CORRECTION: Andycine A6 Lite has HDMI Out
The Andycine A6 monitor has been my go to DSLR monitor ever since I got it in for review, its light, its easy to setup, and it can power my GH5 all off of its NPF battery. They've since continued updating the A6 line bringing more and more features. But this time the A6 Plus really puts it close against the SmallHD Focus 5 at over half the cost! It's main features includes the ability to import your own 3D Luts and its capacitive touch screen making it easy to navigate the menu and zoom into your image.

Hey hey Conrad! I do love the touchscreen screen as well! I love using it for that zoom feature, such a crisp image! I couldn't believe it! I was half expecting it to be that pseudo digital zoom where it becomes more pixelated as you go, but for some reason this one doesn't do that, both a 1080 and 4k signal looks equally sharp zooming in. I'm not sure why, you'd think that it wouldn't be, but I'm not complaining! Thanks again for stopping by! Hope all is well and see you in the next one!

I updated the firmware 6/18/20 - USB Type-C Power input: You can use USB power adapter or Powerbank to power V2 monitor. - Auto Image Flip(Horizontal&Vertical) - Updates to the monitoring features which include a waveform and vectorscope - Nine grid monitoring features - Up to 50 LUT’s can also be installed onto the A6 Plus monitor with this update too, previously only 8 custom installed LUT’s could be installed. Awesome video! Continuing to add to my setup and debating monitors - 5" vs 7", touch vs not, etc. Narrowed it down to BestView / Desview R7 (some don't see the B and t in logo), the Andycine A6Plus, and Feelworld T7. Liked your summary - Got the Andycine A6Plus with your link. Giving up size for touch and ability to pinch zoom, and powering camera off the monitor. Now to watch more of your videos. :)

Hey hey Matt! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! It seems there are multiple different firmware versions I'm aware of, I was sent a v1.0.0 so mine could be slightly different. Are you able to cycle through the LUTS? On mine after its loaded, the LUT doesn't actually show up as a name but rather just an empty space, but the LUT does load. Lastly make sure the SD Card and LUT are within spec as I described in the video. But try this one additional thing. If you LUT is named like this "Cinema2020_ver1_00.cube" Try renaming it to something super simple (4 letters) with no numerals. "Cine.cube". Try that and see if it works. Hope this helps! @TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
Hey hey David! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! You will need to purchase the "dummy battery" that would plug into the size of this external monitor. I see you other comment about which camera you are using. So you would need this DC to Dummy Battery adapter: amzn.to/2CsAbFV (affiliate link) Once you got everything, put the battery in to the monitor, plug the DC part of the dummy battery to the DC OUT port (make sure you plug into the right one) and then put the dummy battery into your Fuji. There should be some sort of rubber flap somewhere that allows you to route the wire out of the camera so that you can shut the battery door. Turn on the monitor and turn on the camera and you should be good to go! Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

Hey hey again Adam! Idk that Swit looks pretty sleek! If Andycine ever makes a A6 Ultra and adding full metal construction, SDI 6g and HDMI, 800-1000nits at a $299 price, could be interesting placement in the market at $200 cheaper than the SmallHD Focus 5. Hey LOBO Films! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Hmm... There could be two things that I can think of. If you go into the A6 Menu, the 3rd menu selection there is a option called "Scan Mode" for my camera, GH5, I keep this setting at Under Scan. I'm not sure what camera you're using, but you may want to go through the Scan modes and see which one works best. The 2nd thing to try is to go into your cameras HDMI out settings and see if there's anything in there that would change how its outputting the HDMI signal. Since I don't know your camera model, I'm not sure if there would be any difference in HDMI output. In theory there shouldn't be much to do here, but worth a look. Hope this helps! hi and again thank you very much for this solution !! It's awesome !! I have a question? i also shoot with sony a6400, would the monitor work if i shoot in 4k? I shoot a lot in HD 120 fps, does the monitor work? thank you very much for your answer. friendly Tristan
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Tristan! Yes, this will work because the monitor will automatically accept the 4k resolution and just display it at 1080p as the monitor itself is just a 1080 panel. When you shoot in 120fps, your camera isn't actually displaying it at 120p to you, just 60p. So yes, the monitor will be fine in that you can see it. However Sony is odd in terms of their HDMI abilities. Sometimes if you are shooting at high frames, it will turn off the HDMI because it can't process both things at the same time. So you'll need to check with others A6400 users if the HDMI can still work while in HFR modes.

