@@AndrewRooneyDrums One thing I thought I should mention, that I have learned studying with her is that she does not use traditional rudiments in her music, but practices every possible accent combination in each subdivision- even and odd- so she can be free to listen and improvise while playing. In a sense, she is continually making up her own "rudiments", so to speak. Does that make sense? Very organic...

Anika loves her cymbals dry as a desert, which is not really my style. But man oh man, if there's anyone in the world you can trust to extract every last bit of goodness from those dry Meinls, it's her. Also, I'd say that one of her other big trademarks is to play a fill, then do an extra big cymbal hit + kick (or two) on the sixteenth note (or eighth) - after - "1". She does it a lot in this song. Very non-traditional, even in this prog-pop genre where creativity is the name of the game, but it adds a certain propulsion that's cool as heck. I can't think of any drummer that was doing this to such good effect before her.

It took men a long time to be willing to accept and celebrate women in the music industry for their skills.
