Place the workstation right (about one third into the room), place the monitors on seperate stands in a triangle (60 degrees for every angle), put some DIY broadband absorbers on the reflection points and into the corners floor to ceiling. And then work around that. Cheap and effective!

This is an impressive place. No brand snobbism, no musician wanting to be a producer/engineer, no museum display of collectors items,- just to the point professionalism in the entire setup and execution. Impressive place and most likely a consumate pro in his approach to the work he does too. Respect.

It’s intentional. People who limit “home studios” to having to be cheap or lacking, are only limiting themselves. Proof is in the pudding, quality high end home studios exist and can be whatever you can imagine.

@@AndrewMasters Well I'm not saying they have to be super small or lacking but IMO having a studio in a house doesn't necessary make it what I understand as a "home studio". But I see your point.

@@AndrewMasters It's more the sheer size of space you have to work with in your homes in the US - I'm converting my garage into a studio this year and I feel really lucky to get a 4.5m x 2.3m space and seeing all these home studios packing more than a metre of treatment on the back wall makes me so jealous haha.

The one in the middle is a beast. I don't know that I would recommend anyone to build that, or at least the way I did it. Probably easier to do it the blackbird way and CNC all the skyline of an entire column in 1 sheet then sandwich the sheets together. BUT, those corner ones are SUPER easy. They are just 2x4s ripped down the middle with mdf on top and bottom with the pattern drawn out. Screw through the top to each piece, paint it, and you're good to go. You could add a back, but I opted to put fabric on the back, keep it open, and let the sound continue on into the other Bass trapping behind the wall.

I’ve been using the Xkey37 as my desktop midi controller for about a year and it’s pretty sweet. Love your studio, and props on transitioning to fully in the box. I love all my outboard gear, but maintenance, recall, and everything that comes with it can be such a pain in the ass sometimes. But to me I still prefer the sound of hardware to most plugin emulations so I don’t think I have the balls to transition yet 🤣 Also have a KRK Sub, but only one! Great spot! Happy holidaze!
@thewarrendavid
@thewarrendavid 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. It was tough to sell off a bunch of that gear and mics, but if I'm mostly mixing, then I want to have the room/gear tell the truth, and I want a workflow that compromises as little as possible while being as efficient and minimal as possible. It really is tough because that gear DOES sound killer.
@aarons6617
@aarons6617 3 жыл бұрын
@@thewarrendavid Yeah, I feel you man. Another thing though is that the gear (for me at least) can save time in mixing because it gets me to the sound I want quicker, where it might take fiddling with 3 plugins to achieve what one piece of hardware does in 30 seconds of tweaking. But I’ve been so frustrated when I want to work on multiple mixes at once, but I decide against it because I don’t want to change settings on all my 27 pieces of gear (just counted) constantly between different mixes... blah! All hardware needs digital recall! Sometimes I think “Maybe I’ll just keep a 2 buss chain and sell everything else.” But then I know I’ll want my LA-2A and Maag for my vocal...and then I can’t leave behind my Pultec for bass...then I’ll want everything in my drum buss chain and so on... then I’ll never sell anything, and end up buying something new! 😂 Sorry for the rant, but the struggle is real. I just need to come to my studio one day and find all my hardware gone, but a large stack of money remains.

First, Warren, super chill dude!! Now I’m going to show my lack of knowledge...when talking about computers and such what is a “HACKINTOSH” ?? Have heard this used before and as of this moment am still on the fence about how to spend my money on a computer that fast enough for not only audio files but for video editing purposes as well!! Could you elaborate on what he was talking about how he is using a (4 input mic) to analyze the room?!?!? What’s the function and purpose of this mic and does it analyze the spectral sounds of the room?? Again I’m probably showing my lack of knowledge or understanding. Love the way you have the deep diffusers and the unobstructed walls for a “truer” replication of sounds, I can imagine you could also utilize the untreated lobby area for a live drum room. Very cool studio, thanks again Andrew for yet another great tour!!
@thewarrendavid
@thewarrendavid 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks man. Hackintosh is parts that you would build for a PC, but you install mac os on it. Its gotten much easier to install these days with guides and builds from TonyMac and others. Check out my website field notes on Hackintosh and that has a lot of information about the build. The 4 input mic comes with the Trinnov ST2-Pro room tuning system. It has 4 omni heads that are used in the calibration of the room. There are videos online of how the Trinnov works. Hope that helps.

I love these tours but I'm often struck by the cheap or even crappy chairs these guys use. My chair is almost the most important thing in my room (office or studio) and statistically, the thing I use the most. I wonder if you could include inquiries about chairs into your tours?? This guy looks like he has a $50 chair....and his guest chairs are like what....$300/each...at least?

Appreciate it! I'm putting together a spotify playlist of all the music for my channel. Too many songs per video to credit every one each video, so i'm just gonna link a playlist.

First let me say that’s a awesome studio. Nice work.... However Teddy Roosevelt was a known racist so pick your heroes wisely.
