This song makes me cry every time just makes me think of my father who passed away in May. The lyrics just captivate what I think of our situation. I love you dad. I wish you opened a window sometime.
@Danzka3548 жыл бұрын
I think that the children represent the innocence, they enjoy themselves with a very few things (running around a carpet) and they are happy while angel feels empty and expresses no expression, the vaseline may represent her inability to be touched by the outer world (every things slips on her) during the period of suffering (depression)(even the kids' happiness which is normally very communicative doesn't move her). The costume might represent an illusionary and a desired image of herself, of the person she could have been in a better life, the autumn leaves around her imagined self could represent that this dream is falling apart as she thinks to have lost every strenght she had left... In the finale image she raises her eyes, maybe hope? this is my personal interpretation!

wow thank you!

Bear in mind that, most of the time, music videos have the Director's personal view. Maybe Angel and Rick collaborated together to reach this result :)
@Ghues7 жыл бұрын
That seems like a sound interpretation. The costume, however, immediately reminded me of Mary of Scotland, who was, though sovereign, known as an unapproachable woman as well as the Virgin Queen. Thus, it amplifies Angel's isolation and inability to have human relationships, which can also be seen by how out of place she looks in this empty room with the leaves and undergrowth around her that makes it very difficult for people to reach her.

Been waiting to hear this since I was born. Going to buy my first record player and record because of this song. For folks confused about the meaning, it helps to realize the song and the video are two separate creations. The song is incredibly simple, and profound. I felt it was about how we become blind and numb to the beauty of the world and being alive because we obscure our perception of it, and Angel is gently but powerfully calling us back, to let it in, to be present, to feel, to see. The video picked up on that, but there are other metaphors too. Her face representing the window to her soul; being painted by kids perhaps suggests it's not as clear as it was when she was a kid. So it's not just our perception which has become obscured, but also our expression of our inner selves. Calling us to shine, to let the light out.

@tas60297 жыл бұрын
It's not an inspirational show: 13RW breaks all the rules provided by all the associations that try to prevent suicide on how portray it on screen. It can actually increase the number of suicides among its viewers by triggering them. I know a lot of people love the show but I think we should not think of ourselves only. This show needs to be stopped.
@geraldedwardmyhill88817 жыл бұрын
I love this song but totally with you on what you said Thibault A. That show was just completely misguided and some of the scenes were like a bad soap from New Zealand or something made by people who pretty obviously had no idea what they were trying to portray and what feeling suicidal is like or what it takes for someone to make the choice to end their life (why didn't the silly girl just leave the school, do homeschooling or something, move to her grandmother's home, why was she in the hot tub at the home of the guy who raped her? How come she was pretty much good at making an elaborate plan involving tapes and people and order when normally someone who is suicidal can't even get out of bed) so much unreality just made all her reasons seem invalid. And as you mentioned. I support Project Semicolon (USA) here in the UK and what i see is something which has become almost fashionable among young people (mental health issues and suicidal feelings) So sad, wouldn't it be good to have a real portrayal of what leads someone to end their own life. People don't want to die, they want to end the pain. They need a hand to hold and hold tight. The girl in that show was exactly that, just a girl in a bad show.

this song always makes me cry. her voice is always so soothing to me. let this song be a reminder to all of you that things DO get better. whether you've been sexually assaulted, feeling suicidal,, or something's just bringing you down. lift your head up, the light will come again soon.

This is a beautiful song and video! I enjoy the interpretations, and different ways of looking at it. It's so good to share and be inspired enough to write about it. What I got from it was that Angel (or her character) is imagining herself as this beautiful and regal figure. Like an art piece in a museum. Loved and actualized, not for living or even being pleasant - but just for being there. But even that regal figure isn't happy or even "real". Meanwhile the children seem to be so effortlessly enjoying themselves, and in their same reality she becomes like a prop for them to play with because she's so absent in her own real life. It's also ironic because the character's fantasy about being this other legendary museum figure won't even give her what she wants (she wants the light, what the children have) as she is already very much like her without the fancy clothes etc.. The children provide the contrast for her not even seeing whats right in front of her. She's totally pre-occupied with an empty ness. Great Job!!

I don’t mean to be negative, but it’s a lot harder than that. I know you mean well, so thank you for your message. But depression, it feels like you’re trapped in a box. You keep trying to push, to escape. But no matter how *hard* you try to get out, you’re stuck. It starts to make you angry, because you aren’t in control of your own damn life. When you try to scream for help, it’s like no sound comes out. You feel alone. You feel useless. And eventually, it breaks you. You just stop caring.

Only very few can understand this song, those who suffer with depression like me feel it as the song of our heart.That choking pain we can't share with anyone but feels like if there's a shoulder for us to cry.All the alone battles inside where every time we loose and the tears conquering us.It's worst to mold that pain in words,cause that pain is indescribable with words.

hello, my two penneth on the video. the angel is depressed/agoraphobic. the vaseline scene is a bit of a mystery, but the children have helped her realise herself and the trivialities of this world that can sometimes crush us, despite their relatively innocuous impression to the wider world. the scene where she transforms is metaphorical and purposely visually discordant. she is the phoenix rising, reborn, she has returned to the world, brought back from the edge of oblivion by the tender touch of innocent youth. this video/music inspires me. i am moved. i'm going outside.

@@miad6160 So my interpretation of the vaseline part is that it's like here armor....it's a healing thing. Then she becomes the queen inside. I interpret it this way because the song has so much about sort of a fear of the light...trying to hide from the light by not opening a window....hiding from the injuries of life. But she starts to question "what's so wrong with the light?"....Since the light and life has burned her, almost like a sunburn, the children (perhaps the male and female of her inner child?)...rub the vaseline on her to heal the burn / wound. Vaseline was often used on sunburns and other wounds when I was a kid...it was common for older generations.....with the healing she became the best version of herself..the queen.

En 2017 conocí está canción por 13 Reason Why... Y a día doy, en 2022 me sigue haciendo sentir mucha nostalgia. 🥺✨
