The guy who got slapped was Shemp Howard who was one of The Three Stooges, so getting slapped was common for him. Shemp along with his brother Moe and Larry Fine was a part of the original 3 Stooges dating back to the 1920's. After a few years, Shemp was replaced by a third Howard brother, Curley. When Curley suffered an incapacitating stroke in 1946, Shemp returned to the trio until he died of a heart attack in 1955.

My mom graduated in 1945 near Charleston, South Carolina. She was voted the best looking in her class. She loved the Andrew Sisters, Benny Goodman and Glen Miller. She said she was a good dancer doing the Charleston and the Jitterbug. She always claimed that we didn't know how to dance or knew good music. Hell, maybe she was right!!

This was a big hit for them hitting a particular chord with the public with so many couples separated by the war. It's hard now to comprehend how enormously popular and successful they were in their heyday. They had 113 songs that charted on Billboard with 46 making it into the top 10. That's more than either Elvis Presley or The Beatles ever managed.

"Patty, the lead singer of the group, was 7 when the trio was formed, and 12 when they won first prize at a talent contest at the local Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, where LaVerne played piano accompaniment for the silent film showings in exchange for dancing lessons for her and her sisters. Following the collapse of their father's Minneapolis restaurant, the sisters went on the road to support the family. All three attended Franklin Junior High School and North High School, both in Minneapolis."

Great reaction Harry!! - Another well-known singer from the 1940s worth checking out is England's own Vera Lynn. She had a ton of hits that defined the war including: The White Cliffs of Dover, A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, and We'll Meet Again.

How can you not smile & feel good listening to this music? The Andrew Sisters were popular during the 30's-40's before & during World War II. Their style was known as swing & boogie-woogie. They had a lot of hits "Beer Barrel Polka", "Beat Me Daddy, Eight To The Bar", "Three Little Sisters", "A Hot Time In The Town Of Berlin", "Rum & Coca Cola" etc.
