Andy Summers performing “Tea in the Sahara” from the Synchronicity album at the Beacon Theater in Hopewell, Virginia on July 28, 2023. The photos on the screen behind him are ones he himself took while traveling through Morocco.

For clarification, this wasn’t a “concert” in the traditional sense (for that, look for shows he names “Call The Police” from South America). This was an evening intended to highlight his photography (he’s a very accomplished photographer), telling stories and playing guitar to backing tracks. It was a lot more low-key than seeing The Police in a 20,000-seat arena, and that was fine with me. I didn’t catch any of his solo songs on film; I wish I had.

Can't even begin to say how good this guy really is and how he continues to fly under the radar and not really be appreciated for how innovative he can be. I don't exactly know why

I think he is amongst guitarists. Pretty much the “sound of the 80’s guitar” came from either him or The Edge. To think that 1978 gave us Andy Summers, Mark Knopfler, and EVH. A good year for pioneering guitarists.

Maybe it's because he has always preferred the music as opposed to fame and the spotlight... Of course being part of The Police made him a star but he's always been a dedicated and passionate musician...

Saw the Seattle show in November and it was a blast. What you don't really get from any single clip was what an expansive and varied performance it was: jazz standards, avant jazz, Middle Eastern inflected music, plus the requisite interpretations of seven or eight Police songs. All interspersed with moments where Andy would put down the guitar, come to front of stage and tell a funny anecdote from his travels or interpret his photos. It was a great evening, really entertaining and summative for his unique career.

One of my favourite Police songs. So mysterious and evocative. I loved Stewart's playing on this song. Andy is sublime as are the lyrics and Sting's voice. From the last album they did as The Police. Sort of sad to think what Andy and Stewart would have added to all those later solo Sting song's. I have a dream that they recorded quite a few songs together that have never been released and one day a Police album will come out that will give final closure to this unreal and historic band!!!!

He painted soundscapes with his Telecaster in the Police. Great technique and effects. Every Breath You Take is the most played song in history with a Billion plays on the Internet. He wrote the guitar part for it. Summers and Page are my favorite guitarists. Excellent!

saw this show in Kent, Ohio.. super fun and entertaining. Really explored some different genres. Super casual and low key. Kinda like hanging out in his living room.
@martincox96916 ай бұрын
That’s a great way to put it. It was 90 minutes of relaxed hanging out and listening to Andy tell stories, show photos, and do atmospheric noodling on his guitar. All for the price of $35 from the fifth row. Was it the energy of seeing them in a medium-sized arena on the Ghost tour in 1982? No, but I’d put it above seeing them from the nosebleed seats of a large arena on the 2006 reunion tour.

Not entirely sold on this and I absolutely adore Andy Summers. It starts off too vague. I think if I was going to start with Sting's melody I would have gone through the whole things. It just kind of hangs there without any real intent or direction. Then when Andy starts to open it up a bit it sounds, to my shock, very unsure. He should absolutely OWN this song. I'm so glad he is playing but this doesn't come close to doing him or his legacy justice.

Was the Puppet Show before or after this? And how many times did he tell them the order? This, admittedly short clip, makes a great guitarist sound like......me, noodling about, not knowing what to play. There's something quite 'sad' about this...

I wish I hadn’t seen this. Andy Summers was very important to the Police sound and you have to be at least “brilliant” when your band is a 3 piece, there’s no slack to carry mediocre musicians. This unfortunate video is not showing Andy at his best, which is a shame because I want to remember him as a great guitarist playing great guitar in great songs.
