She may just be my fave female drummer. She's so in tune with every instrument it's ridiculous. I actually have a couple of her tunes in my iPod. LOVE this lady.

Hi everyone, I'm a drummer, I'm 40 and I started playing drums at the age of 14. Today I keep with me the passion for every element that produces a sound, and that is musical, in the world of music production. Anika is simply phenomenal, her approach seems seemingly fluid, but she knows how to be effective and fully musical at the same time, in addition to full control of every part of the songs, even in odd metrics, of the movement and in full respect of the dynamics. Personally, I fully share and approve of this musical mentality, moreover I will never stop reiterating that study is important to grow, just as comparison is important to understand better. Study, Play Something, Create and Stay Splash!

long ago i felt in love with the guitar. i guess for an amateur i’ m quite good. then i bought a roland e-drums. since then i always asked myself, why didn’t i started it a hundred years ago. drumming is so much fun. but anika is of an other planet. she knows exactly the partiture, great. so my tears would longly be there after the parture of jb when i see her with him.

It is soooo nice to listen to and watch musicians who actually know what music is all about. Most of today's music is developed around hip-hop and generic night club atmosphere. It is heartless and without soul. Honestly, it takes very little talent because most of it is just manipulating electronics. Anika Nilles and Nevell remind me of the Prog/Rock band, Genesis; which I renamed the genre as, "Precision Rock". Magic happens, when VERY talented musicians get together and pour their heart and soul into their music. Tragically, we see less and less of this as we are overcome by a society who demands instant gratification without the hard work that goes into producing musical compositions like this. I hope we can see more of these videos, as I prefer to fully immerse myself into the music I listen to. Bravo!

Everything about this is amazing...the song, the performances, the production. To me what makes a session like this is the ability of musicians to musically communicate to each other in that indescribable and yet magical way

Jeff Porcaro is on my top 10 for sure and always will be even though it's constantly changing and has no clear hierarchy. Also the half time shuffle is probably my favorite groove and always a part of my warm up. Playing the half time shuffle in odd time signatures is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Nice one! BTW, i'm 100% sure the idea for the "Africa" hommage came right from Anika. She mentioned that listening to "Rosanna" left a big impression on her when she was young, the shuffle with a lot of ghost notes on the snare, not unlike her own playing style now. By the way, the Rosanna groove seems to be loosely based on "Home at last" by Steely Dan (1977), played by Bernard Purdie. But i guess with enough knowledge, you could trace anything back to something that came before it, hehe... anyway, i love her playing style, her use of ghost notes is unreal, so she in turn becomes an inspiration to drummers like me!

Its all in the wrists and hands. Anika plays like a drummer, not a “female drummer”. When you see most female drummers, there is a noticeable technique difference in the hands. But her and Senri just play, their limbs move so fluid and dont look stiff at the elbow and wrist. Thats why people just look at her like a drummer. She doesnt have to be marketed as a “female drummer”.
