Your higher amp draw (than the specs list) is because you are using a slow fly prop and not a regular "E" prop. The slow fly props have a wider blade and push more air, thus taking more energy to run it. I have the same motor. 8x4E draws 9.9 amps on 3s and rpm is 10,500. 8x6E draws 12.5 amps on 3s and turns 10,300. hope this helps.

Dear Sir, You tested the thrust of the motor horizontally. Would thrust be the same when we use it for vertical flying? An Rc plane engine states that it has static thrust of 23.5kg at 1800 meters. Does that mean straight upward from ground? The question what I'm trying to ask is: if the thrust is calculated horizontally ( you did in this video), would it be same straight up vertically?

Hi Andrew, your thrust vector is perpendicular with your load cell, I think it will introduce additional error in your measurement?

I am using this motor on my Hexacopter, and also quadcopter, and I really like this motor because of the thrust. The only thing I don't like about it, is that the bearings are too fragile, they start to make noise (when you spin the motor by hand) from a small crash. I am running my hexa and quad with bad (noizy) bearings, and it flies fine.... so far :) I am using Rctimer 30A OPTO with SimonK pre-flashed ESC, (the ESC is cold after flying), and 4S battery, my quad hovers at 50% throttle (no camera, no FPV), and my hexacopter hovers at about 60% throttle, with gimbal, gopro, and FPV gear)

Thanks for the video Andrew W. I am just getting into the field of custom build my own quadcopters. Right now I am working on a Q450 Ghost Edition that I got from HobbyKing. I am using an APM 2.8 Flight Controller with GPS/Telemetry, I also purchase some high crab legs, also purchased on HobbyKing. I purchased my first Radio transmitter from Banggood.com the FlySky FS-i6S. I got my battery from a local hobby store the Predator 11.1v 3300mAh 35C, which I believe is a 3 cell? But in reference to your video, I learn to stay away from 10x4.5 and to go with 10X5, i heard that 4.5 can snap? Any what material of props should I stay away? Are Nylon props OK to uses? I haven't decided which motor KV I will need till I get my rig weighed, also what does the maker NTM stand for and whats their web address, so that I can visit their site and view all their motors and specs.

It looks like you're not using a pusher prop so that may be the results are skewed but good work anyways. I'm looking at getting these motors to use in the new dart400. Any concerns on the bearings? Thanks for the review

Is there such thing as a push prop? I realise for IC engines you need to buy a specific prop to use as a pusher because you can't reverse engine direction. but for electric motors, you just put the prop on and if it's turning the wrong way you reverse the motor.... I'm pretty sure for electric there isn't really such thing as a pusher prop.
@travispratt6327
@travispratt6327 8 жыл бұрын
+Chris Flory Correct, there's only clockwise and counterclockwise and the only reason to change them would be the type of prop adapter you have so it tightens and doesn't loosen. A "pusher prop" just turns the other way because you couldn't reverse the direction of gas motors like electrics.

I know this is a very old comment, but just in case. The higher the KV the higher the RPM, but it also means less torque. If you plan on having this motor push out as much speed as you can then go for a higher KV.

1000 Kv. Ok. 1000Kv is Ok 9x4,5 and maybe 10x3.8, 10x4.7. 1400Kv is fore 8x4, 8x4.5 not RS, SF propeller. 2200K is for APCe 6x4.

This is probably a stupid question but is this a DC-motor or an AC-motor?
@AndrewWorkshop
@AndrewWorkshop 10 жыл бұрын
That's not a stupid question at all, as I have really no idea lol. The power source is DC but the ESC does something to the power source to control the motor as it has 3 wires, not sure if the power at that point is DC or AC. That's a question for an electrical engineer.
@danielthiele8074
@danielthiele8074 10 жыл бұрын
Hey, not a stupid questions of course ;) The ESC is a "converter" which takes the DC Voltage of the battery and "produces" a three phase AC voltage using PWM. RPM is controlled by the frequency of the resulting AC voltage (not the frequency of the pwm!!) Max amplitude of the AC Voltage is just a bit less than the DC voltage, I hope this helps ;)

NTM is BLDC motor which is DC motor which require permanent magnet in their rotor. AC motor doesn't require any PM.

@iosxbetax
@iosxbetax 9 жыл бұрын
+topher Actually both. They honestly don´t like 4S at all especially when they´re being used in airplanes since you tend to go full throttle more often. I´d definitely recommend to use smaller props on 4S (8x4 should be good). 3S works quite nicely on multirotors, I used them on Tri- and Quadcopters with Gemfan 10x4.5 props. And just so you know, they will get quite hot anyways, even when you don´t push them that hard. I wouldn´t worry too about that, though :)

+iOS Beta good to hear thank you so much!!! I've been doing some hover tests and they're warm. AUW I'm at 1kg with 2 of these in the front I need to save some money to buy my 3rd one lol I'm using a cheapo sunnysky 800kv on the back, it can't keep up when I get to 70% throttle. but this tricopter will be a monster once I get that installed.

Your propeller looks like a GWS Rs8x4.3 and according to the manufacturer its rpm limit is 10500. So your motor will surely surpass them with only 3slipo. The safest thing is that this motor these rpm with this propeller at 3 and 4slipo. GWS recommends never using it above these RPM. If they don't have an RPM meter, you may find that you overreached when you hit 130Watts or 759g of thrust. in your case at 152 watts you are turning at about 10,785 rpm with an efficiency of 65.6% With 4slipo and the same propeller it's crazy. I hope they wear a protective mask. 12,965 rpm (2,465 more than those recommended by the manufacturer) with a power usage of 294 watts for an efficiency of only 60.9%. This means that your motor is working on the 179 watt propeller. and 115 watts are being lost in heat in a motor that barely and should dissipate about 60 watts. My recommendation is that you try HD or APCe type propellers and in 3slipo motors that you never use RS, SF type propellers. when they have Kv above 920 unless you use FC propellers

@@slapjack66 all I can say is I have 2212 unbrand 1000-930kv on 44" x40" cub 45A 3s 30C 10x5. ..AUW 850-875 grams. It had decent power . Not unlimted vertical..but it can do decent loop. 7-8 mins flight time. It's okay ..better than a basic trainer type of flying. It'll get 900-1100 grams depends depends who's testing it. Im thinking Im right around 950. the 44"x40 cub is a bigger model..but has better wing loading I need to build 38-40"..to reduce wieght and drag to get it fly with a little bit more punch The 1200KV on 8x4 on 3s is UNDER PROP...on 4S maybe.... Maybe a 9x5 or 9x6...depends on the brand. The thrust may vari due to LIpO discharge C rating and esc setting have 2208 1400kv on 9x5 (orange) it's perfect for the motors on 30a 3s ( same 2200mah) II'll also use 8x4 . The 9x5 dose better it's on a smaller 30" 450 grams AUW. it might be pulling 650 grams . It flies like a little beast with plenty of power/and punch. It's using the same type of servo (4 -ea) The 30a might wieght 2 grams less.lol I get 10 mins becuase it's a smaller motor. I actully like this little model more...becuase it dosnt get tose around due to heavy wing loadingcuts through the wind better. 10 mins..flight is about right for flying an R/C plane....5-6 mins flight time....SUCKs..becuase you'll spend 2-3 mins just trying land it.cross wind..coming in too hot...so you'll have to go around or make a couple passes over...so you can at least try to line it up. Notice most DYI YT modelers cant land worth a ffffkkk or they just fly around in circles. Not even basic split S or emuman landing patterns