Hey hey Lovre! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Yup, you can pinch zoom while recording! @TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
Hey hey JacobDotson! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! While I don't have personal experience with the Canon 80D, my guess is that the camera may do that naturally when an external monitor is used. There could be a menu setting somewhere that allows both monitors at the same time or maybe something with the Magic Lantern Firmware could allow this? This is not as uncommon for some cameras, they are some Sony cameras where the external monitor won't work the moment you record, you can only use the external monitor for before the shot and after the shot, its super unfortunately but it does seem to be a thing thats out there on some older cameras. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!

Regarding these monitors draining the battery (I have a slightly older 7 inch) the power management is very poor. I have ruined 3 NP-F batteries where the power has drained completely to zero before the unit shuts off. This is very bad news for lithium ions. Most devices use a power management chip that ensures that power-down happens before the cells are totally depleted. If this happens it usually makes recharging impossible and the battery is toast. That is my only gripe with Feelworld/Andycine products. I try to keep my eye on the power-remaining icon and swap out the battery once it hits 20% to avoid battery failures.
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
It's definitely weird that Feelworld/Andycine has not addressed this problem. I as well swap the batteries out before it completely dies just as a safety measure. For now my go-to monitor is the Fotga A50TL. Video review here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWa7ZKOXftqDidk For me it does not drain the battery when I leave one in there, but I will say one user said his did drain. I'm not entirely sure if it was a fluke or maybe it was the make of the battery? But figured I'd mention it. Thanks again for stopping by!

@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Nevin! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Depending on your camera, the easiest thing to get start is to go into the monitors settings page and set up your A6+ to be at 5600K or something along those lines. Most DSLR Camera screens are tuned to this color temp. So by doing the same on your external monitor, the colors should look closer together. There are more settings in the A6+ for you to try and fine tune the monitor to look as close to your cameras monitor as possible. It won't be perfect, but close enough for you to judge your exposure and color settings. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

Hey hey tollan! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Yup, the feelworld F6+ is exactly the same, both companies actually work together on certain monitors. The ones that are Andycine and Feelworld, Andycine is the one that actually designs it and feelworld is a rebrand/distributor. Hope to get to work with feelworld soon, they have some interesting broadcast monitors. That is very unfortunate to hear on feelworlds end for their own designed monitors, Andycine I think has at one time issued out a new firmware before, but it's not very common. I'd urge them both to potentially think about the "Firmware market" in terms of adding features or certain enhancements to their existing product lines, specifically the A6+ because of the SD card integration making it easier to load a firmware file and update. I can't think of what features I would want at this time, 3D luts was something I've wanted in a budget price range and now we finally have it. Thanks again for stopping by and I'll see you in the next one!

The Shinobi does allow for HDR viewing were as the Andycine does not. The Andycine does have an HDMI output should you need it while the Atomos does not. At the end of the day it really will come down to what are you're needs and budget. If all you need is a monitor to view your image on a larger screen as well as a couple nice exposure features like "False color", then I would just save the extra 70 dollars and go with the Andycine. Hey hey DaxNz! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I think this greatly depends as I've used it outside with the sunhood. If the sun is right behind you and you have the camera at a lower angle forcing you to tilt the screen up. In these types of situations, it can be harder to see. If you were facing the other direction, it wouldn't be that much of a problem. However I will say that because it's got a plastic cover in front, that does reflect more so you may see reflections from your environment outside. The monitor of choice I use these days is the Fotga A50 series because it has a matte screen instead. You can check out that review here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWa7ZKOXftqDidk Hope this helps! I am using a GH5 as a webcam, with the HDMI output into a capture card, so I have no POST editing options. I wonder how I can apply a LUT to the HDMI output of my gh5 before it goes into the capture card ?
@AdamKuzniar
@AdamKuzniar 5 жыл бұрын
if you shoot vlog on gh5, you can put a lut in the gh5 and set the hdmi to output with the lut enabled alternatively if you stream with OBS you can use LUTs in it as well
@robinmordasiewicz
@robinmordasiewicz 5 жыл бұрын
Adam Kuzniar I don’t have vlog installed, but I tried HLG with the default LUT applied to the output, but it seems there is no way to load a custom LUT. If I purchase the vlog license, will I be able to load custom LUT into the camera, or will I be stuck with the default output LUT ?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Robin! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! As Adam suggested, you could go the V-log route the only catch is that you need to make sure they are .vlt LUTS instead of the more common .cube LUTS. I'm not sure if this is an easy process to convert .cube files. Otherwise, at this time, I can't think of another easy budget solution that can apply a LUT to the video feed before it goes into your capture card. Perhaps there is an app somewhere that could apply a LUT on the software side? I think Livestreamers are able to use LUTS in their OBS streaming software. Hope this helps and leads to a solution! TLDR Filmmaker ...wait, so are you saying that I am able to load customized LUT directly onto the GH5 so that the HDMI output is color corrected straight off the camera ?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
@@robinmordasiewicz Correct, you will need to purchase the $100 V-Log Upgrade in order to load your own custom LUTS onto the GH5. I believe you can load up to 4-5 LUTS I think (I don't personally have the V-Log upgrade) Just remember that you need to find or convert .cube LUTS into .vlt If you are using OBS or some other software to use your capture card, I would see if there's a software side first and save the $100 cash.

