Y'all gotta give it up to Andrew for this series! In a behind the scenes world, it was really cool to have Andrew spotlight us and all of the other studios. We all put everything we have into our builds, our music and our careers. Kudos to everyone going down this road, it's the new frontier in media production, so let's keep helping each other learn and grow. xoxo

Just watched a video from the CEO of PS Audio giving his take on the question: Why are most musicians not into high end HiFi audio? His answer wasn´t stupid but I read a comment that made a WHOLE lot of sense. "What is a musician?" Answer: Someone who driving $15.000,- worth of gear in a $500,- car to a $50 gig...........! All of the studios you gave us this past year have been magnificent because they are ALL expressions of will, dedication, passion and perseverence,- sometimes against the odds,- and people made it happen anyway. Way To Go! Thank you for a fantastic year Andrew,- happy New Year to Ariana, Jack and you,- and happy New Year to all and everybody who are part of this dedicated niche community called modern day musicians, engineers, producers,- in short,- music studio geeks!! :) In the words of the late GOAT Ronnie James Dio: WE ROCK

Thanks for creating these informational videos with some very impressive studio spaces on all levels, Minimal, detached, and attached! I like the 1st one for minimal, 601 in Austin, TX., detached, and Jake’s studio for attached!

Marcus' set up had the recording feng shui, the lighting and the vibe just seemed right. Greybox was cool for the clean lines and the isolation. Some of the other places had lots of cool gear but they were cluttered and/or dark. Vibe is 51%, go for the vibe every time.

These home studio tours have been my favourite content to watch this year, thank you so much Andrew for being awesome. 1. For the attached category I choose lake house, partly because I love recording live instruments and found his use of the floating sound panels really inspiring if I were to ever find myself in a space that I couldn't structurally treat. 2. Graybox.... this is my favourite studio tour over all in every category, so cool! Shout out to natural light in studio's! 3. Brilliant recording was just incredible, love the way the space was organized and designed.

It's honestly so hard to even begin to pick... What I love about personal studios is that they're all the best for the people who are in them, and I love seeing all the different ways people are working. There were some crazy ones that win in the conventional sense on the list, but these are my choices. In the detached category, I'm going to give it up to Studio 601, both as a Barefoot aficionado but also as a fellow single-room'er. Single room studios come with an interesting and very real set of compromises, but for smaller projects that are overdub heavy rather than full band takes they are SO FAST to work in, so I love seeing people who are making it work. Attached, I'm going with The Elephant Room. Super smart in-home conversion that makes the most of the space without doing much of the type of construction that starts to affect resale value, and reminds me of (a MUCH NICER version of) my old home studio in the early 2000s. Minimal? Lake House. Another awesome single room space, very smart gear choices for an affordable minimalistic setup, and we have no choice but to stan an effectively perma-mic'd house kit, because EFFICIENCY EFFICIENCY EFFICIENCY

1. 601 for totally non-technical reasons: I really liked the vibe of the place with the wallpaper and textiles in the booth. 2. The Carriage Works because of the desk and amazing gear. 3. The Elephant Room because that gives me goals about my roof/loft space

Sweet roundup! I votes:- Best Minimalist Setup - Ryan Schulze (Lake House was really close, but is there setup really minimal?), also, I just really dislike how Lake House's monitors are firing towards the long-wall. That's just my personal bias there, and I understand he had to accommodate for the drum set. Best Detached - Taking no credit away from the other studios, Graybox Studios, easily! This is borderline my dream setup, or can easily be my dream setup lol. Best Attached Room - It was a toss-up between Josh Colby and Brilliant Recording. I loved both spaces, almost equally. Josh's aesthetics appeals to me more, but I have to go with the building-from-the-ground-up approach with Brilliant. As someone who built my setup not too long ago, by myself...with almost zero help, I can appreciate the amount of hard work that went into Brilliant Recording. Although they've all worked hard, over years, to get to where they are, the construction of Brilliant Recording was a HUGE undertaking.

wasn't expecting a video so close to the holidays! What a pleasant surprise. Hope you and your fam had a good one! 1. Lake House seems like such a creative space I love it. Ryan was a close second, mainly because its very similar to my own setup situation 2. Carriage Works cause I'm a sucker for vintage electronics, but graybox is N U T S 3. Brilliant get the win from me as a local and as someone who has only ever heard good things from there!

These are all awesome and I hope you continue this series in some way... That being said, with a few exceptions where professionals came in and acoustically treated the spaces; I'm really surprised how many of the studios DIDN'T follow 'recommended' set-ups (e.g. in a rectangular room, not setting up the listening area in parallel and often set up on the short side of the room... and had such minimal or 'less effective' acoustic treatments. These cool and trendy studios would really benefit from enhancing these fundamental areas... just a thought. Thanks for the videos Andrew!

Not to complicate the adjudicating of these studios, but these categories could be broken down into further sub-categories of "new" structure construction, versus renovation of pre-existing structures. I love what Eric has done with Studio 601, and since I've tracked an album there, I'm biased, they produce great sounding records. But the Gray Box studio is a whole other animal!

Yes, form an LLC and write off all that you can. Get an accountant, it may seem unnecessary but I did when I was only pulling in $4-5k a year from music and they helped me free up the funds to get the tools I needed to work at a pro level.
