Virgil’s never been the same since his ACL, he marshaled whoever played along side him at the back and he could always be relied upon, that guarantee of him being mr reliable is gone along with his pace, reading of the game and organizing his back line. The way we are playing at the moment is crying out for us to go with 3 CBs with Trent and Robbo pushing on and taking one of the least influential midfielders out ( pick anyone of them). Jurgen needs to seriously look at their defensive issue as no successful team concedes like us

@@ericcrowder714 I didn’t mention Konate!! He was as culpable as anyone though today. He’s a solid CB who is still learning his trade but doesn’t have a lot of quality around him nowadays it seems. The system we play with the full backs pushing on so high up the pitch is the equivalent of the wing backs that was popular in the 90s, however the difference being that the 90s method had 3 CBs covering them when they were up the pitch, the modern version of this we played successfully with 2 CBs defending high up the pitch but with enough pace to deal with the balls over the top. We can’t play this way with CBs lacking pace

Last season vvd showed he might have lost some pace but not his ability to defend. This season he’s gone. It’s like a different player. It doesn’t help that our midfield can’t control and dominate the game. When we lose the ball in quick transitions our midfield is dreadful and with the high line our defence is dead. We’ve conceded 40 big chances this season. Leeds have the most with 41. We lost to Leeds at home. Just goes to show how NBA’s our midfield is. this is what I would play if Elliott absolutely has to play: LW: Nunez ST: Salah RW: Elliott LCM: Thiago CDM: Fabinho RCM: Ox LWB: Robertson LCD: VVD RCD: Matip RWB: TAA GK: Alisson If you play it like this, you have more cover for when Trent goes forward, because Ox does a better job defensively than Harvey Elliott ever will so he can cover Trent when going forward, but this is one of the midfield places we need to strengthen because Ox is leaving in the summer and rightly so + Harvey Elliott should be no where near starting for Liverpool. Not when we want to win trophies, he's a squad player. I don't say this often, but Keita was great when he came on. I still stand by him moving on in the summer though.

Darwin 2...bit harsh...He puts in a shift every game..Unlucky with the blocked shot,and the finish just offside..A forward will always be leaning towards the goal as its natural to do that when running in behind a defence..we looked bright and on it for the first 15 mins..then fell apart..second half we were by far the better team,but didnt create anything much..For me Thiago plays passes square or into small pockets in midfield..He attempted a couple of longer balls but they didnt find their target..The fullbacks and Salah keeps cutting inside..Need to get the overlap going and get in behind the defence to get crosses in..Naby brought a bit more urgency to our midfield. Defending was shocking for all 3 goals..Gakpo is now available,but we wait and see what difference this makes to a team that isnt defending very well..

I think that we need another formation like 3-5-2 with attacking wing backs so that we get our attackers more centralized. As it is now Salah plays too wide in my opinion and the oppositon have learned how to close him down and furthermore they have learned which areas that we exploit in attack. And since tempo is so slow they can close these areas down better. And we need another midfielder, a hungry one.

