One thing that I'd recommend while vinyl wrapping is using a winter glove as a sort of squeegee, helps smooth slightly more intricate parts with your fingers and will help protect your hand if you're using a heatgun.

If you don't like how the edges join, you could always use some pin striping tape over the edges in a contrasting color... Maybe if the bike was red and you were putting a black carbon fiber vinyl wrap on it, you could use some very narrow red pin strips on your edges as accents? Just like we don't expect the people who put sheetrock on walls to have perfect fit along the bottoms of the walls or around the doors and they use trim pieces / moldings instead.
@AndyManCam4 жыл бұрын
I'm with you there. Problem with this stuff is that it's textured, so the pinstriping doesn't really stick as well as it would on a smooth vinyl. So eventually it starts to peel off. Could be that I did it badly, but hey, just an amateur!

I always wrap my bikes, see my most favorite in my avatar although the wheels were plasti dipped. The best trick I have learnt is that if you are faced with a panel that is near impossible to single wrap and you have to do the wrap in sections, then look for a way to create a design that means you can be lazy and just use a different color and make look like it was meant to be :) I also found that so long a the scratch is not too deep the wrap covers scratches very well with no effort. If it is deep just fill it, smooth it, wrap it. The pro version of the wrap cut is better, it has a stickier back enabling you to do curves more accurately. EDIT: Tension and Stretching are both your friend and your enemy. EDIT EDIT: Umm you should have done the sides first, you want the edge to be facing down that way when anyone standing in front or the side of your bike will not see the edge so easily. Also if you are working with two colors the edge will have risk of getting dirty and it will stand out more if the edge is facing upwards. EDIT EDIT EDIT: Carbon or any textured wrap is the hardest to do... you did pretty good for your first go... try matt next time, it is much more forgiving :) QUADRUPLE EDIT: If you follow CKWrap's guidance you should pull the tape at a 90 degree angle , I think in some places you were leading it which can create a dodgy edge, but the wavy parts you mentioned maybe where parts of the tape pulled away or got stretched away when you were wrapping. BLAH EDIT: check this out kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2HUgIKZfql6q80 ;)

Well done, well done indeed! The film, that is. Good music too. All right then, the tank looks good too! :-)

I think a pat on the back is well deserved, for a novice wrapper being only the second time doing it and doing joins, you done an amazing job. I hope it stands up to the heat, you better get that heat gun for next time ;)
@AndyManCam5 жыл бұрын
Thanks HR. What can I say, I'm a fast learner!! Yeah I think a heat gun will be on the next christmas wish list!

I've done it before and it was a disaster. I got winkles and air bubbles every curve. What a work.

Cheers Chris. Trust me mate, this one almost went south a few times!!

I am sure that there is an obvious answer to this - HA - but I will ask the question anyway ----- do the fuel spills and//or vapour cause the edge to lift inside near the filler cap? Thanks.
@AndyManCam5 жыл бұрын
They haven't yet. Seems to be holding firm. But it's worth remembering that I actualy tucked the vinyl into the filler neck so that the cap actually holds the edge down.

finally put a face on one of the most funny guys doing V-logs! haha Looks good! though about doing it to some parts on my bike
@AndyManCam5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andre. It’s definitely worth a try mate. For the small outlay, it looks good when it works!

Can you use some kind of decorative thin tape over the seams?
@AndyManCam5 жыл бұрын
It's a good idea and I've tried it before. The problem is that the vinyl is very coarsely textured. So the tape doesn't make good contact around the texturing and quickly comes off.
Thanks Brent. Yeah, it’s definitely not straightforward!

Mate, hats off to you for having a go, I've certainly never done it. If I did I'd only be interested in doing a one piece with no visible joins. Surely the wrap is available in wider dimensions.
@AndyManCam5 жыл бұрын
Cheers Mark. I think single pieces is certainly a clever way to start. Otherwise you may just destory all motivation for future projects!! Yeah the vinyl is available in larger dimensions. But I knew that I wouldn't have the skill to do the tank in one and saved the money by getting the smaller size.

Not an easy job at all. You did real nice! Looks great!

it would be a good idea to put a pinstripe vinyl strip over the seam that red tape looked good there. I've used this stuff on my car dash panel around the instrument cluster. it had more extreme gradual angles around the hole. real pain to do..
@AndyManCam5 жыл бұрын
You’re not wrong there. Certainly looked good. I’ll be doing something new soon with brushed steel effect and black pinstripes.

Looks great Andy! Like to do my bike dark brushed aluminium, but do to complete lack of passions combined with OCD on my part, it would put my bike in danger of getting hurt 🤨
@AndyManCam5 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! Brushed Aluminium would be VERY cool! I was tempted by a bit of gunmetal. Maybe next time. I can imagine the Alu stuff would be pretty tough to work with though. I had to suspend much of my OCD for this job. Also had to exercise out of body levels of patience!! :D
