Hey and another great video. I love that you are like my brother and myself and are not a member of the THROW IT AWAY mind set. We will always try to fix something before throwing it out. Sometimes things are made so cheap that it cant be fixed but we always try and like you I love to see how things work and fix them. I love your videos you shouldn't apologize for the long videos as you are very good at explaining in detail how and why things work and how to fix them. I have watched well over half of your 800 videos and looking forward to you and the Mrs getting the footage of your trips edited. Opps I am doing what you say you do rambling or waffling LOL.

Thanks Andy. I'm in the same situation. My dad bought a wench for me at an auction back in 1987. I used it for 2 years in Iceland. Not much though. It took too long to wench people out of the snow. It was faster to hook a strap to them and yank them out. I can only remember using it twice since then. Once to pull me literally off the side of a cliff and once to pull up a steep hill for the fun of it. Otherwise it has been sitting in my storage unit. I have a new truck with a massive front bumper with Anderson plus front and back. Used to be a forestry truck. Perfect vehicle for my old wench. I need to replace the two solenoids but the Ramsey wench doesn't move when I apply power straight to the wench connectors. I am like you. I disassembled the wench. The gear section grease was old and dried. I cleaned then all up and packed the case with new decrease. I cleaned the electrical section and put it back together but still nothing. I never submerged the wench so it isn't corroded. Thanks for showing me how to test the motor components. I we will take it back apart and see if I have a short or open. I couldn't see how you connected the light but my meter has a tone for shorts. My brushes come straight down instead of all around. I placed a piece of cardboard I cut out to hold them in place and then pulled it out once the shift was in place. Thanks again.

So did you get the other winch going with the blackened lacquer? It tested all the same to the cleaner motor.

I would recommend people look at the mile marker pe2500lb or pe3500lb winches, seem they are built better than these warns

I have never come across a brushless motor on a winch, I don't think that technology has entered the winch industry yet. If they can make it work then removing the brushes would certainly make the motor a little more resistant to moisture ingress which is the no. 1 problem. Cheers Andy
