The finished model has a wonderfully real, solid feel to it. The piecewise tracks contribute a lot (it was always rubber/plastic in my time, which took away a lot of the enjoyment), but so does the paint and weathering. I sort of flinch when I hear things like "ok, now I'm going to spend an hour putting millions of .05 mm^2 dots on everything, and then I'll cover that with a wash", but it does help the eye accept the suggestion of realness of the build. The blue-tinged grey is probably completely wrong, but it does suggest a Panzer under the unforgiving Russian sky. Very good!

The multiple piece upper hull is needed so they can mold raised detail on the sides. If it was all one piece the sides and front would need to be smooth in order to get the part out of the molds. That would require multiple small detail pieces to get the detail and would still prevent any rivets or screw heads that would trap the part in the mold half. It also allows the sides and front to be perpendicular to the hull top, molding them together would require "draft", or an angle between the top and sides so the part would release. Look at any square box in a kit, the sides always angle out a little for mold release.

@robertcolbourne3864 жыл бұрын
Pros : almost everything Cons: price and this is true for most new kits , even kits from 20-30 yr old molds are way too expensive. This makes it hard for new modelers to get started . These companies need to make older models to be $20 or less so kids can purchase. As a kid i could buy models in 1/48,1/32,1/35 with my own money.
@ThrowawayModeller4 жыл бұрын
Most definitely! This is why the hobby is oftentimes failing in countries outside the EURO zone or North America. I myself love modelling, but for this kit, I need to work two days (16 hours) and this is just a base kit! Meanwhile, the Zvezda kit of comparable quality is just 20$! I understand it's Tamiya (and muh quality), but this is too much.
@huwtindall70964 жыл бұрын
Fair point. Some of these kits are pretty damn pricey. Having only gotten into the hobby recently (been painting miniatures for ages but no scale modelling) I found Taiyma's really old 1/35 models which used to have little motors in them are great value. Over in the UK can get their Panther A for £15, so about $20 US. In the same range there is also a Panzer II, IV and Stug IV. Having built the Panther and Panzer II I'd say I'm really happy with the bang for your buck. Minimum parts but still decent detail levels including armour texture like weld lines. Sure the moulds are a little old so you need to clean up more than your fair share of flashing and the fit isn't as good as modern kits but overall pretty damn good. For a beginner they are affordable and simple enough to put together.
