I mainly fly quadcopter's but after watching a lot of your videos, you've inspired me to try fixed wings. Can't wait for the FX-61 to come in, I'm definitely going to install an iNAV system. Thanks!

Good choice, that is the perfect wing for iNav

Get I nice little folder chair to sit in when you do long fpv flights, it makes for a much more relaxing flight, and some fpv flights will definitely be longer than LOS flights, cheers Andrew👍

I have one in the car for those long flights down the coast, if I ever get around to doing it.

I am looking forward to your sky hunter doing a long range fpv flight, maybe a flight up and down the coastline. My idea of a long range flight is anything up to and beyond one kilometre, I don't think I could sit there and fly for more than 30 mins. How people do 3 hour flights and travel over 20kms amazes me.👍

Andrew thanks for the prompt reply - At 0.54s - `ESC [Pos Neg Sig ] goes into Q1`... The rest then appear to be signal only [servos powered by the made up strip via the ubec]. ? I can see how the Rx leaches power from the nav - but it appears to be from the `Q1ESC input`.. So if the motor ESC failed - the power to the inav/rx fails also. -Have I had too many festive drinks ...:-]

Oh yes it does look that way, but the red wire in the ESC cable (going into Q1) is actually connected to the UBEC not the ESC. I didn't explain that well. Either way would work OK but it is safer to power the board with an accurate 5.0V BEC

Perfect ? thanks again. Did you'd the inavOSD into your builds? Best way to incorporate?

Yes I did a setup video for the OSD on the Zephyr wing about a month ago.

Alignment of the GPS puck is not required on fixed wings since you typically will not be using the compass since the model can only fly forwards. The Flight controller can calculate heading based on the changing GPS coordinates. Alignment is important for helis and multirotors however since they can be flown in any direction. Search Ebay for DuPont connectors. Servo plugs are just 3 pin DuPont. You will find various lengths of housings from 2 to 10 pin. By using an appropriately sized housing the wiring can be made almost fool proof

Hi Andrew good how to as usual. I have a question that has nothing to do with this subject. I have been given a broken HZ super cub airframe which I have repaired and am now fitting electronics to. what I'd like your opinion on is should a novice flyer have ailerons or just rudder and elevator.
@RobB_VK6ES
@RobB_VK6ES 7 жыл бұрын
That is not really a expert/novice issue. It rather depends on the model. If the wing has little or no dihedral it will not turn well with rudder only and will not self level the wings to a stable attitude. In the case of a CUB they are generally easy to fly so I would not hesitate to fit ailerons particularly if the model was designed with aileron use in mind. Try to find an experienced pilot to help get you set up, airborne and trimmed out.

Rob B thanks mate unfortunately I don't know anyone else who flys . The clubs around Adelaide want so much for membership that it just won't happen thanks again for the advice.

Yes Rob is right, the Cub needs ailerons to fly. A rudder elevator plane needs dihedral in the wing or turned up wing tips. A rudder elevator plane might be easier as a first plane but as soon as you get your orientation skills ailerons would be OK.

If that is the same Hobby Zone Super Cub that I learned to fly on, then no you don't "need" ailerons to start flying it. It has a ton of dihedral which makes it turn just fine with rudder only, and has the bonus effect of making it fairly self leveling when you let go of the sticks. That can be a helpful feature when first learning to fly. Once I got comfortable flying the Cub the way it was, I built a 2nd one out of spare parts, and flattened the wing, and added ailerons. Then I was really rolling! (pun intended)

Doug Wagner thanks mate thats what I thought as it does have good dihedral.

Hi Andrew - Given that your using a ubec only for the servos, it looks like the power to the inav & rx comes from the ESC. I ask as the ubec I have from Multiwii suggests disconnecting the ESC positive - connect as usual & run ubec power to rx?. I can see a logic to both - Help :-]

Hello Sean. I'm using the CarbonBird UBEC to power everything, nothing coming from the BEC on the ESC

After watching numerous videos on inav's and board installs, I think it's about time the manufacturer's make them so that they are plug in friendly. Way too much messing around trying to figure out which wire goes where. It's not like they don't know what the intentions are..

Yes it wouldn't be too hard to offer a plug and play setup for a specific plane. But this all stated Open Source where anarchy rules
