I'm not a big fan of traditional songs or even bagpipe music but I love Andy Stewart. Traditional Irish songs are dull and lifeless in my opinion but Andy Stewart's song are lively and are some are jokes set to music, for want of a better phrase, with a punchline in the last line of the last verse.I was just about too young to remember his White Heather Club show at Hogmanay in the 70s(I'm 48) but my Dad says it was what made New Years Eve brilliant back then. Nowadays the BBC is the only channel that sees in the New Year and and it only lasts about 15 minutes,if you're lucky. I'm from Northern Ireland so maybe it's an Ulster Scotch thing.
