You’ll never believe what happened. I got good at screaming and using Vocal Fry and I showed it to my Choir director thinking I would get a laugh, but instead she was like “Wow! That sounds like architects” And I was like “No way! You like architects?” And we had the best ever conversation about Metalcore/Deathcore. To this day we vibe over bands like Northlane, Erra, Veil of Maya, Fit For A King and more.

This video did, in fact, teach me how to fry scream. It takes time, practice, knowing when to stop before you hurt your voice, the occasional coughing fit, developing an understanding of when the neighbors aren't home, and finding VERY tolerant housemates. But it works, and all I can say is THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANKS!
@nicolewong31062 жыл бұрын
How long did it take you to get there? I can do the grudge noise and the diaphragmatic exhale but somehow combining the two makes my throat hurt without fail every time...
@SaltWaterDrums2 жыл бұрын
@@nicolewong3106 About a year of regularly working at it. I strongly reccomend looking for some stuff on vocal warmups as that helps avoid soreness. Make sure to drink water (lukewarm, not cold), try and keep your face and neck muscles relaxed, don't push yourself too hard and don't practice for more than an hour at a stretch in the early stages.

Honestly I found the best way to describe the feeling of fry is trying to speak in both head and chest register at the same time, so you start off in head voice and start trying to bring in your normal voice slowly and gently, you don't want to just start belting the note, it is almost like bringing low fry into a falsetto in a way I just feel like everyone describes it to differently and sometimes it depends person to person how they engage and describe the feeling

I had a great fry voice on my teen years and early twenties. But after a 2 year break, a band called me to join them as a bassist and they wanted me to record some back up fry vocals on the new album, and after a couple days of voice recording... my throat was done and I felt how I'd hurt my vocal chords. Ever after that I've been scared to 'scream' again, but somehow this video inspired me into going back to basics and start over again. Of course I must had screwed my vocal chords since I can't get a consistent growl (it glitches), but either way after going back to practice from zero the improvement to where my voice was for all these years has been notorious to at least feel comfortable to do back up vocals.

That means you're not using proper technique. Basically if it hurts, it's not correct. Sadly I don't have any pointers, but maybe Chris Liepe(Leipe? I forget) does.

I'm a jazz and classical singer but my whole life I wanted to try singing like this, never tried it cos I had NO idea how to do it and didn't want to damage my vocal chords but after seeing your video, definitely I'm gonna give it a try!!! Thank you!! ..did I said that you sound AMAZING?!

Because I was never in a band and have nothing to show for my effort, you can easily discount what I say. For years I sang in my car and home, along with the artists I listened to, as though I was the front man of the band. I think I sounded just like them, song after song after song. Those that heard me said I was really talented. I had no vocal coach, and never warmed up. Now my voice is trash. I can get through maybe one song before I completely lose my voice and can't sing shit. What a waste. Before I started screaming I actually had a good singing voice by itself without screaming. Now I can't sing or scream shit. You decide your musical path as I did. Just make sure that you make decisions that aren't short sighted. Nothing in the world felt better to me than ripping scream after scream, song after song, in my car. I loved it. Long commutes daily, year after year by myself in my car.... now I can't sing or scream at all because my voice is trash.

I was trying to fry scream for a month ended up learning false chord instead idk how. Then I watch this again because I've been practicing my false chord for the past month (2 months in total of screaming practice) skipped to vocal fry part because I have the breathing technique down and did a fry scream after 5 seconds.

Hi Andy, I think it is great that you posted this video! It will help many singers to develop in their musicality. Music is no competition as many think! No one will ever sound like you and will never be able to replace someone else. And who cares about musicians if not their fans and other musicians?!

Zachary Williams it's was the same for me fry scream is the latest thing I've learned and the most difficult to overcome the whisper you have to add more pression but not to much it's a question of quantity and it's a pain in the ass when you are done false chords but don't give up you can do it

Could you please do something about air control? like how to control your air supply on stage or just a little tip to avoid the headaches. Greetings from Venezuela and keep up the good work, man o/
@theevildead967 жыл бұрын
IamSkullTxus Xou can avoid headaches if you are only pushing with your guts and not with your head. And well about the air control, you have to test things. That has worked for me. Try some longer but not so powerful screams. I can push my short shouts way harder (without hurting my self) than my long screams.
