For those using Blender 4.1, there's a couple of changes: 1. "Rotate Euler" node is now the "Rotate Rotation" node. Shift+A > Utilities > Rotation > "Rotate Rotation". 2. Random Value is found under Shift+A > Utilities > Random Value The final node setup for Blender 4.1 users: i.imgur.com/RzGyzGv.png And separately, if you've got sprinkle issues: 1. Make sure you add loop cuts! It won't bend if there's no geometry to support it. 2. Make sure to apply scale (Select all, Ctrl+A, Scale) or it will be the wrong size on the donut.

I just spent about an hour trying to work out why my "Simple Deform" modifier bend looked completely different to the one in the video. (The 'bend' was much shallower, and the top and bottom vertices were very stretched out.) It turned out that I needed to 'Apply Scale' to the cylinder object -- I imagine it was a result of how it was created and then scaled to a new size? Either way, selecting the object in Object Mode, hitting "Ctrl-A" and then selecting "Scale" seemed to work. Once I'd done that, I applied 'Simple Deform' and it looked exactly like the one in the video. Just dropping this here for anyone who might run into the same issue! Hugely enjoying these tutorials.

For anyone wondering, 17:08, there is no "Rotate Euler" for the newest 4.1 update. I had to manually search (Edit > Menu Search) "Rotate Rotation." It's the same thing, then you can continue on to Random Value. Also, an extra tip in case anyone else is having trouble. Some of my sprinkles were floating above my donut (very subtle but noticeable), and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why. People kept saying you have to "Set Origin > Origin to Geometry." I kept doing it over and over again, and nothing happened. The answer to this is YES, you do have to right click and "Set Origin > Origin to Geometry" but on all four of your little sprinkles you made earlier, and NOT by selecting the sprinkles on the donut itself. This immediately fixed the problem. Waisted a whole hour researching this!! I hope learning this gets better :(

For those, who have difficulties with curving edges at 5:20 and the edges are not rounded at all. Select the bottom and the top faces, hit ctrl + B and then, left click anywhere. After that, you'll have the bevel window in the left corner. You can apply all changes there. But what we need is ''Profile type’’. If it’s Custom, change it to Superellipse. Voilà, now you’ve got the rounded edges.

I tried to correct it but didn’t find a good way. In the end I flipped all sprinkles back to vertical, confirmed rotation with Ctrl+A, and deleted the last sprinkle. Then I redid the last sprinkle like he did in the video earlier, by duplicating the largest straight one, and this time immediately applied the modifier. If that doesn’t work for some reason, you can also make a new sprinkle from scratch (start with a cylinder, remember to elongate with G not S), bevel it and then do the modifier. I would still suggest rotating the other sprinkles back up for size comparison, but it’s not necessary since you’re not duplicating anything.

If you are having issues with the Simple Modifier: Notice that when he finishes the loop cut (Ctrl+R), only the new vertices are selected in Edit Mode. If in your case all the vertices of the cylinder are selected, the Simple Deformer would not work as in the video. Try selecting only the new vertices, and then try the modifier again. It worked for me!
@TheRealWinsletFan Жыл бұрын
Andrew, RE: CLIP START: The reason the clip plane is further out by default is because of how the maths works in the viewport transform. For maximum precision you want the near clip plane as far from the camera as possible (the distance of your far clip is also a factor, but less than the near). I used to have an excel spreadsheet I'd use to show the effect to our artists, but I haven't seen it in years. As a practical matter I don't think it matters quite as much with the float depth buffers we have now in most cases, but when depth buffers were just 32 bit ints Z artefacts were more common when the near clip was very small.

Professionally working with Creo has taught me the value of a clean model tree via groups in assemblies or in large plates with thousands of holes so I just unconciously started putting things in collections. I pathologically name all my KEs and groups so I can tell how I changed things just by looking at my model tree.

Edit: so I got help on the Blender Guru Discord and I had to apply the scale to my sprinkle. I don't know if I missed that step in the video or what, but it solved my issue.

You probably used the scale tool to elongate the sprinkles on Object Mode instead of doing it manually on Edit Mode like Blender Guru did, that's why there was not a "apply transformations" bit in this part 🤔 every change in rotation, scale and movement you make in Edit Mode is absolute, and the same changes in Object Mode are relative ( kinda like Smart Objects in Photoshop ^^)

2:10 The near and far clipping planes are used as an optimization for numerical accuracy. If you set near plane really close to camera and far clipping plane to hundreds of kilometers, you'll find that the accuracy of the objects you edit start to suffer because the floating point values are scaled to that whole range between near and far planes and if you're working in a small scene, you should optimize the range to match the scale you work with for optimal performance.

While working with Geometry Nodes, any single change i made was causing 5-10 seconds long periods in which editor would become totally unresponsive. If this happens to you too, delete the whole geometry node and start from scratch. That fixed the issue for me, no more performance issues. I just took a screenshot of all nodes before deleting them, then created the same exact one by looking at the screenshot and that worked for me.

If you're having the problem where you do set origin then origin to geometry and for some reason the origin isn't actually centered but instead offset for some reason, after setting the origin to geometry the operator panel appears (the window in the bottom left), instead of median center set it to bounds center instead and that should properly center the origin.

At 8:48 in Blender 4.20 in my case the origins didn't get to the center of the object. So what helped is: after Set Origin ---> Origin to Geomerty take a look at the left bottom of the display and find a small pop-up window named Set Origin. There, in the Center section choose Bounds Center. I did it separately for each object, didn't try it for all together. Peace :)

Just spent like 20 minutes trying to figure out why I couldn't get my bevel to bend like that. It turns out I had to apply the scale. Ctrl + A then click Scale. I think you quickly forget that people who are following this have like 2 hours of experience with the software. You're already skipping explanations of what you're doing and how you're doing it. For example, you do the bevel and then duplicate, but you never say you need to switch to object mode or that you need to select anything. If we just go by what you say, we just duplicated all those faces we beveled.

Hello Thank you for your great tutorials just to inform that - Rotate Euler in blender 4.3 is under Utilities > Rotation > Deprecated > Rotate Euler.
@NAK77988 ай бұрын
Awesome video, loving the tutorials so far! A bit of a math nerd here so I just wanted to quick comment on radians, especially cause angles are never really explained properly to people, and when understood radians make a whole lot of sense. What an angle is actually defined as is the ratio of the arclength between the two lines and the radius. So basically imagine two equal length lines connected together with a semicircle at the ends of the line (basically a pie slice), the angle they make is the length of the semicircle bit divided by the length of one of the lines. Now if you remember the formula for the length of the circumference of a circle it's 2*Pi*r, so what do you think the equivalent to 360 degrees would work out to be in radians? Well the length of the line is r, and the arclength is 2*Pi*r as we are going through the whole circle, hence the angle is defined to be 2*Pi*r/r which is just 2*Pi, exactly what we know to be a full circle in radians. If you read carefully you would also realize that we took a length divided by another length so technically angles are a unitless number, just a ratio. So what the heck are degrees? Well they're actually kinda dumb and arbitrary, they're just a rescaling of radians, people thought 360 sounded a lot easier to grasp than 2*pi so they just decided to convert stuff over to that. Mathematically degrees really don't make much sense, they just add a conversion step but the numbers themselves are easier for people to imagine.

Honestly after a while it's easier to just think in pies. 2pi = full circle, 2pi/2 = half, 2pi/3 = one third, 2pi/4 = quater, etc. I am at the point where I am annoyed when I see the degrees.
