Is this what Victoria 3 will be like in 2025? My best predictions are on full display right here, with a mix of what's likely, and also what I hope can be part of Victoria 3's future!
Victoria 3 is doing a lot of things right even now, but this game is likely to last anywhere between 5-10 years, and will by the end of it be packed with DLC, expansions AND free updates. I think a visual aspect PDX can add to the warfare is replacing the default cannons battling with a squad of irregular units if using them, a line formation of line infantry, and a unit of skirmishers. And it'd be cool to see the map get scarred by trench warfare.

I want more "decision" style gameplay that feels like it matters, like in CK3. The fact that there wasn't a decision for Norway to gain independence from Sweden was a surprise for me. That's like THE event for Norway in this timeperiod, and well it involved Paradox' own nation of Sweden.

CK3 had a similar problem with the UI at launch. It just wasn't very good and rather ugly ckmpared to now. They fixed it in the first few months and they'll do exactly the same with Victoria 3.

There's already a mod project about including Chtulhu myths (monsters, cults etc) in V3, many players are excited about it, a steampunk mod wouldn't have less legitimacy.

I expect Vicky puts love on South America, I think it is the time where it has been interesting in its military history. There had been wars like The Peru-bolivians against the chilean, the war of the three alliances, but something that I haven't seen is saltpeter as a resource, in that time there was a huge demand for it and it was a very valuable resource.

for my opinion this game kinda hard for a newbie, they might not understand about this game. But if they insist to learn they might able to maintain the gameplay. Most people left the game because they keep losing. Gameover doesnt mean you'll lose forever, its part of the game and learning in the same time. for sure this game is addicting once you know the basic.

I started the game, I did 3 starts overall by now (USA, Sweden, Prussia) and all went until now very well. I learned more for sure and my first one (Prussia) for sure is in a way the weakest seeing it's start and run time but still I managed to stay in game easily. Like really with no problem at all. Double radicals then loyals? Still nothing happens. At least for me this game feels quite forgiving and comparing to EU4 where one wrong diplo move or a dead monarch really screws your game this is totally chill. I love the game. The thing is more (I think) that everyone can see EU4 is a deadly beast. You get the feedback and you get it hard. Here... well, you go on and may miss all your goals without really getting what went wrong. Maybe that's an issue for some people?

I don't think Vic3 will survive until 2025. In my opinion the gameplay loop is just not interesting enough, to keep you doing it again and again and again. In contrast to EU and HoI IV there are no funny nations to form, no mission trees to do and not enough different gameplay options, to keep somone (or at least myself) engaged. Most nations play very similar and (thanks to the focus on (global) economy) also deal with the same challenges. Building up an effective industry in Texas isn't much different from doing it in Japan. Your essentially playing the game to achieve a particular set of laws at the end (maybe with specific borders), but once you reaced this point, its kind of over as there is not much more to do.) The game also completly fails to recreate the historical, political challenges/ problems, which the different countries faced in this time, which isn't helping to keep things interesting. (For example Nationalism isn't a real threat to the great Empires, European Imperialism is only a minor inconvienance if you play an African nation, the US Civil War is a joke and so is the Qing Opium crisis and so on.) Biggest problem is the AI though. Its an absolute pushover and I doubt they could teach it, to deal with the different systems of the game. (They could of cause do a lot of scripting, but this brings its own downsides.) Other PDX games have similar problems, but at least gameplay is interesting in those ( - rushing the Soviet Union with 20 highly microed tank divisions in HoI IV never gets old for example).

I think Victoria 3 is much better than Imperator Rome. So i don't think it will massively fail like that. But Vicky has always been a niche game. I don't expect the same level of popularity as CK3 or EU4. I do think Paradox needs to seriously improve their PR. It doesn't matter how open you are, how much Dev Diaries you release, if you take condescending stance to your own fans. It is why Imperator failed. Accept the criticism. But most importantly take it into account for the next game. Nobody wants to wait for patches for the game to be good. The game needs to cater the needs right from the get go. Come on, your own Victoria III is a game based on catering to your populations needs. Use your own game mechanics and apply it to your Company. Right now the conditions of living of the Victoria III fanbase is impoverished. It is up to Paradox to take the game to Middling, Prosperous or Wealthy.

The popularity of both EU4 and HOI4 comes from their capability to be played using weird and unique strategies, the gameplay is robust enough to let players experiment and get different results even with the same nation. Victoria 3 (and for that case Imperator) lacks those mechanics that make paradox games replayable and enjoyable, but Victoria 3 has a stronger base game than Ck2 had, so the future sure looks good despite the mixed reviews

Despite the wonky bugs and some broken mechanics at launch, Victoria 3 is probably the most enjoyable game I have played compare to CK3 and EU4 for me. It feels more satisfying to grow your nation in this game, and once you get over the learning curve, its so exciting to see how much control you can have due to proper economy management and law establishment.

It is OK for the initial (read: barebone) version. There are many gaps to fill by DLCs: diplomacy (very limited, you cannot even return territory!), warfare (no real fortifications), economy (effectively centrally planned, even in laissez-faire you have to decide which factories to build and where, the only automation is auto-expand), immersion/events (all countries feel the same) etc..

They need to make it so there's more diversity with effects of goods you produce and there should be ways to build your economy without having to just increase tools and iron every game. Like if you export enough opium into a country they get an event that leads to opium addiction and stuff like that. Every country has the same build also small countries take half the game to do anything with.

