I’m loving my A1 ii that I also received just before Christmas. I have been using it the 200-600mm and agree with all your comments. The pre-capture has been a game changer for me.

Have you considered using the Focus Hold button on the lens for speed boost? Or maybe for pre-capture?
@Wildmanrouse4 күн бұрын
Yep I thought of that a lot but I have avoided using len's buttons as my style is low angle and crawling and too many times I have knocked and activated when I don't want them. So from experience they don't work for me I also think practically they will not work as too far from the shooting button to allow simple and seamless operation.

I have to agree the 200-600 is a serious, serious bargain! Looking forward as always to see what you capture in Africa, looking back over the years, mate you've done some serious travelling, you must know pretty much everyone in India for example, lol. Have a fantastic 2025 and stay safe!

There's always one and it's always me. I shoot Sony APS-C for size & weight considerations but now need blackout free shooring as well. Even the flashing gridlines on the outside of the screen are a problem but I know these can be switched off. My only camera options from Sony appear to be A1 or A1ii to use with APS-C lenses. Expensive I know, but my other option is to switch systems to OM-1ii, maybe with PanaLeica glass. So how does A1ii perform with Sony 70-350mm compared to say OM-1ii and G 100-300mm or PL 100-400mm?
@Wildmanrouse5 күн бұрын
Sorry not a question I can answer. As you see this video and others is about my initial journey with Sony and my images. I'm not into comparisons and this channel won't do that ever I'm sorry to say. So apologies for not being able to help you out.
@bobnason41475 күн бұрын
@Wildmanrouse No worries Andy. I'm not sure anyone can help me at this time as my predicament is far outside mainstream. My main idea is to wait and see what effect any Canon R7ii has on Sony or what the next steps OM Systems may take. Sony, if you're listening, an APS-C stacked sensor camera would be welcomed or maybe an A1c.

Andy, a great video which I found very useful as I'm waiting for mine to be delivered. Can I make a warm suggestion, produce your videos in 4K to really show off the beauty of your photographs because KZbin is butchering them at 1080P?

Very helpful as usual, thanks Andy. I assume you don't use BBF as you have the AF on button assigned to speed burst?
@Wildmanrouse6 күн бұрын
Yeah for me I have never used BBF in my 25 years of being a pro so it's perfect for this!!!!! But everyone to their own!
@BarryBarfield-d7f4 күн бұрын
I am still waiting for delivery of my A1ii, but as I understand it - you can configure the Speed boost as a "toggle" or as a "switch". With Toggle you press to activate, and press again to deactivate. Seems better than having to hold the button in whilst using that function which seems to be your setting? Looking forward to getting my new body. Cheers from Australia.😊
@Wildmanrouse4 күн бұрын
No that's not my setting at all, I don't have to hold anything in it's a toggle!

Can I ask why you used the AFon button instead of the "Sony intended" C5 on the front for speed boost? I tend to use the AFon button set to a high shutter speed boost to 2000 for example.
@Wildmanrouse5 күн бұрын
Because I use what I prefer from a practical standpoint. I find the C5 button hit and miss to reach when I need it, so I may end up putting pre capture there as it's not so instantly needed. I always do what's best for me and works for me rather than following anyone else. Hope this helps.
@MarkClegg-z2i4 күн бұрын
Hi Andy, i was just wondering what made you choose the A1 MKII over the A9 MKIII? only reason i ask is because they state the A9 MKIII is perfect for wildlife, motorsport etc.
@Wildmanrouse4 күн бұрын
Well I make my own decisions Mark on what I need for my pro work. And as I said on previous videos the file size and crop ability plus image quality of the A1 series against a global shutter made the decision easy. I don't use flash either. Check out my global shutter video as I talk more about it there. So in summary I balanced up everything snd the A1 II came out well ahead for what I needed as a pro.

Have you tried the Sony A9iii for pre-capture. It is superb for garden birds in flight. I use a Sony 300mm f2.8 and the 24 mp are more than enough. 120 fps in RAW is excellent. I agree, the custom focus areas in both cameras are highly attractive.
@Wildmanrouse5 күн бұрын
The 24 mp raw for you is enough but as you will know if you've seen my other videos it's not enough for me. I've only been using Sony since September and went down the A1 route as it's better for what I do than the A9iii

My understanding is that speed boost works only with electronic shutter. I also believe that it has an auto setting for shutter (electronic or mechanical). Did you use that or do you use electronic shutter exclusively?
@Wildmanrouse6 күн бұрын
It does and I see no reason not to use the electronic shutter unless I want super slow motion. That's for my photography and that's what the video is on, apologies if I have not covered something important to you 🙏

@ Thank you. No worries, you can’t cover it all at once plus you did answer a question regarding how to use the shutter button and the custom key for speed boost which hadn’t been clear to me up to this point.
