One of the best personalities in tennis ever. I only fully realised it after he retired though. That's good cause I wasn't too sad as a Fedfan when he lost that 2009 Wimbledon final. I would have felt worse if I knew more about the guy he is (so humble, a rare level of funny and natural cool plus a very sharp mind for certain -sarcasm and irony often are signs of intelligence and he's sort of a master at those haha-). We miss this guy on the tour but like enjoy his insightful commentaries and interviews, only wish he was more of a permanent (or regular) commentator for Eurosport or something, or even still involved through coaching..

While I really like Andy that’s flawed logic. To be one of the best in history you have to be like Roger Rafa and Novak. You don’t optimistically hope for a weak era you bulldoze through the best and become the best.

Around 2:38 Roger says something along the lines of “I always enjoy when we play... and not just because I win“ which Andy and the crowd seem to perceive as a dig at Andy. I think Roger was being honest rather than funny, but when you’re not a native speaker, it’s hard to tell how different that sentence sounds from “win or lose, I always enjoy playing Andy”

I'd have to agree with you and therefore disagree with your contradictors. He's super good at English no question but his body language indicates (that's a snapshot and it's quite subtle) that he meant it otherwise and just super quickly readjusted when the crowd burst out because he's a smart head and a social animal. Being one of his biggest fans, every time I've seen this footage I've wondered whether people were giving him intentions that weren't his. Your comment convinced me it was a language hiccup as it were. (I realize this was quite lengthy but I tend to pay attention to those linguistic details, being a non-native English teacher^^)

TBF He was actually pretty fortunate in terms of era placement, his competition the first half of his career was pretty bad, he had some really easy draws on his way to face Roger.
