Emailed Andy (on behalf of everyone) to see what the piece that made Dan cry is called, and here is his reply: "Hi Adrian! Thanks for the kind words :) The song is called "Here Lies The Heart" and is very much a tribute to Chopin who I love dearly. It will be part of an upcoming record called "Bitter Suites: The Outlier Nocturnes", a collection of solo guitar pieces. Keep playing! Andy Timmons"

I'm glad everyone gets to see what a wonderful person Andy Timmons is, and what silly good tone he has. Someone on here said it perfectly, Andy doesn't play any throw-away notes, not even when he's unplugged and talking with people...he is always purposeful and in emotional-tune with his guitar. What can't be understated is, how Andy's constant guidance pushed us to design something better than we ever could have without him. Andy is a force that brought us to a higher level. Thanks Andy, Dan, and Mick!

Living in DFW, hitting all the shops and shows, you hear endless stories about how humble and nice Timmons is. My own brief encounter at Dallas Guitar Show: was playing a BadCat HotCat, deciding between it, a Suhr Badger 30 and a Friedman Smallbox 50(which I took home) when none other than GearMannDude said, "Andy Timmons just stopped to watch you play." Me, "Nuh uh." GMD, "Yeah, he was checking out." Glad he told me after he left. Honestly, I'd have been happy to chat him up, and from what I hear, he'd have been happy as well. Saw him last year doing the Hendrix thing with Josh/JHS. He's just so darn likeable, with the most tasty, tastiest? Playing.

Dan’s unashamed attitude reacting emotionally towards guitar tones and notes is inspiring. It shows how passionate he is about guitars. It also shows the power of music. Sometimes we make ourselves to busy with life and pushing emotions down and music allows us (sometimes even forces us) to relax our minds and allow those emotions to come up. It’s moments like these when we can forget the things that separate us and have unity. Man, good stuff Andy and thank you Dan and Mick for providing an avenue for this to happen.

Very nicely put, Stephen. Moved by that section of the video, I've just lost myself for over 40mins, tuning into my intonation, note choice, tone, picking etc etc - and feel so good for it. How is this normal? I didn't cry, just felt overwhelmed and enjoying every note...10 seconds later Dan cried. Andy is an amazing guitar player, don't get me wrong, very knowledgeable but he has something that not all the virtuosos has: that feel, the taste, and that's something that makes you feel, no need of thousands of notes, fancy scales, just feel, articulations and taste. AMAZING SOUND! Such an amazing show for us guitar players, really valuable! Thank you Mick and Dan for your effort and dedication also for your amazing guitar playing and knowledge.

After watching this… I think I’m moving Andy into the same level as Jeff Beck for the ability to pull raw emotion out of his dynamics. Just floored. @Dan - Being that moved by music is a beautiful thing, and don’t ever stop letting it happen. For a period of time in my life (much was going on) I couldn’t listen to Jeff Beck’s version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” without bursting into tears. Music and emotion are so closely tied together; great to see you embrace it!

I was thinking the exact same thing while watching the show. There is a certain Beck's quality in AT's playing and sense for dynamics.

The last time I was brought to tears by guitar (read: note selection, phrasing, pacing, execution, et al) happened while I heard David Gilmour, in person. This is the first time I've cried watching a performance on video. Mirror neurons notwithstanding, Andy's music is an emotional sledgehammer, wrapped in the softest feather pillow. Extraordinary.

As elements forming Andy's tone, I wonder what's the contribution of Andy's pickups, namely DiMarzio AT-1 humbucker and Cruiser humbucking singles, besides the pedals, amps and of course his exceptional playing.

When Andy started playing that magical progression my eyes were flitting back and fourth between Dan and Mick. It really was something else. The tone; the note choices; the dynamics; just wow! 'Andy makes Dan cry (really)' will be one of those vids people will return to time and time again. Hearing that immediately makes you want to play guitar. Friday night in with the lads at TPS! I could wax lyrical for hours phwoar...

SO I literally just plugged in the ATZ100 and went for a spin....... I was an advocate for buying mid range guitars and upgrading basically everything - custom wiring, better caps, electronics, hardware, pickups the lot. Logically I couldn't think that tonally there could be a big difference between expensive vs mid range......I mean it's the same wiring, same pickups, same electronics how big of a difference can there be right, if wood doesn't contribute to tone then they should sound the same more or less. The problem was I never bought and played an expensive guitar and boy was I wrong......my old guitar isn't even in the same universe as my new one, everything is better. Honestly I won't just talk BS I would have conceded if it was a rip off but..... playability is way better, ergonomics, resonance is out if this world......the dynamics super responsive and also super resonant and sustains when I play as soft as I physically can. The tone is warm, biggest difference for me is in the top end, high frequency response, warm, clear yet a smoothness that is difficult to explain. Hands down buy an expensive guitar, worth it. The two guitars that I compared are a heavily modded, and I mean edge rolled frets, oli neck, new everything, bass cut pot switch craft jack etc etc the freakin works......Ibanez RG2570Z Prestige vs Ibanez ATZ100-SBT......The ATZ100 worth every freakin penny......I would have paid double to be honest. Awesome experience, one that I'll remember forever, and I'm not even kidding.

Since I won’t be able to afford a proper Ric. It’s making me consider some toaster pickups in my ES-135 It really is time that Ricenbacker join the 20th century and allow their prices to be listed. I really think they could do well with an upper end import guitar.

I’ll watch this again and again. Thanks so much for having Andy on again. He’s an incredible artist and a finer human. I’ve met him several times, and he is always the nicest and most humble regular guy. What you see in the emotional response is what I’ve experienced every time I’ve seen him play. Such a special guy on his instrument. Great music education but a better ear. Best TPS ever! This one and the Greg Koch episode go down as the two best shows ever. Thank you Dan and Mick for presenting this great platform for us all to learn from and enjoy!

I had no idea that Andy Timmons used one of Steve Fryette's amps so recently. i wonder whether a Synergy SYN-1 chassis and one of the Fryette preamp modules would suit him for such gigs, and I would love to hear him play an amp so profoundly different than a Mesa.

This is honestly amongst the greatest lessons I have ever received in how to approach a guitar as a musical instrument in general. It's not only about how to shape the tone. What you gentlemen don't say (but can be clearly seen) is just as important as what you say and present. Your passion, dedication, talent, wisdom and humbleness is what occasionally creates these fabulous moments worth living for. We have experienced several of those in this episode.
