Some reef fish are full of personality, acting almost like the family dog. Recognizing reefers who feed them, coming to the glass of the aquarium when it's time for food, and a host of other behaviors gives us this information. But what about other members of our reef tank communities? Clams? Hermit Crabs? Anemones? Research has been done showing that both mollusks and hermit crabs posses personality!
It turns out that at least some Anemones also possess personality! By startling Beadlet Anemones in the tidepools of England this research team found that some are way more cautious than others - they measured how long it took them to reopen their tentacles after squirting them with a jet of water.
This is a really fun animal behavior / marine science study. I encourage you to check it out!
