Hi Andrew, I am an American amateur painter, age 79. I love your teaching lessons and your skill is excellent in terms of color and the way you blend them. I am learning so much, and inspired to start painting again. I will order your videos as well and order the oil paints and brand you suggest, it seems to flow so well. I watch your videos every day. Again, thank you for helping and inspiring me.

I love this painting SO MUCH. I have a self portrait due in my beginning painting class and I watched this video over and over again to try to emulate the process. I'm working with acrylics so.... it was a struggle. But I am so inspired by your love of capturing people as if you were in the middle of conversation with them. It reminds me of how Bernini wanted to convey people in his sculptures. Thank you for the inspiration!
@AndrewTischlerArt8 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the comment. I appreciate the feedback. It may be difficult to emulate the process with acrylics, I would take the plunge into oil. Obviously, you have great knowledge, of the process, but from someone who struggles daily with portraiture, you were touched by God. You have such command of light and your paintings seem to have a quality of almost inner realism, if that makes sense, like you capture their soul. I admire your work, I hope you never stop, although there are moments when its not there, I know, I feel that fire within you.

how do you know when a painting is 'done'. Do you ever have the urge to just keep adding?
@AndrewTischlerArt8 жыл бұрын
There are several ways to know. But first it's important to begin with the end in mind. You have to have a goal. I know where the finish line s from the outset. Another way is to realise the point where your brushstrokes have little effectiveness. If you keep adding marks that add nothing to the picture, better stop! Or another way is to have the client knocking on your door, prying the painting from your hands.

Actually this made me laugh. Thanks! XD haha! Watch out for my ESSENTIAL TECHNIQUES video.
@StaticCloud18 жыл бұрын
Please don't be negative about my comment. I'm simply trying to learn. I am in the middle of a Fine Art Degree, I have no formal training, they invited me to do the degree on the strength of my work completed during two short water colour classes I attended. with regards to working with oil paints, I have done a few day classes on landscapes but portraiture is something else entirely. How do I blend the paint? Dry brush? What size? when using a small brush, do I dilute the oil paint with linseed to make it more pliable? do I blend with a smaller brush on smaller area? Dry or with linseed? I'm simply asking for a literal step by step proper tutorial without omitting things you may see as being obvious. A tutorial for a beginner.
@AndrewTischlerArt8 жыл бұрын
Charlotte, I am not being negative. Chill. Go back and read your original comment. How did you want me to receive your comment? Regardless, I'll do my best to answer you. Having gone through a Fine Art degree myself, I hear where you are coming from. They will probably not teach you the essential techniques. Now, whilst I try to make a show about painting, these episodes are meant to be lighter and a little more entertaining. I am making full length tutorials which will be available for sale through my website. If you like me work and want to learn how I do it, then I break down the essential techniques in these demonstrations. We have literally just started, so bear with us, more episodes are coming out soon as well as DVD's. I am positive you will find something beneficial in the content we provide here, or on our website. (links are in the description.)
@StaticCloud18 жыл бұрын
I appreciate you taking the time to discuss this with me. It's very kind of you. I will happily pay for a tutorial as long as it includes every detail, as I said, as if you were teaching an individual who has never before picked up a brush or knew what linseed oil was. I've watched so many youtube "tutorials" on how to paint a portrait in oil, and the ones that are a literal step by step process are not in English unfortunately. You miss the important details like how to load a brush correctly, what size brush to use, what type of brush, how to mix the paint with linseed to allow it to flow, there's just so much to learn. You certainly have the best control over this particular medium than any other artist I've come across. Your skill is both beautiful and overwhelming. I don't know if you ever went through the stage of hating yourself whilst learning to paint, but I'm at that stage now. Everything I do is terrible. It's incredibly frustrating and does knock the wind out of you, I must say. Though I am persevering.
