I disagree with some of his slightly backwards patriarchal sensibilities, due to his culture, but other than that I really love this guy and feel so sorry for him. All he wants is to have a wife he’s physically and mentally attracted to, and to have a family of his own to love. In my opinion, having someone you’re intimately AND mentally attracted to should be the cornerstone of every engaged couple’s relationship. No, it takes longer than the short couple of visits they've been together, for it to be Stockholm Syndrome. Besides, Michael is not trapped with, living with, his abuser.....they've never even lived together, spent 2 weeks at most together with long gaps and months in between the few 2 week visits in Africa. So, no it's definitely not Stockholm Syndrome.

Here is the truth from an African who understands our culture very well. Angela and Micheal are not headed anywhere. In my continent many families will consider a couple with 12 female children as childless talk less of one that has not had any. Micheal will eventually end up with a woman that can bare him sons.