I really don't want to blame Harvey, he is 19 and played out of position and it's really not its fault because he is playing where he is told. He doesn't pick the team, he doesn't choose the tactics so take everything that I say with this in mind. That being said, I really feel that him playing in the RCM position is causing our entire system to collapse. Being left footed, he likes to cut inside and doesn't look comfortable doing Overlapping runs and so he takes up a lot of space where Salah needs to operate. This causes a problem in our attacks as it tends to get very congested in the RW position and we recycle into the middle of the pitch and try and go again. Trent is also Suffering because there is not a defensive thought that goes through Harvey's brain naturally. You can even pick the moments where he remembers that it is his job to track back and then try his best to get back. That is where his lack of physicality, pace and energy really let him down. He looks like he is running through quicksand with how slow he is and there isn't a tackle in him. I was A massive critic of trent, but I have started noticing how many times he is left with 2 or 3 men on the back post because his midfield partner isn't helping him. I think this is why he is now staying further back preferring to whip crosses in from the half space instead of running to the by line because he knows if he doesn't get back then nobody will. Now i know this also coincides with Fabinho apparently forgetting how to play football but in relation to Harvey he is causing the entire right side to stutter and its a massive massive problem. Do I think he is a good footballer, absolutely. Do I think he has a bright future, absolutely. Do I think we will see him develop with us, absolutely. But I think we need to call a spade a spade and say the Harvey experiment has failed, He has none of the physical attributes you would need for a central midfielder, even more so for a Liverpool CM and it is so unfair for a club to keep playing him there because it could seriously have a negative effect on the rest of his career. Youth confidence is massive and if he feels like he doesn't belong in that team it might not be long before we end up seeing him slip down the team sheet, then out of it completely. On top of that I don't actually place full blame on Klopp, he definitely takes some, But realistically who else can he put in that position. Keita is leaving, he is injury prone and he went to the media and pissed off alot of our supporters. So truth be told I would actually rather see Curtis Jones in that team than him, but even with that, Curtis is a mid table player at best, so after that, Klopp has nobody. So when you really get down to it the blame lies with the people that it always lies with, our poxy, stingy, lazy twat owners that have not invested in this squad in 5 years.

Konates decision to fall over after his average (but recoverable) first touch was shocking and cost us any chance of scraping anything from the game. It was utterly poxy and cowardly defending and he needs to be front and centre and to apologise for it, pathetic showing from a massive physical unit of a man. Brentford had set up with 11 behind the ball for the last 30 mins to see this game out and we didn't even test them by lumping it into our 6 foot centre forward, instead pass pass pass sideways all the way, it was a shitshow of ineptitude on a massive scale. They didn't even need the gifted third goal, such was our lack of threat to get an equaliser. some games, you just have to look at our tactics and see that Klopp is and always has been a one trick pony, it's worked so well at times because we had the players to play his one trick. We need to have a change of system 4-3-1-2 put Salah and Nunez up front side by side with a no. 10 behind them, very few attackers at the moment. This system can easily work with this group of players we used once or twice before and it worked out well in those times. In my opinion 4-3-1-2 is our best formation as it caters well for our attackers

I would buy a tidy right back and move Trent into midfield, would give us a good option in midfield. I don’t think we can continue with Trent at right back

In my opinion klopp has done that for a reason. The club has probably told him they will not be buying any midfielder until the summer and he must know we need something. Otherwise why continue to play a high line? Why leave ox in and bring on Jones? It's not adding up for me.

It was only last season when we were watching Goldbridge & other channels to see their reactions. Now the joke’s on us. Leaky defence, weak midfield & a toothless attck. It’s like we’re back in the 90s. Out of title contention early on & now out of top 4 contention as well. Brilliant. Imagine spending 60+ million on Nunez when there are proven talents like Ivan Toney available. The whole club is in shambles.

I don’t want to sound pessimistic, but I really do believe that Liverpool will NOT finish in the top four. I can see at least another 4 defeats and 5-6 draws, so that means another 24 points dropped. This would give Liverpool a total of 61-63 points. I don’t see that being enough for the top 4. Now what about the Champions League, I believe even the most fanatical Liverpool supporter can’t see them getting to the quarter-finals, let alone winning it. How on earth are they going to beat Real Madrid? This team is no longer the force they used to be. They are conceding far too many goals, not scoring enough goals and missing way too many chances. Their midfield lacks creativity and flair, the team is woefully inconsistent, and most importantly Jürgen Klopp doesn’t seem to have a possible solution!

I totally agree with you Craig...I'm gutted by our lack luster performance...its happened too many times this season....what a let down compared to last season. We're walking onto the field before kickoff thinking that our reputation will win the game....we're a spent force and have been overtaken in all parts of the field by many teams....the entire team needs an overhaul....which is not likely so we've become "another just ran "...will take another few seasons before we are able to compete with the real teams in this league.
