From what I read when it comes to camouflage on a German tiger tank, everything is camouflaged. That would mean the tool. Toe hooks cables are camouflaged. That's the way I did mine after I read the article and it turned out great. Now the rubber on the wheels and the tracks that the tank rolls on of course are not camouflage, but everything else is camouflaged. According to the article.

I got mine about an hour ago. It looks excellent. You get two choices of engine deck, two choices of the horizontal glacis plate, and three of the mantlet armor plate. Although there are two different drive sprockets, there is only one center hub choice. I am impressed. They have kept the complexity down but the fidelity of detail looks to be outstanding. Aftermarket parts will no doubt appear quickly. Hey Andy, if you are involved in any upcoming parts (I'm sure you will be) to be offered, please consider the completely neglected "Early/Mid" versions. The main parts needed would be a late model cupola, a pistol port plug, and the later style drive sprocket hub....I can picture a follow-on kit that would probably (like all modern "Mids", not have the Feifels and s-Mines) be an example that would not allow you to build an Early/Mid. David Byrden is, of course, the go-to guy for the exact details.
@daveybyrden3936 Жыл бұрын
You're correct, the first "Mid" Tigers had a new turret but there was no change to the hull. The kit would need a new turret shell (with a pistol port hole, but also the shape changed in places); a new turret side hatch; a new feature for the loader's hatch; the new cupola, which (in this scale) really needs the complete periscopes and internal clock indicator; alternative turret vision ports, because THEY changed shape pretty early on; a second dust-protector on the mantlet opening (for the bottom edge); and a new turret roof of course.
@charlesspaulding7241 Жыл бұрын
@@daveybyrden3936 Thanks for that. I doubt whether my wishes will come to fruition but I can still hope. They really needed to add the alternative hub.

At 21:00 we see the turret roof, and in front of the loader's hatch there is a small periscope cover. Tiger "S04" did not have this, due to its age. This fact is clear in photographs. Some of the other Tigers on the decal sheet did have this periscope.

When tanks are being used, they roll around in the dirt, mud, grass, leaves, sand, etc., they DON'T get rusty, like a quarter in your pocket they are burnished. In fact track's are the first place mud will be knocked off of.
@daveybyrden3936 Жыл бұрын
At 3:20, Andy ignores the kit's instructions. He omits a sunken pot (part T7) because he's building a Tiger with its antenna on the other side of the roof. But the kit's instructions are correct on this point. Part T7 should be used on Wittman's Tiger (and any other Command Tiger). Every Command Tiger had that pot welded into the roof, and a ceramic insulator inside it, and a rubber antenna base on top of that, and a short metal pole protruding from the antenna base. Only the antennas themselves were optional.

Hi Andy, Could you adds some weights to the interior (2-3 pounds). It seems the the road wheels are sitting too low due to the workable suspension, creating a large gap between the road wheels and mud guards. It would also bring the tracks down to touch the 1st-2nd road wheels

Andy, please release a 1/16 Late Tiger, Normandie style, with the steel road wheels! You would be the first, EVER, to release this model in 1/16.. Trouble with track on the tiger how do you keep the horns on the track did the glue ten at once but when removing the sprue the guide horns pop off the track making it so you have to drill out the holes an set the horns one at a time trying not to use to much glue so that the tracks are still moveable.

@loki7441 Жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, The tri colour is superb. Its a tad awkward on some 1/35 models but looks great. What size nozzle were you using on your airbrush. My Iwata brush has a .3 size. You were getting a really fine line there. I saw on you tube a couple of years ago, a guy had a short video on "Water Immersion painting". Basically you wet the whole model in water and spray the white over it . The paint wont stick to the really wet areas. You then immerse it quickly again and remove it and leave to dry. Its a great effect and leaves the original colour intact. The white colour back then was generally just plain old whitewash paint and wore off reasonably quickly. I Used it on a Tamiya 1/35 Leopard Mk1 and it really looked great. I cant wait for my one to arrive. I was told by my good wife last week some of your Christmas present will be here soon. She fessed up as to what it was. I offered to marry her again. 😂

