I had chest pains, shortness of breath, fatigue, headaches, lack of concentration and memory loss. I went from running a mile every other day to not being able to run a quarter of a mile. I had to give up running altogether. The chest pains had me making frequent trips to the hospital, thinking I had heart issues. I had an exercise stress test, nuclear stress test, an echocardiogram and an angiogram; all of those tests were normal. The echo showed I had pulmonary hypertension secondary to sleep apnea. On a hot day in GA, the rain came in during the evening and there was a slight breeze. I started shaking and said I was cold while others were looking as if I were crazy! Oh, I forgot to add the dizziness and lightheadedness. I was cycling one day and felt the dizziness for a brief second or two, but I wasn't alarmed by it, so I continued riding my bike. Within minutes, I felt I was going to pass out. Sweat started dripping off of me as if someone had poured a bucket of water upon my head. I had to call my daughter to meet me on the bike trail just to get me back to my car. That was the scariest moment! I didn't drive my car for the rest of the day.

I was not experiencing any of these symptoms. I had been ill with a cold for four months over the winter. Then I started exercising, and that jump-started my immune system enough to get rid of the cold. But the exercising made my anemia much worse. I had no idea my iron was so low. I got this period that wouldn't go away, and I had that for about two months. I didn't have enough iron in my system for the period to stop. And you can't lift anything if you are bleeding too much, or near the end of the period. I take a lot of iron right now, with Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps you to absorb the iron.

I was just recently diagnosed with Anemia, after being admitted to the Hospital for 3 days. I live on the third floor and each time go up the stairs I felt like I ran a marathon, my heart also would beat so fast. I also slept a lot and when I was a wake my muscles would ache and I would feel so tired. I also chewed a lot of ice and straws and hair pins because I developed ( pica )..My hands and feet were cold every so often and I noticed thinning of my hair. This has been going on for about two years but after experiencing severe chest pains, I couldn't take it any more and went to ER. They found my hemoglobin ( red blood count) as low as 5.. normal is 12.. My poor heart was pumping overtime to try to give my body oxygen that explains the palpitations, shortness of breath, etc. Also, I had skin issues, hair, muscle aches etc.. all caused from low oxygen in the blood. They admitted me to the hospital for 3 days. I was given a blood transfusion because I could have had a stroke if I didn't raise my hemoglobin fast enough. Let me tell you.. it's no joke. My cause is due to fibroids.. but some other folks could have bleeding stools or some other underlining cause for anemia. Get checked out, you will be glad you did. Blessings to all

I started feeling fatigue and shortness of breath a year ago. Now, it has gotten so much worse! I usually have to force myself out of bed, climbing a short amount of stairs gets my heart beating fast, I always wear a sweatshirt even if it’s 90 degrees, and I can’t stop chewing ice! I got a blood test about 3 months ago and it showed that my iron is on the low side but not enough to be fully anemic. Ever since then, symptoms have gotten so much worse. I’m 14 and I always feel low on energy. My parents are concerned and try to stop me whenever I get a tall glass of just ice, no water. I currently have a cold and thus makes matters even worse! Any suggestions on what I should do? Is my “anemia” bad enough to go back to the doctor??

I was diagnosed w/ severe anemia just 1 years ago. Back when I was in HS, I didn't know I was anemic back then, and during my days in a tennis team, whenever I ran for literally 1-3 min. I couldn't breath at all. At one point, I started crying because of it. And when the doctors found out I was anemic, they were pretty surprised I've never fainted before. (Well... I don't recall fainting)

Hello!! A 2024 anemic here since high school and I’m 24. Anemia is very common! My mom and I both have it.. look into supplements and remember to take them as it takes a few months for your levels to regulate. You can feel cold.. tired.. bruise easily.. tingles in extremities.. headaches.. shortness of breath.. chest pain… literally so much. My body has been off for weeks and I realized it was my anemia so I’m back on my supplements but def take it seriously !!

I have some of these symptoms. But the thing is most of them are going away. But one thing keeps getting worse. If I get up after being lethargic for most of the day my vision gets blurry and I loose my balance. I have passed out once but it was for a few seconds. When she said "if you get lightheaded you need to go to a doctor" I'm getting a little worried because it's been happening for almost a year...

+Lauren Clarke Here's what I found out. It got really bad one time and I asked my mom if she could take me to the doctors. I was sent to the hospital. After they gave me fluid and all, they came back and told me I did not have anemia. This surprised me. They told me I was just dehydrated and for a very long time. It was an anxiety attack, the thought of having to suffer anemia, that caused me to feel these symptoms. Apparently, feeling dehydrated and having anemia have similar side effects.
@laurenclarke87798 жыл бұрын
+HusheX well thinking of that, I do have anxiety attacks, and I don't drink much! I find this really weird because I seem comfortable telling people who I don't know on the internet about my problems and illnesses but in really it's a scary thing, knowing that someone is going through the same thing that was pretty much nothing has made me feel a lot better! Thank you so much!

We are not doctors, but we feel your frustration. Everything "appears" to be normal, but you "feel" like it is not. What are you supposed to do? Right? Are you in a position that you can get a 2nd opinion for another dr.? I know it costs money and more time and frustration for you but need answers and maybe an Internal Medical Dr. or an Endocrinologist may be able to dig deeper.

