Space Engineers: The Center (Episode 2) - Expanding the Base!

Welcome back to our Space Engineers mini series "The Center"! In this episode, we design and build an experimental new way of collecting stone using gravity! We also install some new machines and conveyors to connect some of the base together. Finally we work on expanding our center of the earth base using drills!

If you want storage attached to your base, you can build an advanced rotor with a small head and pile small grid medium containers on the sub grid

That even works with small grid large containers, as they also do not require grids (although they are basically identical to large grid small containers)

Welders are less of a hassle, are cheap and have a decent amount of storage.

To make this series last longer if you want, you can build some ore patches and have a datapad with the cords fall from the tunnel.

Alternatively, something like calling for help by getting a beacon operational at full range (200km + insert a short help message as HUD Text) would be a cool and funny thing to do. Someone will eventually pick up the signal and then dump some desperately needed ressource down the hole

You should replace one of your floor-level blocks with a sideways rotor to flip you. Put limits on it so it only rotates 180 degrees, place a control seat on a block attached to the rotor head, and set the rotor's reverse action on the control seat hot bar.

A rather simple way to stay on the ground all the time would be to make an orb of blocks around the center, i.e. create an artificial core where you can stand on. You can also still rotate if you have your dampeners always off, that way you'd need no fuel to reorient yourself PS: If I recall correctly, if worst comes to worst, you can respawn to regain jetpack fuel. Though that kind of defeats the challenge.

Thank you for the tips! A bunch of small grid blocks in the center would be a good idea if I could get it to be big enough. Idk how it would react with the magnetic boots though! Turning off the dampeners is a great idea and I dont know why I havent done it yet!

@@AndrewmanGaming Oh, I missed the fact that you can use the mag boots in the center. Now, that I am thinking about it, this is ideal for the rounded armor blocks to walk (no sprint) to the other side of your platform. The block sphere I suggested earlier would have to be in stronger gravity which automatically reorients your character

New rule... No respawning to get more fuel. That would be cheating! You would immediately fail the challenge and your viewers would be disappointed.

Glad you are feeling better... RL happens. There has to be an antenna on the grid for you see ore(s) when just walking around. Like a few others have mentioned a large grid rotor grin off head attach a small grid head and then build small grid version antenna, batteries, timer blocks... less components to build and mining. Power cells are iron, nickel and silicon ... a very renewable resource at the moment. building small grid battery(ies) setting them to discharge will charge the large grid and you will only be out 20 power cells each battery you build. The despawn of ore(s) / component(s) is based on how many floating object you have set in the world setting and the trash clean up ... on how much is actually reaching the collector... going up in the gravity field will not help that give it more time to get cleaned up.

What you could do is build a turret control then command chair. Then a rotor attach a hinge then attach a piston or 2 to that and then a drill. You will get lots of stone that way.

there are plenty of servers with jetpacks and thrusters turned off completely with no alternative and its absolutely playable.

@@angeltensey you missng the point the no jetpack servers are land based planetary in gravity meanwhile this series one of the challenges is the zero g environment running out of jetpack is very much an issue here

You can use adv. rotor with small head and slap plenty medium cargo containers, like cargo bank :D Also, build another battery, recharge the main one and grind down empty one, repeat until you have full battery then build one more and repeat steps (when you have 2 or more main batteries, put them all to recharge, otherwise it will also drain from main one while charging new one, when they're charged, put them on auto and grind down empty one :D (little cheese way of refilling batteries but still :D ), also, it cost you only 80 new power cells, all other components you already have :D Nice series Andrew, keep up great content

Hi, I didn't comment on the last one since it was already over two weeks ago but this one is only a few hours old. This is an interesting SE challenge. I am not sure I could do it myself but it is fun watching you try. You managed to get power sorted in time but you might run out of hydrogen pretty soon so I hope you can get to a point where you don't need the jetpack anymore. Just don't get stuck without a way to get back to your base or it's 'Game over!

Gravel sifter? For more ores, and use rounded slopes to walk you around to the other side. Like in a big circle

There’s a mod, modified stone crusher, that will process stone into trace amounts of all ores.

A larger series of ladders might be helpful. With the unpredictable gravity and the need to flip yourself, ladders may be the most reliable way to get around.

The use of ladders once you get off the ladder with no block to magnetize to it will automatically activate your jet pack

I had an idea for a potential mini-series: try surviving in a world that has nothing, no planets or asteroids. I think that would be interesting to try, although very tedious.

I know you said you don't want any mods that changes the game BUT what do you think about the moisture vaporator mod? It pulls moisture from the air to make ice. It's a slow process and I figured you could cap yourself off to 1 as to make it a slow process.

Mag boots won't work in a gravity well. A better solution is to make a 'ramp' around the center of gravity.

use Corner Round blocks to form a rotation area to flip to the other side by just walking. add the Auto-collect Ores Mod. that will collect all ores when you left click drill. for mining and ore or stone collecting in low or flat spots, check level and ensure there is a slope so materials will roll or fall in the desired direction Piston/Rotor Drilling Rigs need a connection to the Refinery and storage as they will produce a TON of material. for material ore or other resources you don't have. there is a rather large hole/Pit Trap that claimed you and will most likely claim others as time passes. this will on occasion drop damaged items containing components or ores you don't have. this is not cheaty. to return to the surface, a piston based crawler with a drill head and 2 Landing Gear will permit you to inchworm your way out. with a large enough bore hole, you can place Turbines on the trailing side attached to a shaft so they will still generate power as you climb. the previously posted deep ore deposits could be added if desired and could include Ice Deposits.

The new standing control station in cockpits uses less components than that control station that you built also using small grid stuff might help like you did in the economy series😊

If you can't make cargo container because no cobalt. Build a connector. they don't need metal grids and they take half the capacity of a cargo container.

with the hydrogen issue have a look and see if you can build a hydrogen tank and a air vent set to depresurise since you have oxygen then all you need is a bottle to refill

the problem with the collector is rock is despawning - thats why youre not getting much rock returned - Funny thing about being in the centre of the planet is all the gravity would actually flow towards the surface :P (i'd love to recreate this with a spherical gravity gen pushing out XD might have to just for fun now

Every time u die and respawn ur hydrogen gets automaticly refueled to 100. Thats up to u if u wanna do that and be cheeeeeecky 😅😂

It's a shame you can't pull hydrogen out of the atmosphere like you can oxygen otherwise that would be super easy, just create an airtight volume with a door and a vent, as you decompress the space you open the door and it just fills all attached O2 tanks. Pretty sure it doesn't fill H2 tanks though.

It doesn't need to be air tight, air vents will take it straight from the sky if it isn't inside a room

I was just going to suggest this! If you want to avoid clang, I'd suggest finding a way to have just one piston push a line of conveyor tubes with a drill on the end. I know it's possible because I've done it before, I'm just not sure how to describe it.
