To me Anette was the “worst” of the three singers Nightwish has had, but her voice is still awesome. She may not have the range of Tarja and Floor, but I think she sings the more “rock” songs in their catalog beautifully because her voice is the most “rock like” of the three. They are all three awesome singers.

Anette may not have been the best fit for Nightwish, especially when trying to perform stuff written for Tarja's soaring soprano, but she's a great singer who has some terrific songs with the band. Check out "Slow, Love, Slow" and "Turn Loose The Mermaids" for some gentler stuff, and "Scaretale" for an absolute vaudevillian banger that even Floor could not improve upon.

Tuomas is an absolute musical genius. He basically has treated each singer’s voice as another instrument and wrote songs for the instruments he had. For live performances, I can definitely say Floor. For studio albums, I can’t really pick. I like all the singers for different reasons

I have see footage of After Forever, night wish, Beste Zangers, Christmas Specials, etc. She can sing anything. It's also inspired by Tarja, as is Dark Passion Play album. But you don't know that unless you know a few things. Tarja's pseudonyme in Nightwish is angel. Hence the angel images you see a lot with Nightwish (like the covers of "Once" and "End of an Era" albums: both foretelling Tarja's era is ending). First verses reveal this song is about Tuomas: he is the one pabtised with a perfect name for a doubting one (Tuomas = Thomas, the doubting apostle). In "Bye Bye Beautiful," the song just before "Amaranth" in the album, Tuomas blames Tarja being blind, not seeing what he wrote in his songs (and yes Bye, Bye, Beautiful is admitted being about Tarja too). Here we have a blind angel, who is killed by the crowd and sent back where she came from. The message couldn't be more clear, I'm sure Nightwish band members understand it. Amaranth is flower with myth never withering, and it is used as a symbol of undying love in the song. Tuomas used earlier withering flower as an image of of dead lovestory, in "Nemo" it was between the pages of two and three (very early in a love story).

Hard to argue. I love the Anette albums and all my favorite NW songs come from the Anette albums but there has never been a song that Floor has touched and hasn't made better. I almost hope Floor never sings Meadows of Heaven, Turn Loose the Mermaids, or Rest Calm just so I can have some Anette songs in my favorite NW songs. All the other Anette era have been supplanted by the Floor live versions.

Annette has another band she's in called Dark Element. You should give them a listen. I'd recommend the song Dark Element from their first album, as well as Halo, Here's to You, and then from their second album, Not Your Monster, Songs the Night Sings, When it all Comes Down, and The Pallbearer Walks Alone. The second album has a more Nightwish sound to it, while still being its own thing. Honestly feel the second album is stronger than their first, but both albums are great and Annette is amazing.

There's clearly a difference between singers. Tarja cant sing songs out of operatic voice which clearly is a problem cus the operatic style wont fit every song's theme and composition. Dark Passion Play (the album Amaranth is from) will always be special to me since it was my introduction to Nightwish. There is legitimately not a bad song on the album, you can start at track 1 and let it play, it's that good. That said, as much of a masterpiece as that album is, Anette was always a stretch to fit vocally with the band, and that showed in the live performances where much of the back catalog from the Tarja era had to be modified or dropped altogether to accommodate Anette's more limited vocal range. Unfortunately Anette's run ended in a somewhat unceremonious firing mid-tour (or quitting, depending on your source), which led straight into the Floor era, and seems to have united the formerly rival Anette and Tarja sides of the fanbase with her undeniable awesomeness.

You could definitely be on to something about the band putting in more effort to compensate, remember, the Dark Passion Play album was their first after the big split, so they definitely had something to prove.That was my intro to them as well, absolutely loved it, same with Imaginaerum ( hope to hear Floor do Turn Lose the Mermaids one day). And I agree about the albums, Endless Forms didn't interest me until I heard the live performances, feels like something didn't quite work in the post-production. Can't wait for the Human ones to be performed live though, Shoemaker obviously, but Tribal as well.

I don't think you can be a true Nightwish fan and only like them with one particular vocalist. Each singer brought something to the band and I personally love that. I have been a fan for a very very long time🤘

I basically see Nightwish as having gone through four style changes: The Tarja era, The Tarja & Marko era, The Anette & Marko era and the Floor & Marko era. I know the music comes mostly from Tuomas but he definitely has changed his style depending on which singers he as to work with. I liked the Tarja era, wasn't wild about it though, liked the Wishmaster album but Oceanborn and AFF not that much. I absolutely loved the TM era, adore both Century Child and Once, was truly amazing. I half loved the AM era, I really loved the albums but Live they weren't quite what they had been. Anette couldn't quite get the Tarja songs right. I also half love the FM era so far. Floor is amazing and she nails both Tarja and Anette's songs. However I've not been that keen on their last studio albums. I'm guessing Tuomas likes to change things up from time to time. I don't hate it, but I'm not as passionate as I was about the TM & AM albums. Still on the whole I love Nightwish, so many songs and albums that have meant something to me don't just go away.

When Nightwish was first formed with Tarja it was symphonic metal, then with Anette it became power metal, then finally went back to symphonic metal with Floor. Anette was only the lead singer for a few years and had to leave because she needed throat surgery while Nightwish was on tour mind you. Nightwish rushed to replace Anette with Floor that same day Anette was admitted to the hospital and had only 6 or so hours to learn all of the songs for the upcoming concert that night.

Hey Alex, you should react to RED again. They are independent since last year and sound heavier than ever on their latest album "Declaration". Check out the song "The Evening Hate". Also listen to STARSET - Trials official video and the epic reimagined version. They did a great job on that. EPIC is also the perfect word to describe the next band i'ld like to suggest: "All Good Things" Their Song "For The Glory" should be played at every major sports event! And last but not least another independent band, since KZbin's been making a lot of problems: Our Last Night, a post-hardcore band with 1.9 Mil subscribers. They're making better covers than Leo Macchiaioli but i want to suggest their original song "Ivory Tower" which ends on a really nice breakdown. Gonna post this until it gets noticed

I like Nightwish with every singer. They all had their own raison d'être. Tarja made Nightwish stand out at the beginning and her operatic voice was awsome. Anette gave them a more popier sound (which is what a lot of fans complained about) She has a good voice but she was to mainstream for my taste. And Floor? Floor has it all, she is the most versitaille singer and the ultimate lucky strike for Nightwish. I personaly prefer Nightwish with Floor, because she really seems to enjoy the songs and has a conection with the band. If you see them live, they never looked happier then with Floor. Tarja seemed always distant. And musicaly Floor can do it all and also gives the over bandmembers space to shine. But I like them all.

Fun fact: the female singer in Amaranthe, Elize Ryd, auditioned to replace Tarja before Anette was chosen. At the end of Anette's run with the band, Elize was one of two female singers who were touring with them (to perform with Kamelot, their opening act), and at one point stepped in and replaced Anette before Floor was brought in to replace Anette.

I’m a Tarja man myself. I think her operatic styling was just the most impressive and best fitting for the band, Floor is amazing because she can do the lot, but just can’t quite hit those operatic notes as well as Tarja which is why she’s a close second. I don’t think Anette fit the band. I like her as a singer, just not as the singer of Nightwish.
