Thank you, Andrew, for introducing Jeff to your channel and the countless other expatriates who have chosen to base themselves in Malaysia. I can only image how difficult it must be for foreigners to relocate themselves to Malaysia; the paperwork alone seems to be a barrier. Even yet, it's encouraging to know that many more foreigners are making the effort to relocate here, despite the difficulties in acclimating to the new surroundings, climate, people, and other unspoken elements. Penang is a fantastic option, but KL is also may be good for you because it has plenty of quiet areas and you can still enjoy privacy while you're in your own house. We Malaysians are happy to have kind individuals from all over the world living with us and are appreciative if they can integrate into our civilized society. Thus, stay and chat with the locals as there are enough of friendly people to make you feel at home even though there are still a lot of other expats here that you can count on.

Great interview Taylor. Interestingly I am in an opposite conundrum. I am Malaysian, from mainland state of Kedah about 2 hours from Penang Island. I started college in Penang before completing my degree in US and I have spent my entire 30-year working career in Dallas, TX and hope to retire in the next 5-6 years. I wasn't aware of how hard it is to apply for the MM2H program. All my siblings are still back home so I have decided that it may be a good idea to keep my Malaysian citizenship just in case I change my mind in the future. In the meantime, the annual vacation between the States and Johor Bahru via Singapore to visit family will continue. Who knows I might decide to visit Penang this December. I miss the food there.

Thanks, Andrew, for allowing Jeff, the retired judge from the US, in your video. It's a good introduction to how an expatriate lives and works here on MM2H status. Let's hope all the paperwork will be done on time before Jeff decides on other options in March 2024. Penang is more or less a permanent choice, a food haven, and a slower pace of life than KL. Furthermore, Penang is the most suitable retirement spot and is in the top 10 in the world regarding retiring here, according to the travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler. Well, let's hope that more American expats will choose Penang as their destination in their golden years.

Hi Andrew! Very much enjoying your videos on Malaysia. Your interviews with folks are informative and you ask the detailed questions that viewers appreciate and find helpful. One suggestion for a video: Considering your move to Malaysia several years ago, how easy (or difficult) would it be for someone in their 60s from N. America to move, solo, to Malaysia today? Two perspectives would be interesting: On a “try out” basis, such as renting, and a permanent basis, such as MM2H. Thank you-and more great, informative content from your channel!

I don't want to rain on your parade, but one of us is getting bad advice from our agent. My agent told me that Malaysia does not recognize retirement income, e.g. pension, annities, social security to qualify for the RM40K / month income for the MM2H visa. To qualify, I need a salary. Since I'm retired, I do not have a salary or enough investment income to qualify. If they accepted retirement income, I would easily qualify. Also, in my recent contact with my agent, she stated that all processing of MM2H are suspended. No applications are being processed. This may explain why you have not heard anything for 8 months. Thanks for the video. Good luck. Keep us informed. I'm in KL waiting for approval of my Thai 5 year Elite Gold Visa.

Yes, they are in the process of moving MM2H from the immigration department back to the tourism dept.