As far as I can tell, Tigers of these versions were never painted RAL 7021 Dunkelgrau (dark grey). I mean all of the versions that you can build from the kit; from about February 1943 to May 1943.
@leonkrouwel1878 Жыл бұрын
Looks very nice! With the winter-camouflaged one, can you add battle damage?, i.e, damage by shells/bullits and destroyed or bent mud gards for instance? (just wondering: Was the Tiger able to have 'Winterketten' ?)
@daveybyrden3936 Жыл бұрын
There were no "Winterketten", i.e. extra wide or specially shaped tracks, for the Tiger 1. But there were small metal ice cleats that you could lock into the standard track links. Usually you would put one into every fourth or fifth link. In the Autumn of 1943 the Tiger 1 got new tracks with surface ridges, and I believe they made the cleats unnecessary. I discuss many other aspects of the model on my website.

Good video!!! Always wondered how the road wheels would be painted IF they were built/glued into place - THANKS!!! for clarifying that. Me - am too lazy to do that so will paint everything on the parts trees before adding them onto the vehicle. Also, the OVERPRAY of the various colors that get onto the rubber part of the road wheels actually ADDS more REALISM to the kit in 1:16 scale. Having been around various armored/wheeled vehicles for the past 40+ years or so and having taken plenty of vehicles to the military installation paint shop (or painted them outdoors IN THE WIND), can tell you that OVERSPRAY is a quite common thing. OVERSPRAY is basically dependent on the skill of the painter and/or how the vehicle crew prepared the vehicle. Most times nobody pays any attention to the road wheels/tires and there will be overspray onto the rubber. However, there will be those overly "dedicated" people in charge that start complaining that there is overspray on the rubber, so you got to figure out how to get paint off of rubber. Solution - run to local hardware store and buy black spray-paint, the CURE-ALL for just about anything!! Any glass (periscopes, windshields, mirrors, etc.) IF NOT covered by tape or newspaper or something, WILL BE PAINTED OVER!! If that happens then the crew have to figure out a way to get that paint off of the glass or other vital items such as DATA PLATES (usually using razor blades to scrape off or paint thinner). Also, certain types of tape can actually be burned onto the glass from the heat/force of the paint coming out of the spray gun and that adds another obstacle to contend with for the crew to get their vehicle in tip-top shape after leaving the paint shop. Tools - IF NOT removed from vehicle, then tools will be painted over. Most units do not like the wood on the tools to be painted over and, IF that happens, then got to figure out how to get the paint off of the wood (lots of SANDPAPER). Main reason for not wanting paint on the wood is because the paint will actually dry out the wood thus weakening it and creating a safety hazard for it is then possible for the tool to BREAK in half when using it - YEP, that does happen. You are supposed to use a resin oil or something (forget what) and apply that to the wood in order to help protect the wood (though if the wood is going to break it is going to break regardless of what is on it).
@Andy.Gledhill.Models. Жыл бұрын
Looks great Andy. But I would never practically fully build a tank before painting it. I would probably do the wheels separate before putting them on the tank. At least with the Black and Dark Yellow. I may have sprayed the camo on the wheels after fitting. I was surprised that you painted the base colour with XF-60 Dark Yellow. Tamiya have now replaced that colour with the more accurate XF-88. Tamiya now have 3 new colours for the camo of German vehicles Xf-88, XF-89 and XF-90.

It's not true that most Early Tiger 1 were "usually German grey" as stated here. The great majority of them were painted either "Tropical" (like Tiger 131) or "Dark Yellow" with optional red and green added. You find these Tiger versions in battalions 502 (mostly Dark Yellow), 504 (probably Tropical, definitely not grey), 505 and 503 (some Tropical, some Dark Yellow with lots of camouflage) and the Tiger companies like Wittman's Kursk company (Dark Yellow with camouflage). I don't believe that ANY Tiger you can build from this kit, was grey. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Hi Andy. Really, really nice job 👏 I am now in a quandary as I was intending to do mine in the winter camo too but this looks superb! I do actually have Tamiya 1/35 Panther and King Tiger kits in the stash waiting to be built so they may have to take the winter scheme. I was actually thinking about doing Ardennes dioramas with them anyway so that would be fine. I may have to have a crack at duplicating this camo scheme as yours looks so good! Sorry to hear my European delivery will be a bit later but at least it will give me a chance to have a practice on one of the others. The only thing with me is that I will have to paint the subsections before assembly - they won't be seen for the most part but I will know! 😁
