 50 pages a year of writing, something akin to prose poetry. once a year i print the pages and bind them. I’ve never shown my work to anyone. i used to write in journals, sometimes nice leather journals. ive long since tossed them out.

In “On Writing,” Stephen King says you should set a goal of at least 2000 words per day. That’s about 8 double-spaced pages. When you know what you want to write, 2000 per day is an easy goal. When you’re stuck, trying to connect two scenes, you find 2000 to be like climbing a mountain. In those times, I’ve found it best to move on and write another scene. The connecting parts will come to you in their own time. At least they do for me.

Here's the thing, your first draft is going to suck. But thats why you do multiple drafts. You might figure it out in second draft or it might take more than that. Just keep writing, your story will tell you what it needs to live. 2pages minimum a day everyday, thats all you need to get started. Good luck, hope to read your story someday.

All that matters in the first place is putting pen to paper! You could of course write on paper too. That’s the natural way

I NEVER wanted to be a writer, however I found out that I do have a bit of a skill in creative writing. I have changed so much as a man that I don’t have the same interests as when I was younger so just this week I decided to give writing a chance, just for fun. I haven’t written very much, however I have about 4k words in and about nearly 6 pages full of material and I’m barely scratching the surface of my story and it hasn’t been a whole week since I started. I’m happy because I’ve never done this before, not even in college english class. The most I’ve written so far was for English and it was 10 double spaced pages and I found that extremely difficult! If my calculations are correct I should have nearly 12 pages--if broken down to double spaced. I’m still new to the writing process, but what I love doing is being creative, creating something that I ENJOY MYSELF, if people connect with it then even better, however I get to decide what happens to the story, to the characters, etc. I love the total aspect of freedom I have, I envision my world as I write. I don’t set myself any set daily goal, I mostly go by emotion, if I feel energetic then I write, if I feel tired I take the day off. I noticed that when I’m tired from work, I don’t come up with material that I’m happy with and tend to make a lot more mistakes. When I feel rested and bored is when I come up with some really interesting ideas for my writing. I personally don’t think anything is going to materialize from my writing, but who truly knows, perhaps in the future people can enjoy reading it once I’m done with it. To me it’s more about quality than quantity, although I caught myself going back a few times and trying to edit, which felt like that was holding me back, so instead I’m just writing and writing then after a good amount of work I might skim to see what I might edit later.

2 pages a day, minimum Even if you don't feel like writing, just write the two pages. You might have something, you might not. Then one day, 2pages isn't enough, and you want, no you NEED to write more than 2 because on that day, thats when you've found your voice

I feel blessed to pursue my dreams as a writer. At 21, I was laid off from my job and I notice how many jobs these days pays but they are not reliable. I dedicated my blood, sweat, and tears in pouring my words into my first draft. I saw this as an opportunity to write my book. I just have to. I wanted to create a name for myself in this world. I’ve always enjoyed being creative, however I would say that writing was always my weakness. Just the last few years, I went back to college and the degree that I’m pursuing will require a long written paper. I had to drop most of my classes besides one due to unfortunate events, but I decided to prepare myself for the next semester to writing extensive work, so I thought. “Why not write a short story?” Writing a short story always felt silly to me, but I was really motivated so I sat down on my desk and pondered what to write about. I must have sat on my desk for about 2 mins when I realized that I had an idea about a story I had thought about a long time ago. So I said, might as well work on this, well it seems to be going great because it’s been two weeks in and I have about 7500 words in, this has been by far the MOST I have ever written even in all my english classes. It was a very ambitious goal for me since I struggled with writing, however I’m really enjoying my work and even the process itself. It seems that I like to mostly write on my off days, my ideas seem more fluid that way. I’m really impressed with myself because I never knew that I had it in me. 😂 Anyway, great video! I talk slowly but I write as fast as Ben speaks. Stream of consciousness is my thing. Have your set and setting. A few names you might like to use. Some symbolism and plot beats. Then I put on records and write all weekend. Do not disturb sign is up and I take breaks every couple of hours or so. Through the week, I work and then get time in for study and music production. Everyone has their own internal voice and their own writing style. I don't write a lot. But when I do I write a lot! This weekend I wrote a large part of a novel, several poems. And a short story. Just set the time and do it! Yes and!

To me the thing that helped me the most was consistency. I had my daily objective to write 300 words almost every day for almost two years. Even if I was aware what I wrote wasn't the best and not what I had in mind, I continued writing, I would fix later what I didn't like. Also, my main advice is to stick with one project and not start new ones. You have new ideas? Good, try to re-adapt them to the already existing project, add depth to your work. I'm definitely not a successful writer. Heck, English is not even my first language, but I still managed to publish my book and even get a physical copy, and when you hold for the first time the thing you have worked so hard for in your hands, it doesn't matter if it will be successful or not, it doesn't matter if it's a masterpiece or a piece of crap, you'll still love that feeling. One last thing: write because you love to write, not for success or money.

Raymond chandlers stories are some of my favorite dramatic and thematic influences when it comes to crime drama writing. I researched his work for a week before I wrote my character I was doing research on. I looked at a ton of hardboiled detective fiction and Philip Marlowe was my overall favorite and a big influence on my original character.

Unrelated question. I love outlining and worldbuilding, but I find the actual writing difficult. I think I enjoy it but it’s also very hard for me. I’m a perfectionist who agonising over every sentence & I’m not even a good writer so I know every sentence doesn’t even turn out well. I also struggle overwriting everything. I find it hard to summarise and turn every little moment of the character’s actions into a page of wasted filler. I’m not very visual and always struggle to come up with descriptions for scenes & characters. But I love stories, character arcs, & dialogue. I’ve thought about maybe trying a different medium rather than novels. Maybe screenplays but I do want to write novels. Any advice?

