I think in my opinion, Chris was a very independent guy and an adventurer who did it all on his own but his paraylsis put him in a position where he needed help not just from his wife, friends, family etc. but from strangers as well. It is a pride test and he past it all with flying colors. Where Chris is at, he is walking and running with his beautiful wife. I am happy for them and I know his children are doing all right because they have the best parents watching over them.

@lesrambles1 Christopher Reeve wasn't selfish! Throughout his life he was involved with many causes and charities close to his heart. These involved the Arts, the environment, children, and human rights. A few of them are: Amnesty International, Save the Children, The National Resources Defence Council, The Lindbergh Foundation, The Environmental Air Force, and People for the American Way; and he was one of the National Endowment For The Arts most passionate supporters.

He said the greatest amount of learning required after the accident was alternate ways of expressing affection. Amazing.

What a great guy Chris Reeve was, but he was wrong about one thing, Yes, you were the custodian of that part in the 70's and 80's, and though they may try- as indeed they have- to recreate it for a new generation- you will ALWAYS be Superman, and you will NEVER be matched. I said to someone once before that Routh was admirable in the role, but you simply can't re paint the Mona Lisa, and no amount of CGI or anything else will ever hold a candle to the CHARACTER you brought to life. Safe Journey!

It's been almost 28 years since that heart breaking day when i found out that my hero went paralyzed neck down and almost 19 years since he "flew" away to heaven. Up until now, i still cannot accept that unfair fate.

@lesrambles1 - Its natural for People to say or think 'thank God thats not me' but only so long as you don't get complacent or think you're somehow immortal. I feel thankful when I see People in unfortunate situations, but I try never ever get complacent. I look after myself, hope and pray my family and friends will always be happy & healthy.

I think , we , myself a paraplegic , believe , when he was alive we came closest to a ''cure'' . Today in 2023 we have a pretty good electric spinal cord stimulator implant device. ''STIMO'' it is trade marked. The difficult part for me has convincing a local hospital to help me.

@xviiimoonshine I'm sorry girl, but Reeve was selfish. He poured his heart and soul into paralysis research afterwards. He said (Larry King 1998 interview):" I was playing a paraplegic in a movie. I was very smug about it... every time I left that rehab center, I would say, thank God that's not me. I was setting myself apart from those who were suffering..I'm very ashamed of how I behaved when I left that rehab center...etc."

lesrambles1 he was an activist before the surgery but in different areas. For an example he would go to places that had political turmoil... I believe it was Chile but I can’t remember exactly. But the point was he was a political activist and also an environmental one too. He also was heavily involved in making a difference in children’s lives. I believe he was involved with Save the Children and so much more.

He admitted to taking his good health for granted, as we all do I’m sure. He had a choice to make: either succumb to despair or rise above it. We all know the choice he made and that, in my opinion, makes him a hero.
