So I'm at the Calgary Stampede Grandstand Show that follows the Chuckwagon Races last night (July 13, 2018) and the announcer says 'Ladies and Gentlemen, Andy Kim', and he's lifted onto the stage from a sunken platform singing 'Rock Me Gently', I almost choked on my funnel cake. Everybody was singing along and having a great time. As this is one of my all time favourite songs of my childhood, I was having an 'out of body' experience. Still can't believe it... he followed up with 'Sugar Sugar' and asked us all to sing along (like he had to ask) everyone was on their feet!

I was born in 1969 and came to age in the 80's and early 90's. I could never understand when I was young why my parents always listened to 50's music, I just thought they were old and didn't know better. Now I understand, music is about remembering a time in your life and soliciting a feeling that has been lost only to be rekindled by a familiar tune. Often I use this music as a therapy session when life gets hard, it takes me back to a simpler time when music was such a large part of my life and I was carefree. My car radio is usually on 80's on 8 or 90's on 9 and guess what? My kids just think I'm old and don't know any better.

I turned 13 in 1968, about the time the Archies sang Sugar Sugar, written by Andy Kim. I kissed my first girl when this song was playing, we sitting on her front porch. Hi Robin.

Sept 2024... I'm in a pub. A lass standing near us says to her fella "take it easy...don't you know" then it went inaudible. That was it, song went in my head. Lyrics came flooding back. Marched to the jukebox, it came on instantly. Louder than the randoms it plays for free. I tell you, when the first "baby baby" kicks in early in the song, the whole pub was singing along. It kickstarted an epic afternoon of classic 70s songs being played on the jukebox. One of my favourite afternoons, I had to post about it 😁

I never knew who sang this amazing song and I also never heard it enough times on oldies radio. When I have heard it I've always loved it. Songs like this are precious and I never get tired of them. Love is the most important thing in the world especially in these terrifying times it's good to hear music that is made to soothe and uplift.

Songs like this are precious to me as well, so as soon as I got the chance I burned a CD played it over and over again. Now my adult children appreciate as I did! Generations will have the opportunity to know good music when they hear it! The least i can do :)