Something that always helps me is reading other people's writing. Seeing how they craft their sentences, how they describe things happening how much detail they put into specific things. Whenever I don't know how exactly to write a scene, I look at someone else's writing to give me an idea of how to handle it. My English teacher told me to "be a magpie, steal the shiny things", meaning any time you see a word or anything you'd like to include in your writing, make a note of it! Interesting words are shiny, but it's hard to just think them up on the spot. It doesn't have to be perfect! You can paint a picture in people's minds without describing every detail, because most of the time, the reader will be imagining it in their head even if it isn't explicitly stated :) If you enjoy writing, just write. Get all of your thoughts down, then go back and edit, but don't fret too much about making every sentence perfect. Cut as many words as possible; more often, the fewer words you have, the more the important words will shine. Sorry if that was a lot, not sure if this helps but hopefully it gives you an idea!

This advice to write for 2,3,10 hours a day doesn’t work unless you already have your story figured out. I don’t write 4hours a day, but I draw maps, design character arcs, plot twists, write histories, lore, family trees, magic systems, and other things pretty much all of my waking hours. I don’t know if this makes sense but I “work on my book” instead of “writing my book” - when I’m done working on my book then I’ll sit down for 4 hours a day to write it 😅

A bit of advice from somebody who is absalutely not an expert but its to find youre pace. Some writers can absalutely freestyle a book. Some have a loose script and they are just navigating it. Some have a set of ideas and build their way to them. Some writers plan out the story for a while. I absolutely wouldn't recommend free flowing. Free flow begining to end writting isn't pacient and I would recomend it for short stories which tend to have less charaters less need to flesh things out it mitigates the long term issues. Organic writing has its place v8nce Gilligan's og plan for Jesse was to die in season 1 episode 9 of breaking bad. Had vince followed thay plan the show would be completely different. Jesse is one of the best charaters and a season 1 death would of hurt the show. You see you don't need a large systematic plan but you do need q plan of sorts. I use a combination of planning organic writing and creating scenes a head of time and deciding do they fit and how do I get there. A good writer if given a checklist should be able to naturally check the boxes off. If A seperates from his team mate B they don't get back together just because. Now it would be hard if they genuinly hate eachother. Well what if A gets back with B because they find out despite hating eachother they still know they are the perfect team despite the arguing. It depends on your story. Historical fiction requires you to Google everything I mean everything like did you know nobody was named Britney until the 60s. Sci-fi yoy got a world with rules and charaters factions ect So that's to qcount but the basic foundation that has nothing to do with the world should be done at a pace you worn with because your style of writing may not be this 1000 peice puzzle.

The truth is that nobody is a bad person if they lean in a different direction but we act like it we paint people who we disagree with as lesser one way or another like I don't like the left or the right but people do need to be reminded they arent the center of tbe world. Every video like this is a disservice to new writers. You cannot copy another writer's process with the expectation that its going to work just as well for you. It won't. You have to naturally form your own process over time. So the guy writers four hours a day. Great. What happens when the first draft is done? Do you edit yesterdays pages tomorrow? Do you reread yesterday's pages? Do you outline? Do you pants the whole draft? Do you write with 4 drinks in your system? There is no right answer for all, but there is a right answer for you. The only way to find it is to search for yourself.

Test story: Salvia was born from a Pacifist Krovian family. She was taught and has pacifist tendencies, which is the most important custom in their sub-religion. But her elder sister, Velas, was against her family's pacifism, as she thought it is unable to teach Salvia how to survive in the ongoing tyranny, where anything can happen anytime. Because of Velas' endless lessons, Salvia's perception of pacifism was altered, but she tried to keep her faithfulness. Until one day, Goran forces raided their home and tried to execute her family in the process because they kept a child. Velas was attacked from the raiders, and Salvia finally attacked the raiders to try and save her, but it was too late. Salvia would finally have her first kills, but at the cost of her sister's life and her innocence. After the incident, Salvia was never the same but she still tried to stay faithful to her religion, even though she felt guilty as she broke the most important law of Divine Krovinity. Her family would console her about what she did and forgive her, and Velas herself for teaching the family a lesson about war and how to survive it. When Salvia reached her puberty, she would part ways with her family to join the Servants of Peace, while her family moved to the second layers, in which they were saved by the West. They both sent their goodbyes, and moved on from there.

I'm working on my first Novel, so I'm keeping each chapterr around 1500-1600 words it's a fast paced Sci-Fi, Action, Family Novel, how many chapters would be needed to consider it a Novel, I know some Novels contain around 3k words per chapter

i wrote a scene of a novel months back for the first time.. Idk if it happens to all the writers.. stories, characters used to come to my mind it was like as if they are knocking n waiting to be written i used to ignore them they'd stay in my mind n would disappear eventually. I don't read novels a lot but still my mind would create unbelievable scenes of the stories .. Then i thought i should write them down n see wt happens n how'd it proceed.. when i started to write i felt weird bcoz characters kinda start to stay within us like ghosts.. I'm a sensitive person it made me so restless .. Felt an unrest even when i was relaxing.. N also i can't read or write for too long (4hrs is too long for me) coz i get headaches.. So these two things made me kinda hesitant to continue the novel I've started n I'm thinking should I continue to write I'd get used to it or may be I'm too sensitive to write. P.S Also writing in English is kinda difficult for me as its not my first language so I'm also suspicious of every line i write that may be its wrong or not a gud line

That goes for anything. Do anything all at for 4 to 8 hours and youll be a pro regulardless of where you start. Generally i mean you cant have a iq of 90 and do anything but if youre competent you can do anything
