I just started learning to slope this year. As I get better I'm learning you can find up draft almost anywhere, buildings, trees and fences. So relaxing

Yes, I love sloping off small dunes on the beach with a DLG

Your two flying spots in one video Andrew....What an epic location....🤔😳😏🇬🇧
@AndrewNewtonАй бұрын
Yes it's a great spot. 90m at the peak so lots of lift even in light wind.

Just saw this technique for adding dihedral. Immediately thought of you. Can't thank you enough for all you've given. Will miss the slope soaring but look forward to your dive videos. Former PADI Instructor. Stay safe❤ kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5-qpYx5Zdisrbcsi=pOGohoo9Fo2EBbs2

I am not clear, how is this flying?

The wind hits the slope and is deflected up it, the glider balances it's glide slope against the wind, and the wings create lift, trade speed for height, trade height for speed - have fun
@EleanorPeterson2 ай бұрын
Do you mean the physical process of staying up? If so, the glider is using the wind blowing up over the slope to stay aloft. As the wind blowing up the hill must always be rising, a plane (or bird!) can soar in it. Although the glider is always descending, as long as the wind is blowing strongly enough, it will provide enough lift to keep the plane airborne. Slope soaring is great fun because you're getting something for nothing. Full-sized gliders use the same process when soaring above ridges, cliffs and mountains. Depending on the weather, the 'waves' of air rising over a slope can settle into permanent patterns, creating other waves above themselves, so with skill (and luck) you can climb to tens of thousands of feet using no energy whatsoever.🙂

@@EleanorPeterson Well apart from the effort of hauling an ancient carcass up onto that Bluff. At the beginning the heavy breathing sounded like it might soon be, as around here, a case of "Get out of there ya dumb old fart! No consideration for the Emergency Services personnel who are gonna have to retrieve the corpse!" 😜😂😂
@AndrewNewtonАй бұрын
This old fart ran 10k this morning. (I say "ran" but it did include some walking)

@@AndrewNewton Skite!!! 😜 Sadly this Old Fart couldn't walk outta sight on a dark night these days. Just hobbling across the old ultralight strip to retrieve the pieces is getting to be a Marathon as a lifetime of hard work, accidents and busted bones finally catches up with us. 😢😈
