A few things that are unbelievably impressive about Yoyoka: * her taste in music is mature * she is brave as hell, taking on the work of world-class drummers * it feels like every song she does is one take, the first take * her power and stamina are astonishing * she is constantly and quickly improving * she finishes so cleanly, no hesitation, right into the drumstick wave * Yoyoka has a wonderful memory, she knows all the hits and changes - she is in control and knows exactly what she is doing as a drummer

Ginger Baker was a really great and inventive drummer in his Cream , Blind Faith and his fusion group Ginger Baker's Air Force. He definitely influenced many drummers that started out in the early 70'ies and onward. His more "simple"-sounding drum parts are very effective as he plays the rhythms (like the verse in this song) as if he was playing a melody. Regarding Yoyoka (what hasn't been said already?)... The part at 5:20 and 6:00 is just... G.O.A.T. She makes it look sooo easy (which for her it really is) do a.. uhm.. kick triplets-tom-snare fill? Those kickdrum triplets in that short little part under the tom+snare hits are just amazing. I have to rewind certain parts just to watch what she was doing since it went by so fast and I couldn't figure out what she did from just hearing it once. Then she adds those dynamic 16th note ~half-strength hits right before a full hit on the tom for instance and she doesn't move her arm, it's just a drumhead bounce with the second hit being harder. Simple but very effective and makes such a difference.

@iFoneVids3 жыл бұрын
Clean, tight, timing, authoritative, dynamics, professional, technique, control, execution and impressive. More other superlatives could be said but that’s just typical Yoyoka and she’s still improving. She’s always in the pocket and if not she knows how to get back to it seamlessly. With this cover like in most cases, she always put her own spin to it and it makes the piece much more interesting (like the drum bass action). She elevates it i.e. ‘Steam’ cover. Btw, her left foot/action is a habit of hers. I know someone said that Ginger does it too but Yoyoka does it all the time. Her left foot is always on the left pedal. She’s got great fundamentals. Not sure if it was taught to her but I won’t be surprise if it was just her innate sense of musicality. Like she knows how things should be done properly. I’ve seen her 6 yr old live gig with a live band, her hi hat technique is already at a high level. One thing I can add on that specific video was her total focus. That can’t be taught much less to a 6 yr old. I don’t know if you accept non-patreon or non-PayPal requests but I would recommend you to see her cover of Char’s ‘Smokey’. I think she’s 7 or 8 yrs old. It’s a SMH moment. Thanks Andrew for the reaction. 👍🥁🤘🏼

One of the things that sets Yoyoka apart is her attention to detail. Those big cymbals on the downbeat with the toms just sound so Ginger Baker-ish. Whatever band she's covering, it seems as though she could just fill in for the entire gig if the drummer didn't show.

My hypothesis, based partly on watching this channel's analysis of Yoyoka (because what do I know? I'm not a drummer) is that starting out at a very early age, she HAD to hit the drums as hard as she could to get the necessary sound. That becoming a habit then, she kept it up, gaining more control as she grew older, although she seems to have had a lot of control early on.

Classic rock doesn’t get any more classic than Sunshine of Your Love; if you go back and watch an early Cream video of this song, Ginger Baker’s playing is powerful, but not particularly complex, as was the case with many early rock songs. As she has gotten older, Yoyoka has started to add some of her own embellishments to her covers, which in this case improves on the original in my opinion. 👍😎

She turns into a volcano of groove at those points. And actually as I rewatch more of her older covers I can see it in others songs, yes Steam, Uptown Funk, even her RATM covers. I've watched the original and no disrespect to the great Ginger Baker but I like Yoyoka's drumming better. The change you referred to (I didn't take that as a negative comment) in the beginning is what her fans call the "Yoyoka Effect". She said she listens to and learns the original first, as played, then makes changes that she "feels" make the song better. In all fairness, most great drummers do that to their own songs as you know. She was advising popular local bands very early. According to one band member, who said Yoyoka (at age 6), was watching them rehearse in the studio, and said "I think it would be better if you played it this way". They tried it and said "You're right!". The girl just "Has It".

You keep saying, “Yuuyoka.” Yoyoka has an amazing right foot. Just like Bonzo, she doesn’t need a double bass.

Yup! Killer right foot. Might be my accent...? lol

Another prodigy drummer. . . watch Avery Drummer Molek at 6 years old live on stage with Brad Paisley. The kid plays the Van Halen song, "Hot for Teacher" flawlessly! That song is challenging for even the most talented drummers and this little 6 year old smashes it! He's played on stage at just 5 years old with ACDC, KISS and other musicians. Any kid who is playing Tom Sawyer at the age of 7, deserves a shout out! Like Yoyoka, Avery is an amazing drummer as well.

I'm thinking that it's time to retire the word KID in relation to yoyoka. she transcended that moniker years ago imo.

I'm not a musician, so asking this question from a place of ignorance - Andrew, do you regard Yoyoka's drumming as "astonishing " because it is coming from a child of 11, or would it still be astonishing if it came from an adult with, say, 10 years' experience? With thanks if you have time to share your thoughts on this.

Hi Kamal. Good question. I've taught hundreds of people and been gigging for a long time. She's just simply very good regardless of age. I would love to hear her live to hear the internal mix and volume. But basically a very high level player regardless of age.

I was made aware of her keyboard-playing 'big sister' yesterday! 😀 There's a video of Yoyoka drumming the same song, too! 🙂 kzbin.info/www/bejne/aonWiqh-l72Ni80
