Hi Andrew, as a devotee all my life of drawing, painting and developing my skills, I am so pleased to see you creating these videos to help all kinds of artists. I totally agree too, that drawing helps and informs your painting when creating composition, scale, tone, line and the rest. No matter how good your drawing, as long as you can use it sufficiently to get your ideas on paper prep for your paintings, it helps to create much better paintings. I have been an artist all my life, still work on commissions, teach and help people to gain more confidence and I have waxed lyrical about your KZbin sessions to encourage them to see you working. Thank you for sharing your amazing skills. You only have to look at all the comments in your postings to know this is a much welcomed service you give. Val Cansick

You've really made some great points here. I was just thinking yesterday about how life has gotten in the way of my artwork over the course of my career, and I fully agree that there comes a point when we just can't beat ourselves up about it when we just can't get to the easel; something I've tended to do. But I also agree that sometimes we have to force ourselves to do at least a little something to get our artistic motor going and keep our skills fresh. I've really been taking a new, determined run at it again lately, so I'm thankful we have artists such as yourself out there leading and encouraging us, and running the race with us! Thank you for all your time and hard work on these videos!

I think the idea of the first drawing is checking a box that I think a lot of artist both experienced and new miss when they create. The history behind the brewery and its name lends to the idea of storytelling in art, be it painting or drawing. A good story embedded into an equally excellent piece of art, in my mind, takes a piece of art to a higher level.

Andrew, yours is the most informative and inspiring art site that I know of. I'm a 'Senior' who began years (I should say decades) ago then life got in the way. Fifty plus years later got back to my easel through my daughters art class gift and once again I'm hooked. Whenever I have a problem or need inspiration I dial up one of your videos, especially Sketchendeavour. Thank you.

A beautiful drawing, Andrew. One of the things that struck me was how you handled the pool of water in the foreground. Now, it's only a very few strokes that you laid down to describe the rocks below the surface of the water, but you did so in a way that captured a real sense of depth and clarity of the water. There is even that all-important element of light refraction, which goes so far in selling the illusion of light passing through water and striking objects below the surface. Your time devoted to drawing is paying off in spades, mate. Also, I know these videos require a ton of work to put together, so hats off for taking the time to put a nice polish on ALL of your videos and making them such high quality in every way. Well done and thoroughly appreciated.

you should try drawing without the white pencil. in order to improve at a faster rate you should try using the lightest value ( your paper) this will allow you to see the values at a much higher level creating heat of the sun from white paper using shadows and cooling values even in lighter areas