I am a vegan I eat every thing organic and I used to donated blood to the Red Cross in Vancouver-Canada until one day I started feeling nausea dizzy and very weak and I fell down 3 times in a week ..I went to the the Emergecy hospital and had a Iron blood test done and my iron ferritin levels was 3 very low !!so low !!...no wonder i was so sick no energy by 2:00pm I had to lied down for two hours and sleep couldn't go to work for 6 weeks ..I was soo sick and weak I thought I had a "brain tumour" and I was dying I was so depressed .Its been over two months I been taking Iron supplements , nutritional yeast for B12 -B-vitamins and eating food rich in Iron .Now I feel.. 50 percent better I am recovering slowly.. I will not be donating blood to the Red cross thats for sure !NEVER AGAIN ... I never thought low levels of Iron could make a person so sick . Now I am taking "Feramax "150 one pill a day its bringing my iron levels up .I take one capsule contain 150 mg. of iron I take one a day prescribed by the doctor at the hospital ...so far its bringing my iron levels slowly up .I will go for a blood test in 4 weeks .This Anaemia is very serious ! I even lost part of my hearing . I hope my post can help somebody .Once my iron level are up I will start take a more natural Iron supplement but for now I will wait until my iron level reach around 80 to 100 . Anaemia is a very serious condition .. get your Iron levels checked . Iron deficiency anaemia is a condition where a lack of iron in the body leads to a reduction in the number of red blood cells. Iron is used to produce red blood cells, which help store and carry oxygen in the blood. If you have fewer red blood cells than is normal, your organs and tissues won't get as much oxygen as they usually would. There are several different types of anaemia, and each one has a different cause. Iron deficiency anaemia is the most common type. Other types of anaemia can be caused by a lack of vitamin B12 or folate in the body , deficiency of copper by taking too much Zinc supplements - read more about vitamin B12 and folate deficiency anaemia.one more ...."caffeine" can reduce iron absorption by up to "80 percent" ! ..yes 80% !. Consider substituting non-caffeinated versions of coffee, teas and other drinks when you can and not drink pop laden with sugar and caffeine . don't drink milk or tumeric it stops iron abortion ..no dairy no turmeric if you're anaemic ...better you eat , red beets spinach and get you Iron levels checked every 4 months .Also high levels of Iron above 180 can damage your heart body organs . your iron levels should be no higher than 120 .

I am anemic so I opted for injections in my hip every 14 days which is more painful but more convenient for me than taking pills every day. I suffer from heavy periods and can't even leave the house sometimes due to complications. Anemia is serious (it can damage your heart just do some research) and I have my blood tested every 12 weeks because it takes that long to rebuild red blood cells. Women suffer more than men. But if you barely eat you can slip into an anemia easily.

I have same question. I'm late this month. Not sexually active..low energy.. dry skin lightheaded..weak and muscles feel even weaknesses can't simply lift dishes to wash. Want sleep all the time. If it's lower than 5, does your body just go into alarm and stop until iron levels get better?

I have random bruises and recently developed one on my chin (I would have remembered hitting my chin) and I started piecing my symptoms together. I get rapid heart rate often, bruising, crazy fatigue (always tired), light headed a lot. Sometimes I even get dizzy spells & confusion. I'll be right in the middle of a sentence and I will not remember what we were talking about. I have more of the major signs of this but I worry that it will cause problems down the road. I am getting iron pills tomorrow to start some kind of treatment. Hopefully I am correct in this and don't need a doctor taking my blood

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. You really do need to follow your doctors orders. There is a difference between synthetic Iron and WHOLE FOOD IRON. The whole food version, does not upset your stomach or cause nausea (or at least as bad) PLUS MOST of the milligrams that is in each pill is actually absorbed into your body to help you. The synthetic version does not absorb fully and you expel most out (about 60-75%) in your urine.

I have anemia, i'm loosing weight (and i'm already slim/thin as i am) my hair is slowly falling out, and sometimes i get palputations in my heart, also i'm paler than i naturally am, but i have a weird yellowy hue type skin. This illness is depressing as hell, i'm only 18, and i'm too self concious to go outside untill it's gone. I've been on iron tablets for 2 days, i've seen an improvement with my heart and i'm slowly regaining energy. Hopefully i can put weight on again and grow my hair back.

It gets better. It takes a while, yes or maybe you just don't feel the effects any more- I don't know. But you do get through it. For me it became so bad that I had to hold onto someone's hand to stand or even walk from one place to another. IV fluid got me back for a while and well, isotonic fluids and protein pills (The after taste is disgusting though, I hate oranges now because of them) but yeah- You do manage. Right now I am recovering from anorexia as well so my life is fun! :P I'm not tired anymore and if I am, I don't care about it anymore. I ain't gonna let a deficiency define me. I like to imagine that I have forgotten to eat as my life is just that awesome. Just hold on. I'm not giving you a motivational speech I'm giving you real talk. Srsly, you either do get used to it or it gets better.

I still have those times though and well, it depends on the situation. FOr example in hiking my friends they walk distances fast and in long breaks. I can't do that because oxygen doesn't reach my muscles as well as them- so I go for l distances slow and short breaks. I either push myself or if it becomes to hard to endure, find something else to do- a small task and then get back later.

I have heard that many supplements contain iron types that are not easily assimilated by the body, such as ferric oxide. I just saw another video which described that parsley, spinach and swiss chard are very good (juiced, especially), for iron deficiency anemia. They said that parsley was the highest of all the vegetables. Best of luck to you!
