In Hindu astrology, the term "Navagraha" refers to the nine celestial bodies or planets that are believed to influence human life and destiny. These nine celestial bodies include the Sun (Surya), Moon (Chandra), Mars (Mangala), Mercury (Budha), Jupiter (Guru or Brihaspati), Venus (Shukra), Saturn (Shani), Rahu (the ascending lunar node), and Ketu (the descending lunar node).
Angaraka, Planet Mars is the 4th planet from the Sun. It is red in color and a fiery planet. The presiding deity of the planet is Lord Muruga. He is also known as Mangala, Mangal, Kuja. Angaraka is believed to be the son of Bhumi, the Goddess Earth So he is also known as ‘Bhauma’ or Bhumikaraka. Angaraka is portrayed with four hands, carrying a trident, mace, lotus and a spear. Wearing red clothes, he often rides on a ram/goat.
