I think most people watching haven’t watched season 4. Don't let this vid fool you, he had less technical knowledge, but he was naturally very talented. He was one of the frontrunners throughout his season.
@ismohd873 жыл бұрын
Not really a frontrunner. I'd probably say he was very average and just barely won against Amina to crack top 10. The real turning point was that draw against Sam, where both of them survived and he just kept getting better and better. In the last 5-6 cooks, the guy just went into a different level. He definitely would've studied and practiced a lot at the MasterChef home every night. And the fact he was quite popular probably allowed him to learn from other contestants.

@debbieangel9376 This was one of the earlier seasons where a lot of contestants were just great regular home cooks who used to cook with common ingredients and didn't necessarily know the more complicated thing. In those days, the ability to grow and evolve as a cook mattered a lot more than it does now(Lvl 1 to 50 > Lvl 50 to 52) Andy did exactly that, Fun fact, he is one of the only few(or the only) masterchef contestants to earn a Chef's hat for his restaurant

It's actually a well-established ruse in Australian culture: the carefree (white male) larrikin. If you observe Australian media culture you'll see this character pop up in many different contexts. A common one is to start as a comedy duo and make their way up the entertainment ladder, from radio to TV hosting etc. It's a very easy card for a good-looking Aussie bloke to play because they pretty much get given a whole lot more leeway for otherwise stupid behaviour. It's a harder card for women to play, although someone like Rebel Wilson has definitely broken the mould. The same affordances are not extended to men from different cultures who would be judged extremely harshly for being so willfully dumb.

I remember this season very clearly. Ameena (and a few others) were lightyears ahead of Andy. But Andy was "Australian", white, young and good-looking as hell, and the Producers' brief to choose the top 3 seemed very very clear for so many seasons. Hope the channel and its Producers have moved beyond their biases now. The current lot of judges do seem more fair and impartial than the previous lot. Also soooo much less arrogant, which is a welcome relief. Andy makes a great judge - positive, encouraging and a lovely bloke in general.
