Andrei Kiralenko could have made this list. I remember seeing Tim Duncan on a podcast being asked about playing World of Warcraft. Duncan said that he was really into that game but Kiralenko was an addict. The night before a playoff game Duncan was up at 2 am playing because he was injured and didn't need to get sleep for the game, but he ran into Kiralenko in game. Also, I'm standing up for Hassan Whiteside. He is one of those players whose perception holds him back. Whiteside's last year as a starter in Portland he was averaging 13 rebounds and led the league in blocks at 3 per game. The Blzaers let him walk (being literally their only defensive player) and nobody wanted to sign him. The Kings paid him a minimum, and were the worst defensive team in the NBA. Despite having Whiteside on the roster, Luke Walton wouldn't play Whiteside at all. The net effect of that is, Walton got fired because people finally figured out that he's a terrible coach and Whiteside gets thought of as "washed" because a bad coach buried him on a team with a bad roster. I understand that Whiteside doesn't have the heart of a champion. But I also can't sign off on him being a disappointment. There is so much going on in this league that is more about player perception trumping player ability. It's one of my least favorite aspects of the NBA. Seeing coach's or organizations not utilize their players talents while that player shoulders all of the burden that comes along with it.

Yes, but Jokic is highly competitive on the court and off. Also very locked in to help his teammates win. The thing these guys lack work ethic, but also “future sight”. Curtis Martin hated football and really didn’t want to play in the NFL. On draft night, he tried to leave, until his uncle told him “if you work hard and frfr work at this, you’ll be able to help people and your family the way you’ve always wanted.” He became a HOFer…why? He understood that busting his ass would give him everything he REALLY wanted. @thebalkansnorlax54558 ай бұрын
I love curtis martin, i have his jersey and his story is inspiring. On the other hand it's different in the modern NBA. Football players generally earn less and especially in the early 2000's. Curtis Martin earned a little less than 50 million over his whole career, while Whiteside who played for like 4 seasons moderately well earned double that. Modern NBA players like Ayton don't need to work hard to be insanely rich. I know adjusted for inflation curtis's money is worth more, but in his day there weren't players that could just get by on talent alone. Now you can.

Yea, another problem that people forget about is that it's a game, a kids game really. It does nothing to really show any type of contribution to the real world. Basketball makes people a lot of money, but it's non-essential in terms of it's not needed for society to function. I think that's another reason, it's kinda hard for some players to live and breathe with the motivation to put a ball in a basket. I don't think towns hates basketball. I think (IN HIS HEAD) he looks at basketball as 9-5. So when it time to go home he wants to do what he wants to do...

What you described is certainly not loving basketball. 9-5 aint love. Wanting to do what he loves when he gets home, but its not ball.

@@jakasmalakas To me and you he living the dream he getting paid to play basketball and yes that is dream come true. But I promise you if you had your dream job eventually its not gonna seem so special especially if you been doing for free sense childhood.Him wanting to play games after work(again it's his job) should not translate to him hating basketball. You can say he not that invested or doesn't have the mentality to want to be better that's all certainly true. So can we say Micah Parsons hates football because instead of studying tape and working out he doing podcast? Now Ben simmons he hates basketball.

As a Heat fan, there was a lot of great stuff we saw in Whiteside. It was positive shift post the Lebron era. But as the years went on, we noticed he was very immature and only caring about getting his "2k rating up."
@ydlee58888 ай бұрын
Andrew Wiggins. He's out indefinitely for second year in a row for "personal" reasons. Though you only see a few ever do it, in 2024, you can respect a player needing to do that and give him benefit of the doubt. But when it starts to become a pattern, the BS has to be called out. At the end of the day, it's his job and he's getting paid millions to do it. At some point in time, you just gotta suck it up and do what you are paid to do and use the offseason to mop and whine if you must.
@silversoulken8 ай бұрын
I hear ya, BUT Wiggins is certainly an odd case. It seems like there is ALWAYS a bunch of bullshit going on in his personal life. Then factor in who his dad was and what he got banned from the NBA for, yeah I don’t doubt Wiggins atp in his career has some issues.

Perfectly valid. If you can scam millions of dollars out of a bunch of evil sports team owners, you're doing a good thing. It's a children's game. If you're 7 feet tall and can make some money for playing, you should.

Just because you are good at something doesnt mean you have to love it. Im a software engineer, ive never liked it, i dont care for it, but turns out im somewhat decent at it and it pays well enough for me to have a comfortable life. I dont see anything wrong with that. This impossible standard guys like Jordan or Kobe set up, that you have to be a hyper competitive, hyper focused, hyper ambitious, ultimate winner or there is something wrong with you is unfair and unhealthy.

I think it's the money that went up to the roof from $5M to like $50M a salary. They just want to get their bag. I think if the salaries were like in the $2-$5 Million range still, they would be competitive.

Great Video. I was just thinking this about big men not having the same passion and drive as the guards just because they are tall and have less comp. Not sure about D Williams but KAT for sure belongs on this list. I don't care if he scored 62 one time. Jimmy was right. Wiggins should be on here as well.

Ben Simmons is a prime example why Ayton is just fine being stable and not improving. Imaging Ben Simmons still play like his rookie or sophomore year, he'd be doing just fine. Probably not winning a ring any time soon but he can easily make the starter spot in most teams and not worrying about the next contract.
