It could be that Kate briefly died, just long enough for Angel to break down the door, and a higher power brought her back. It could be that someone temporarily changed the rules to allow him to enter. Another explanation is that her suicide call was enough of a cry for help that it counted as an invitation.
@arc737526 күн бұрын
Either she died, allowing Angel to enter and save her life _OR_ Angel was allowed the exception to enter in order to save her. In either case, it’s a miracle. And underpins what Kate says when she states “maybe we’re not alone in this.” It’s a rare win for the heroes.

@@arc7375 agreed, either way works. Except for the visions, the Powers That Be are pretty aloof and mysterious, they seldom spell things out with clarity. Even the visions are just clues, not instructions. I always figured she had stopped breathing, just long enough to be considered dead as far as the rule for vampires is concerned, and Angel got her breathing again - pretty much like what happened to Buffy in Prophecy Girl. But I also figured the PTB may have arranged for Angel to arrive in time, possibly keeping Kate from succumbing until Angel was close enough to do the rest.

Notice at the start of _Epiphany_ how Darla and Buffy and their… _interaction_ with Angel contrasts. One was an expression of pure love and happiness, causing Angel to lose his soul. The other was an expression of pure anguish and despair, causing Liam to recompose himself as Angel, effectively giving himself his own humanity back after a long string of very heinous actions and behaviour. And both times, both Buffy and Darla say the exact same thing: “Was it me? Was I not good?” More importantly, it _finally_ and definitively states that Angel _can_ have sex. His curse isn’t tied to the act of intercourse, as most believe(d). His curse is tied about absolute happiness. He loses his soul the moment he doesn’t have a single bad or troubling thought. Indeed, it was laying next to Buffy with her in his arms that made him lose his soul.

@@razycrandomgirl SPOILERS: Ironically enough, I believe that _is_ a pothole! 😂 I agree that the worries of being a new father gives him enough mental anguish to keep his soul, but the moment Connor smiles at him I imagine would be enough to trigger the soul being lost. Another pothole is when _The Devourer_ makes everyone live in a state of bliss, and Angel is fine. Which the show acknowledges and literally says “yeah…forget about it for now.”

POTN is an _excellent_ analysis channel. And yes, Angel’s curse circuit breaker is total lack of anguish. The moment he doesn’t have a painful or tormenting thought, he loses the soul. It’s not tied to sex at all. It boggles the mind though why they don’t simply _amend_ the curse to make it permanent. Willow is certainly capable of it. And the combined help of Willow, Tara, Giles and Wesley would’ve more than knowledgeable and powerful enough to accomplish it.

17:31 James Masters has said in interviews that some of the creepy, seemingly incongruous, really bad things he had to do as spike literally drove him to therapy, because it made him feel so dirty to be mean in that way. This reminds me of something that could have bothered David; but I don't know, because I haven't heard him talk about it yet. I feel like it's important to remember that spike still has a demon inside him that he's fighting, and that any of his really bad behavior comes from that - - not from who he is as a person.

It's made fairly clear here that simply having sex won't make Angel lose his soul. Having "a moment of perfect happiness" is more emotional than physical. Angel lost his soul not just because he slept with Buffy, but because he slept with the woman he loved. He slept with Darla, but he didn't love her.

I think Epiphany was a really good episode. The writing was brilliant, with Darla saying to Angel 'was I not good' the exact words Buffy said to him in Innocence is S2 of BTVS after they had sex, great writing indeed. Great comedy too when Darla says not only have I got 400 years of experience, but used to do this professionally! Another shocking scene with Kate overdosing and Angel trying to revive her. Great comedy moment too when Wesley invites Angel in when the Demon is in his house, and real fun again when Gunn says' you just wake up and bang, and Angel says sort of the other way around. Lindsay knocking down Angel a great scene was out of the blue, and the terrific scene when Angel smashes the prosthetic arm. A touching part with Kate and Angel towards the end too. Angel apologising was a great scene too when Cordy says' why wasn't I on the floor, and of course Angel is holding her. The old order is restored.

An interesting start to Reprise with the ungrateful customer in the shape of the mother refusing to pay the bill, a reflection on real life of course when a small business gets 'knocked' by a customer. Angel just storming in the office whilst at first seems funny, turns sour quickly with Angel threatening to move Cordelia, Wesley tells him to clear out, the animosity is very real. A shocking scene when Darla takes the glove, and a great fight with Darla and Angel for the ring and glove, Angel again going though a window (have lost count in both shows with window smashing) The abominable Holland Manners returns in the lift in a surreal scene, showing Angel what evil is. Angel in a state of flux here, but has he lost his soul again? We shall see.

Something upsetting to look back at, Cordelia has been impregnated multiple times now on this show. I hate that it is starting to look like a trend that male characters in the show are forcing themselves onto her in this way. Even the visions being forced onto her without her consent feels gross. I get that the predatory nature of these deeds are analogies for the dangers young women face in the real world. I just wish that Charisma Carpenter didn't have to be continuously traumatized by having to act out these storylines.

I don't think the moment where Angel could enter Kate's apartment without invitation needs to be overcomplicated. She was dead dead, so he was able to go in. That's it. And yes it's treated like it's a miracle or sth supernatural from Kate's side but I think she basically *was* telling him she died and he saved her. That alone is a miracle because when you stop breathing biologically you have 8 min before serious brain damage. It can be seen as an epiphany of hers to not give up

Ok…this to me makes absolutely no sense. At all. It’s a double negative for me. So, the real question is: If all that matters is what we do, how can nothing we do matters? It cancels itself out. No sense at all. I seriously don’t get it. Thoughts anyone? I’m lost…seriously…🤦♂️
@liquid_pig10 күн бұрын
The order in which these thoughts are presented is important. Nothing we do matters = Life has no inherent meaning. There is no cosmic goal or reward for anything we do. We simply exist for a brief moment, then we are gone and the universe goes on without us. Which leads us to... All that matters is what we do = If there is no grand cosmic plan, no mandated end goal to life, then all we really have is the time we've been given to exist on this earth. We have to -- or, put more optimistically, get to -- decide what to do with it. And Angel in this episode realizes that you might as well use your time to make existence better for the people around you. That kindness in itself matters independent of some higher power tallying your morality points. It's the core idea of the philosophical school of thought called existentialism; life is absurd and meaningless, so we can and must create our own meaning. Another way of framing it would be: "Nothing we do matters [in the grand scale of the universe] so all that matters is what we do [in our daily lives to ourselves and to whoever/whatever else we have the power to impact]"

Definitely a spoiler, if they believe it then they stop wondering when she's going to be back, if at all. By just stating that, it removes part of what they might wonder or anticipate. Many reactors speculate about such things as when a given character will return, and in some cases it is almost obsessive, like with a certain reactor who basically wants Farla in every episode... If it isn't information they should have from just watching, it is a spoiler.