@@TLDR_filmmaker "Leeming LUT Pro - Sony HLG for Rec709.cube" I thought the file name might be too long, so I also tried Leeming.cube. I should clarify that this is actually the Feelworld version. At any rate, I was able to speak to their customer service department last night. They sent me a firmware upgrade, which failed to install, so it sounds like there might be an issue with the SD card reader. They told me to send it back, so I'm returning it to Amazon and going to try the Andycine version.

@@TLDR_filmmaker Figured I'd follow up on this with one more update. I did try formatting with both FAT32 and NTFS via a PC with multiple cards. Same issue with both the Andycine and Feelworld version. Feelworld support asked me to provide the serial number of the monitor and then followed up to inform me that I would need to send the monitor back to Hong Kong (at my own expense) to be repaired. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but it sounds like maybe this newer firmware is causing problems. At any rate, I'm just going to return to Amazon as I don't want to pay international shipping and can't wait the 1-2 months it will probably take to get a replacement. I would love to hear from someone else who recently purchased the monitor and has Firmware version 1.0.2!

Does this monitor supports 1080 at 120fps recording?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Alfa! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! In terms of actual recording from the monitor, no. this is purely for monitoring purposes and does not have internal recording capabilities. If you mean if it will display an video image when you are filming at 1080 @ 120fps, yes. The signal will technically be at 60p while you're recording on your camera, but it will still display a video so you can use the monitor to follow the action. Hope this helps! TLDR Filmmaker thank you for answering, I have the same monitor. However when I put my camera in 1080 at 120 FPS the monitor just mirror the settings of my camera and I don’t get anything. I have the Sony a73. Also face detection turns off when I try recording 4K with this monitor .
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
Ah I see. I just got the A7iii not too long ago and I am learning all the odd quirts that it can't do like my GH5. The monitor not being able to display an image when shooting 120fps may very well be one of them. Face detection does stop working when you are recording internally at 4k while having a HDMI monitor attached, not to mention you can't display any settings info to a monitor when you're in 4k mode, only in 1080 mode can you do it. I'm learning why some people don't like the Sony for certain jobs because of odd limitations like this. So my guess is that when you are filming 120fps, the A7iii cannot handle sending out a video signal while recording at the same time :(

@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Alejandro Alfaro! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! The Focus Assist feature works as well as it can being without it being part of the camera's own processing internally. Because of the higher resolution of the screen its able to detect a sharp contrast point better than a 7" 480p panel. I suspect when panels of this size are able to get a 4k resolution panel that the focus assist features will be even more responsive. Hope this helps! Hmm... As a last resort I would make sure you reformat your SD card with a computer so it's fresh, either Fat32 (aka MS DOS) or NTSF. When you put the LUT on the SD Card, don't make a folder or anything, just place it straight onto it (This is known as ROOT). Make sure the .CUBE is renamed to .cube. If that still doesn't work, I wonder if maybe you have a older firmware? My firmware is 1.0.0 (you can find this in the "gear icon" menu. If its before that firmware, I would try to contact Andycine (Or feelworld if you have that version) and ask for updated firmware. Hope this helps!