Imo the game suffers mostly from a poor UI, which feels cluttered and has many missing features. Another issue common with other recent pdx games is that playthroughs feel very similar, lacking the variety seen in games like EU4 - the combination of national ideas, idea groups and mission trees, makes for very varied campaigns. I don’t want flavour for the sake of flavour, I’d much prefer determinism in said flavour, not just pitiful events.

The negative reviews are mostly a cordinated campaign by the Victoria 2 players who felt slighted that the game is different than how they wanted it. More like Victoria 2 I guess. Sure the game has a few minor bugs and initial issues. But those will be fixed, even if the game eventually fails. Which I do not believe it will.

And forming the Christian political groups in the countries. And if asian nation who pissed of by spreading Christianity in their country will very likely to persecute Christian group. My problem with Imperator Rome is a play style very different play style too different from past games, and an ignorance of how to play the game. Also, I found the AI to too often magically spawn just the right amount of armies no matter how poor they are. Meanwhile I can't go so much as five feet without my armies being vaporized from attrition alone.

I agree with the opinion that Victoria will be supported for many years. I go to steamdb every day watching statistics. The game still has more players than HoI, the Imperator Rome at that time had around 7,000 players, and the Victoria daily peak has from 28,000 to 40,000. As for the future of the war issue, I think they will not develop tactical but strategic aspects, which I think is a very good decision. I would like them to quickly improve the maps because they are beautiful but very inaccurately made (for example, at that time there was a Kingdom of Poland dependent on Russia on the map, but it did exist. And there's nothing here, it's a big mistake. The Moravian Gate is several hundred kilometers wide!). Similarly, optimizing the game in the late stage of the game is tragic. And the last thing is to update the historical aspect of the game, because now, nothing is happening, and yet this is an era full of international events, not only World War I (Revolutions of 1848, Kulturkampf, tensions (and wars) in international politics in the second half of the 19th century caused by Bismarck's political game, Meji era, etc) However, the game is wonderful, for me one of the best Paradox has released, may it develop well.

Definitely it doesn’t have such a dramatic breaking point as Imperator Rome but there is a downward trend just in the few weeks since release. It could be just that there is not enough data yet, but if the trend continues it doesn’t look good.

Personally i don't see why anyone should hate this game, every game has a period of bugs and poor balancing to its path to success. League, cod anything like that developed for decades. Back to Victoria 3, they introduced features not included in victoria 2, both players and devs need time to adopt and improve. For me personally, i enjoy most bit of victoria 3 dominating the world market with my favourite country france even i played like shit, building random stuffs everywhere and lost a war to the US. However every loses i took, i learnt. Now its my fifth run trying to form germany as austria, i hope it works this time. In conclusion, give the game some time

Because what we view as a fully baked game is a game with a few years of dlc. We are pretty much paying for what we get. A base game with a price tag of well over 100 euros is something nobody is going to buy. Eu4 with all its dlc and the profit margin removed would still be over 200 euros.

Because these games’ “base” version offer so much more than other games out there. Sure there are bugs and I believe we should not have the amount of bugs or imbalance/lack of information that we have, but the amount of content, variety, choice, depth, replayability, these are arguably miles above what other strategy games offer at launch. Paradox also provides massive free updates throughout the lifecycle, while also paying for the production and upkeep of making these games better by selling DLC and expansions over the years. Much better than just leaving a non-buggy base version of the game out, and then continue to the next game in my opinion :)

@@AndysTake I don't know man, plenty of games in the past have been released in a mostly finished condition, received a some minor tweaks and patches and one maybe two expansions at most and still lived just fine for a decade. quality will speak for itself.

The War aspect is so hilariously bad in being transparent. You have no clue what actually wins you battles and what does not, there is some weird terrain width going on which makes it so that on a 400k vs 400k front you sometimes have only fighting 20k men max for the entire war, big battles never seem to happen and the attrition is so high, i doubt they had that many dead from attrition in WW1 as you bleed in this game once you reach that age.

I've try like 5 times to play Imperator. But sorry, this game was BAD on release. If player left the game, it's because Imperator is broken. They're fault.

In my eyes the fact that mods right now are mostly UI, flavor and fixes is an increadibly bad sign. More of a focus on fixing the broken and barren state of the game, than expending on a solid foundation. It's the "Empire Total War" of Paradox games when it comes to mods right now. Hyped yet rotten to its core. I just hope more and more people will realise this and move on from it.

I don’t think it’s a bad sign, I think it’s natural. The smaller mods are always made first - the grand overhauls we now see in games like CK3 did not just happen right after launch, they took months and years. I’m sure they will come :)

Paradox's thickheaded attitude towards their half baked and frankly boring war system does not bode well for the franchise. I don't care how many interesting plot lines they add to countries if you suck out the most dynamic part of this historical timeline. I did not buy this game for this specific lack of feature, and I find my decision substantiated by the developers pigheaded comments post launch. I just hope it does not kill the franchise going forward, because this period in time is fascinating but for the reason the developers have made a conscious effort to turn their noses up.

Problem is that with paradox is, some reason they hate eu4 Dude eu4 is actually a masterpiece why not using its success method? Why going new systems? I dont even know how hard to make a proper basic no clue dumb tutorials for their games? This is main reason they lose players. They get players when youtubers plays and proper tutorials for newbies.

Why are people such cry babies about games? This game is fun and they will support it adding and rebalancing. I kind of overplayed the game the first week so I'm waiting for some patches. Don't want to burn myself out too much before it gets better. I think the game is worth the money as is though. And I already got more hours than most. The late game can use some work because it gets a bit easy by that point. Anyways the game won't be dead because its not primarily multiplayer.
