Great video! I found it easier to wind the spring inside the white part. I used a thin piece of painter tape over the outer spring hook to keep it from popping out. Leave a section of that tape long enough for you to tear it out once you get the assembly seated back in the starter housing.

Thank you Soooo much for sharing this. Couldn’t have fixed mine without your help. One thing I found, like others did, is that the spring keeps popping back out when you turn it over to seat it. What I did was tied 3 pieces of fishing string around it to keep it from popping out. It held it in, was thin enough to allow it to seat correctly, and strong enough to snip and pull out ounce locked down. THANKS AGAIN!!!

In the end I couldn’t do it- but without this video I couldn’t have done it even less. More?

Great Video! I have an added technique. When putting in rope after wound up, go the opposite direction putting in rope. Then tie, much easier than trying with hemo stats.

Great video! I fastened the coil in the white disc and wound it inside. Put a clamp on where it slide into the slot. I could not keep enough pressure on it to get in the disc.

You make it look easier than it is but finally got it. Just had to be persistent and rest my thumbs from winding the spring.

If you're just replacing a broken cord, don't take this spring area apart. Pull the old one cord out through the access hole and start at 4:25 with the new cord. If you make the mistake I did and didn't watch the whole video first, search for other ways to put the spring back in. This method didn't work well for me and I found one where you wind it into the housing.

After several attempts to wind spring and it kept popping out, I hit on the idea of a small blob of hot glue which is easily removed if need be, on the first hook of spring, and hold firmly in place till glue is cold. This provided just enough grip so it stayed in place on next wind. I hope my tip helps you guys.

This guy is some sort of wizard...this task borderline impossible (I say that after trying to the last hour). My advice is don't waste time attempting this, just buy entirely new part.

I drilled a tiny hole through the side of the spool and the end of the spring where it kept popping off. I then broke off a toothpick in the hole so the end wouldn't keep slipping out when I flipped it over. (after way too many failed attempts)

So this video makes this look deceptively easy. It it not. After about 15 tries my blower is in the garbage and I'm on my way to Lowe's.
