For those who are having the problem where the subdivision modifier is stretching the texture out, you have to go to the modifier and in Advanced > UV Smooth select "Keep Corners". At least it worked for me !

Just a heads up to anyone running Blender 2.9, I was having issues with the Unwrapping in the UV Editor the first time I tried it. Instead of selecting Unwrap as Andrew suggests you need to select all, press U then click on Smart UV Project then click ok. By clicking Unwrap my vertices were an absolute mess every time, drove me nuts. The above method worked perfectly for me!
@rinathamidulin3781
@rinathamidulin3781 3 жыл бұрын
I'm running 2.92 and Unwrap works fine, Smart UV Project is and automatic unwrapping of the mesh. You don't need to mark any seams for that. In the Unwrap method you have to mark all the seams manually, maybe you missed something (like on edge on the face).

OMG!!!! I just spent the past 4 hours trying to figure out how my UV wrapping was stretching at the corners of the legs lolol Turns out a couple of my vertices were not aligned properly at the top of the chair leg. I had to mess around so many times until I realized the reason and then figure out how to fix it without redoing the entire leg lol I was so frustrated but I said I'm sticking with it because this is how I learn. My gosh I feel so happy and proud fixing it. I def understand modelling a lot better now that I had to figure out how to fix the issue.

Judging by his Instagram, he's only recently getting into sculpting(used for characters) There's others out there for characters, but Andrew has PLENTY for texturing and other technically made things. For anyone wondering, at 17:30 the way to actually get the preview of the crease creation and solve the problem is to, on the subdivision modifier, enable in the advanced options, "Use Creases" 😎 Also, someone in the comment mentioned that on the same subdivision advanced tab you should change the "UV Smooth" setting to "Keep Corners" and it does in fact look much better overall, reducing stretching of the texture much further 👍

A few things I had to fix to make the UV grid texture show up properly. First, before applying the Mirror modifier to the bar, I had to go back and delete a face where the other side of the bar was being mirrored (at the Z-axis). Second, APPLY SCALE (in Object Mode) before doing an UNWRAP (in Edit Mode).

If you're like me, and have the tutorial video sharing space on the screen with Blender... You may have some options at the top of the Blender scene crowded out, like the button for switching to Viewport Shading mode. In a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, I saw BlenderGuru do something to slide the buttons over, which clued me in to try things. First thing I tried was using the scroll wheel while the mouse cursor hovered over the buttons. Which worked. TL;DR If you're working in a tiny Blender window where some buttons are not visible due to the size of the window: Try putting the mouse cursor over where they should be, and spin the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Always apply the scale, if you don't it can mess up a lot of things. Not only textures but also modifiers like the bevel modifier or commands like inset. Best practice IMHO opinion is not to scale in object mode at all. If you scale in edit mode you avoid those problems.

Definitely finding these useful for a little side-project I’ve been tinkering with since finishing going through your donut tutorial. As a beginner, one thing I found with UV unwrapping is that sometimes it just comes down to eyeballing and seeing what feels right. I even found a couple or situations where having a seamless texture over a corner of an object looked somewhat off and adding a seam ended up seeming more natural. It’s as you say wit the “homework”, there are some times where just giving something a go yourself is a great way to learn. Your tutorials certain help give me the confidence to try a few things on my own. Even if your next tutorials tell me where I went wrong and how to correct it. Best way to learn, I find.

Thanks as always for an awesome tutorial! I have, however, completely given up on the idea of getting faces to match.. Is anyone else finding it absurdly difficult to just align the back with the legs? It works for Andrew, but that neat little operation he does at 11:15 escapes me utterly!! The process seems simple: set the origins of two objects you want to align to the same point, then position them with Vertex snap on and rotate.. but how do you do that if the point would be floating between two chair legs? Suggestions (about my problem =)?

@DavidAllen_0
@DavidAllen_0 4 жыл бұрын
Yup! Good tip! But the pattern is too large. To adjust this: 1. head into the Shader editor, click the Checker Image Texture and press Ctrl+T (node wrangler addon) 2. increase the X and Y scale in the Mapping node to something larger than 1. For me, I found 6 to be a sweet spot. This will cause distortion for now. 3. Remove the distortion by plugging the UV output (It's Generated by default) into the Texture Coordinate node into the Vector input of the Mapping node. :)
@ChristinaMcKay
@ChristinaMcKay 4 жыл бұрын
@@DavidAllen_0 there is an easier way. Use the free addon Texel Density Checker (a good idea anyway to get the same TD on all parts with just a few mouse clicks.) The TD checker comes with numerous checker maps in different sizes. You can just replace them with a mouseclick.
