I have been a KZbin fanatic for years now, and literally never brought myself to make a comment. I happen to have - thanks to KZbin's great content algorithms - been lead into board gaming from video gaming, and simply have to stop and remark on what amazing artistry Tim is brining to these videos. For this video, I used Musicbed! The rulebook actually is my biggest source of inspiration for the rulebooks! Most of my cinematics actually start from how you'd set up a game, how you would take an actual turn, and what the final gameplay turn would look like; haha this might change the way you watch my videos going forward! Went all the way "to the edge"! Great video! 🚀🚀🚀 This is like Dwellings of Eldervale on steroids. I can definitely see how it elevates and developed on so many mechanisms but this really is a whole distinct and beautiful game. One question, can you go over the icons in the advancement tracks? And can you explain again what range does? I think you mentioned it in one of your other videos. If it's your turn, "range" allows you to pull another ship to you from the range's numerical value of planets away from your ship? Like a tractor beam? But range also allows Raiders to "rush" (to use a word from Eldervale) in to the planet you are on. Thanks!

One day I was like...wanna try this game (dwellings of eld), all you do is just one action and the monsters look cool? They bought in and secretly didn't realize I was layering the teach the entire time because then they had to figure out what happens when they go to different places and ever since then, their patience grew and can't stop playing heavy games now 😂 sorry for the rant-but thought it'd be fun to share since I relate!

I essentially have two groups. One of them I've painstakingly taught some more difficult games but since they're all strewn about getting them altogether is a rarity. The other group are closer to me but I haven't tried to convert yet. Also doesn't help that we're 6 people and the games I want to play mostly go up to 5 people. I started them off with Sheriff of Nottingham but my grand plan is to turn them onto Root lol. Do you know of any good 6 player games that are higher on the difficulty scale?

I can totally see that, but I did set up for a 5 player game with everything possible in the game (for the current version I have); but it's really not that bad on the table because ultimately, we're really looking at the module cards or Andromeda. They also have updates on inserts and player modules which will keep things way more organized/condensed than how you saw here in this prototype!

in my current iteration of the rulebook, it's player's choice of cutoff! you decide at the beginning of the game whether you want to play short/medium/long

When you score based on leaders surrounding your development, that's a staple among all developments (cities, factories, etc.), but they are "variable" in the sense that each development will give you a different amount of points depending on how far you are on that specific progress track

Yes! The map will expand at the same time as events unfold (new tiles + new moons (like the resource tokens in dwellings) From what I’ve played with so far, I don’t think you can lose the buildings you make! Although I do think that’d be a funny (maybe too powerful as well) power for one of the raiders 😂

My biggest concern besides price, is I hope the box size doesn’t get too large. Too many games are taking up an enormous footprint and it’s a little intimidating to see a massive box on the shelf or in the closet because it’s too much for a Kallax.

Yeah I struggle with self-control if there’s neat exclusives or a larger box with upgraded tokens. I don’t necessarily need minis, but with this game the ships and connecting components certainly make sense. Hopefully if there is a larger box it’s like the Endless Winter big box which is a good size for a larger option.

6:52 So we CAN initiate a battle if we are within range of the enemy, or are we REQUIRED to go into battle in that case? Because I remember that in Dwellings, if you were adjacent to a monster, the monster automatically rushes in and so being adjacent to a monster TRIGGERS a battle. Also, what if you are NOT within range of an enemy?

Oh very good question! We are required to go into battle with a RAIDER because there is a raider attack phase as part of our turns, but we MAY initiate a battle with enemy players if we are within range. If you are not within range of an enemy, there is no battle

Really a question i've been asking myself to begin with! It is certainly a huge contender and I can't even imagine my collection not having both hahah. AE fills in a large part of the gap that makes dwellings fun, but there are so many unique aspects of it that distinguishes AE from dwellings. If you can't get your hands on dwellings, AE will be The One. I'm working on a comparisons video though so maybe that'll help you decide!

Alliance bases = Ruins Credits = Gold Raiders = Monsters Moons = Resource Tokens Fighter Ships = Warriors Heavy Cruisers = Dragons Science Vessels = Wizards (their powers are quite different here because heavy cruisers gain the wizard mobility, science vessels can explore the Nebula, a region above Andromeda where Raiders typically spawn + stronger moons available + leaders to recruit) Transports = Units hope that helps!
