Thank you, Andrew, for introducing Jeff to your channel and the countless other expatriates who have chosen to base themselves in Malaysia. I can only image how difficult it must be for foreigners to relocate themselves to Malaysia; the paperwork alone seems to be a barrier. Even yet, it's encouraging to know that many more foreigners are making the effort to relocate here, despite the difficulties in acclimating to the new surroundings, climate, people, and other unspoken elements. Penang is a fantastic option, but KL is also may be good for you because it has plenty of quiet areas and you can still enjoy privacy while you're in your own house. We Malaysians are happy to have kind individuals from all over the world living with us and are appreciative if they can integrate into our civilized society. Thus, stay and chat with the locals as there are enough of friendly people to make you feel at home even though there are still a lot of other expats here that you can count on.

Great interview Taylor. Interestingly I am in an opposite conundrum. I am Malaysian, from mainland state of Kedah about 2 hours from Penang Island. I started college in Penang before completing my degree in US and I have spent my entire 30-year working career in Dallas, TX and hope to retire in the next 5-6 years. I wasn't aware of how hard it is to apply for the MM2H program. All my siblings are still back home so I have decided that it may be a good idea to keep my Malaysian citizenship just in case I change my mind in the future. In the meantime, the annual vacation between the States and Johor Bahru via Singapore to visit family will continue. Who knows I might decide to visit Penang this December. I miss the food there.

Thanks, Andrew, for allowing Jeff, the retired judge from the US, in your video. It's a good introduction to how an expatriate lives and works here on MM2H status. Let's hope all the paperwork will be done on time before Jeff decides on other options in March 2024. Penang is more or less a permanent choice, a food haven, and a slower pace of life than KL. Furthermore, Penang is the most suitable retirement spot and is in the top 10 in the world regarding retiring here, according to the travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler. Well, let's hope that more American expats will choose Penang as their destination in their golden years.

Great video Andrew Your guest's point on property prices is very real. No increase in value in Penang for the last 8 years and if anything prices have gone down by around 20%. Another class of guest you may like to interview are the local service providers. Hourly maid providers springs to mind along with car sales and real estate. The role of building managers and sourcing trades people is another. Thanks again

Andy, something just came to mind that Jeff might find fun and you could assist with, that being: As Jeff likes to entertain and has a lovely home to do so with, perhaps you could help him arrange a casual social New Mexico style BBQ party for local Malaysians and Ex-pats to meet up (including perhaps locals in the legal profession) to network and expand social relationships . Years ago I thought a-local-ex-pat social group would be a needed asset for the community.

I didn't want to bring my cats into Malaysia until I secured a visa. Now that I've got the S-MM2H (after 18 months) I'm going to fly them out here in early March. I'm going to spend 3 weeks in February packing up the house in the US and making the final travel arrangements for the cats. Once I'm settled in maybe I'll be the one on the couch being interviewed? A problem of dogs in close contact of condos can be the incessant barking. We were in a condo in Canada with a neighbor's constant barking dog. Late at night. Something of a nightmare getting the Board to do something.

Great interview as usual Andrew.I We have been catching up on your old videos and there was one where you talked about your background and that explained a lot ,you seem to be quite comfortable around people and you were once a window dresser? wow...we also have been admiring your shirts...we didn't see people walking their dogs in the parks when we were wandering around Kuala Lumpur..?? maybe I'm wrong... Anyway,I told my mum and dad to watch your youtube channel, they spent most of their overseas holidays in Europe, maybe your youtube would expand their horizons...

Hi Andrew! Very much enjoying your videos on Malaysia. Your interviews with folks are informative and you ask the detailed questions that viewers appreciate and find helpful. One suggestion for a video: Considering your move to Malaysia several years ago, how easy (or difficult) would it be for someone in their 60s from N. America to move, solo, to Malaysia today? Two perspectives would be interesting: On a “try out” basis, such as renting, and a permanent basis, such as MM2H. Thank you-and more great, informative content from your channel!

Taylor, wonderful relaxed video with your friend & Kelly 🐾 😊. That was interesting about flights. What cities/ airlines (if you can say 🤫do you prefer) are shortest for you when you travel or friends visit you from 🇺🇸?

@@andrewtaylor4558 LOL ! I did catch the change from the awesome teal highlighted opening shirt to the more sedate interview shirt, but for the rest of the interview Judge Jeff's "Someone slashed my throat" hot mess of a modern art tropical shirt was a complete distraction. Angain, great interview and glad you included his 'puppy.'

Excellent exchange Andy, and from a former Penagite, much appreciation to Jeff for sharing his experience and insights. It would be interesting to get an update on how he's finding life there vs. SantaFe. I do hope Jeff is becoming antiquated with the locals. My first month or two in Penang many years ago, I felt a bit like an orphaned tourist, but once I developed a routine and started going to Batu Ferringhi for dinner or for a day at a resort, I made many friends with visitors from around the world who were intrigued to meet a local ex-pat (They were a bit less common back then) and even developed a few business opportunities. Back then there was a couple of Aussie ex-pat Pilots who had a flying club who had affordable Cessna 172 rentals, and from my bit of flying there I met some incredible locals including a local Judge, a businessman who introduced me to the Penang Turf Club, (A great place to meet interesting locals and ex-pats) and even Sultan Iskandar of Johor who flew his own airplane often from K.L. to Penang and Thailand. The lovely people knew and friendships that developed in Penang are indeed my most cherished as I expect Jeff will discover, as you have Andy. Thanks again, and best to everyone back in Malaysia and especially Penang. Btw, Andy might I pass-on what a veteran TV and Radio producer used to drill me about interviews? That being that when directing interviews, it's typically best for the interviewer and interviewee to maintain gaze at each other and look at the camera only when addressing the audience (Jeff seem to be a veteran interviewee), as it's a more natural for the those watching to feel that they are in the room. Directing focus and dialogue to the audience is great for bringing the audience in, and can make developing questions and editing easier. My late friend the expert interview director and interviewer had a real talent for blocking (setting-up) interview location angles and shots, and I wish he were still around, as he would have been delighted to share tips and inspirations with YouTubbers like you Andy make interviews more interesting and fun.
