The weight is per yard like any other fabric.

Not sure why but can't reply to you Etienne directly. But yeah I think you could, I think people use carbon fiber for parts of the rail to make them more rigid. My only concern is carbon fiber is typically dark so you need to make sure to keep it out of the sun when it's not in the water or you might have issues with the trapped gas in the foam expanding. Carbon fiber sure would make a light board tho.

Thanks! Did you use a wood stringer in your xps board? If so how did you keep it from delam?

Sorry dude for blowing up your videos with questions. So I built my board with a wood stronger like yours using xps foam. Did you build your xps with a wood stringer? If so how did you keep it from delam? Did you finish sand with 20 grit? Any help would be awesome.

Aloha from Greece Andew! I ve been shaping and glassing around 4 years, and your videos were the first i watch and really help me,and i d like to thank you a lot! I notice few tips in my progress i want to share. I glassed a surfboard with 1 layer to the bottom with 6 oz as i followed the main method that most shapers do.I didnt find 4 0z,so i did it with 6 oz. The result was a sensitive and soft bottom! when i press my fingers to the bottom they almost get in to the foam :)))hahah and i didnt put a lot force! I notice that surfboards made from polyester resin glassed with the same way with one layer, are more stiff and hard, and you can feel it when you press your finger to the bottom area. The boards made from polyester are more hard than a epoxy. This is make sense cause its known poluester is heavier and harder. Personally i like a light surfboard but without sacrifice durability.I hate when my fingers sink on the board! medium glassing is well accept of course,but, I tried several attempts and several oz of fibres on the bottom in epoxy board as i lay one fibre to the bottom and i figure out that the only way to build a light and strong EPOXY board with one fibre layer to the bottom is 10oz! I dont have 8 oz to test,but whatever single fibre under 8 oz glassed with epoxy was so soft in a baaad way! I dont know if there is another secret for glassing an epoxy surf board with just only one fibre to the bottom,but when i see occasionaly hard and stiff epoxy bottom of an epoxy board that glassed with only one 4 ,or 6 oz fibres im thinking... hmmmm there is something i dont know?? Do they glass the foam with epoxy ,and then, when its dry they glass with fibres?? To build a board that the bottom will be hard as a poly board its unbelievable to do this only with one layer of 4 or 6 oz. Cause im sorry but i cant believe that only 1 layer like 6 oz, or even 8 is enouff to avoid softbottom! I really would love to glass with thin fibres cause there are work sooo nice and turn more easy down the rails as glassing, instead of heavy fat one,Thank you for your time, i wish health,goodvibes,and nice swell tides!

Thanks for the response man! I had asked previously about painting xps. What do you think if I painted it white and then poked holes in the board for the epoxy to grab hold of or do you think tinting it white would be best?
@AndrewWorkshop
@AndrewWorkshop 9 жыл бұрын
+Zach Wenrich I think tinting it white may work but I have never tried, it could come out kinda milky, do a test piece first. Painting the blank would be fine or after the hotcoat with some sanding. As for poking holes, I doubt you would need to do that.

Hey man, probably a dumb question but is a hot coat actually heated before application or is it just a figure of speech?

I'm 6,3 in hight And wight 205. So 8ft board as a fish board. That would make it 6oz. followed by 4oz for stability right?.

Hey dude! So my glassing schedule is 2 - 6oz layers of fiberglass on top and bottom. Can I do both layers at one time with 6 oz on top of 6oz kind of like you did with your deck using 4oz and 6oz? Any input would be appreciated.

+Zach Wenrich Yup you can. Shouldn't be any issues. I've done 6+6, just make sure you mix enough resin.
