@@AndrewRooneyDrums Always lurking. I watch every vid! I just keep commenting a variation of “hey, this person is really incredible at the drums” each time, so I try to mostly comment only if I really have something to offer. I actually downloaded this last year and ripped the audio. I listen on my mp3 player all the time. Along with most of the other Zildjian artists that year. I also contacted Zildjian and asked where these were recorded and if I could get tickets. As I remember they said it was all done in a weekend I think during NAMM. not including rehearsals. Ghost Note is also a real band and they have shows in the NY area.

I came across Sarah Thawer just a couple of weeks ago and let her go by the wayside. Why? Well, she's clearly got chops. She has rhythm, and she has energy. But she also seems to be trying to impress by overplaying, and it just rubs me up completely the wrong way! I like musicians who hold back, and who let the air and spaces speak as much as possible. Classic example would be Ash Soan's performance in the Zildjian Live series - SERIOUS HEAD F*CK STUFF!! And I agree - apart from the Ash Soan video (not sure why) but the micing, mixing and overall audio production are oustanding.

Oh. I could play the drums behind Ghost-Note. They are so beat'y that they can give seizures to the audience being backed by me tapping on a pillow, as half the members are on rotation with Snarky Puppy, doing sessions in other constellations (it is impossible to keep up unless one quit the day job). And here is this lady that I ignorantly had not even heard about. I can tell you who told me that girls can drum. I was around 15, I guess, and this dude called Prince shouted at me: "Ladies and Gentlemen - Sheila E." None of my upbringing had really informed me that girls could do percussion in rock (whatever Prince is?). In a sense, I knew that the bassist on Beatles could play the drums pretty good before I really got that girls could do it at all. I tip my hat to Prince, since while enjoying girls he never slacked on musical competence as a cheap pick-up line or trick. And here I am 35 years later, watching all this awesomeness happening at the absolute peak of human abilities. It is bloody fantastic. Not because it is a woman, but because it obviously can be. At my age I love a floor being level. And since I grew up as a "hippie-social democrat" in Scandinavia it is great to not need to hear the term "pretty good - for a girl" any longer. It is a nice reminder that opposite to popular argument - things DO change (ever so slowly). And as a function of that, I get twice the goodies. Getting ALL the talent instead of just half, based on the criteria that one can not drum (or do something) unless one has experienced the experience of getting a testie caught in a zipper or whatever. At the other end of the scale, we have Danny Carrey who is picking apart the myth that one loose the dexterity/power sum too much after the age of 45. To MCU fans, Thor and Loki are not really real, they are the consequence of some old pre-Vikings being a bit carefree with reality. Just like the dudes in the eastern parts of the Mediterainaian and beyond, making stuff up. Girls can not be priests. Girls must wear stuff. Girls may not vote. Or own bank accounts (not that long ago even in the most progressive corners of our planet) Well - at least we have figured out that they can play the drums by now. It is only 35 years since I discovered that women could punish a drum set in a stadium setting. We are slowly collectively learning. Competence is a way too rare thing to tarnish with colours or gender or such subsequent irrelevant things. I have no idea why I ended up with this long rant. I think I meant to compliment you for sprawling your videos out wide (while focused) instead of becoming a "Peart-shrine" (he deserves all the shrines). I think I meant to compliment you for going wide on genres - getting me involved in genres I surprisingly do not love much (like "dark" metal that I should love as a Norwegian). I am not even a drummer, though I can resolve the odd odd meter on my thighs. Your appreciation for the "musicality" and the talent it is played with is awesome. Thank you for that. Sarah Thawer - she does not even have a Wikipedia page. People who got kicked out early from some "reality show" based on f-ing your ex-partner/stranger 2 decades ago on TV have Wikipedia pages by now. Priorities in this world are weird (while moving forward, partly through your channel. Competence matters).
