From what I know. Halva is a Turkish word and in Arabic is pronounced Halwa. The word literally means “Sweet” as in desert or a treat sweet. Which is correct information you as it has various variations. I’m definitely will do your type. It is interesting simple methods while we have rose from Iran. I’m thinking also saffron or Cardamom. Pistachios is available in supermarket along with original and coco flavored.

I had to have a couple of goes at this to get it to work. In the first attempt I used a dark tahini that is much more viscous than stuff you usually get, and it didn't really come together properly. (NB, anyone who is going to try this recipe.) Attempt #2 went much better: I used runnier, lighter tahini with some toasted and crushed pistachios stirred in. Will top with dark chocolate, flaky salt and some more pistachio once it has cooled. Looking forward to trying it! Thanks Andy and the BA team. Edit: cooking spray isn't really a thing in the UK so I coated the loaf tin with some high-quality EV olive oil instead. The flavours should work well. I recently went to a wonderful vaguely Eastern Med/Israeli restaurant (Coal Office in King's Cross, London, in case any of you know it) where the dessert was tahini ice cream served with olive oil and salt -- delicious!

Its nice to know how many countries make halwa. Nice recipe Andy. I am of indian origin, this recipe reminds me of what we call pera in Trinidad which is made with rice flour and the same sugar syrup. Also I usually score the pera before it dries so its doesn't crumble when cut. We call halwa something different, its more liquidy and made with flour or a grain flour that is toasted then sugar and milk is added. Honestly if I was in the BA kitchen I would be going there to eat too, lol!

A tip I learnt...learn the basics and you're good to go because if you use American recipes a lot you will get used to it...for example I know one fluid ounce is 30ml or 1 cuo is about 250ml so when I hear a recipe I have a rough estimate so when I go to gather ingredients its easy or when shopping on American sites. Eg. 3.5 fl oz is about 450ml so I know the size in my head when shopping online.

@@mercynamikoye9084 it's only the temperature that's giving me headache. you can convert ml to oz or gram to lb easily (although they are smart enough to use the empriical system here hehe :p). But with temperature it's much more complicated as°F behaves so much differently than °C, I don'tunderstand the system behind it. You cannot say "roughly multiply it by x and you're at °C or similar, like it is possible with oz and ml

@chloecarter-daves15285 жыл бұрын
It's a professional kitchen thing. I work in the restaurant world and we all drink from random plastic pint and quart containers instead of glasses, and since a ton of these BA people come from the culinary world they probably just continue that because it's what feels right.

@@chloecarter-daves1528 why though? Just more large contianers lying around and fewer cups?
@chloecarter-daves15285 жыл бұрын
@@vn3138 Well you can't have open containers in a kitchen for health code reasons, so that eliminates cups as an option, and you can just pop a lid on a plastic quart container. Also, glassware needs to be saved for guests because pretty much every busy restaurant gets to a point in their night where they just run super ow on glassware.
