I think what’s happening with Ms Bassett is for the most part thru out her career she has ALWAYS played a strong black woman and in real life she is a strong black woman obviously. So I’m thinking the academy will recognize her when she plays a part that is the complete antithesis of what she typically does. And it’s actually kind of a shame that it has to result to that. It’s almost like how Denzel had to play a crooked cop before he won or Halle Berry in the explicit sex scene in Monsters Ball. Ms Bassett literally will have to play a broken down character that we NEVER seen her play before. Sad tho. I love both these women and both are so deserving!! But I will say Jamie lee Curtis has been around since the mid 70s and I was shocked when I found out she has never won an Oscar. Her mom Janet Leigh was the original it girl in the 50s when psycho came out. Her career took off. Let’s not shit on her name. But ms Tina darling idk….. I'm a huge Angela Bassett fan, but I wasn't surprised when she lost. She may have won the Golden Globe and Critic's Choice , but they don't overlap with the Oscars. She lost the Bafta (which surprised no one). At the SAG awards, to whom did Angela lose the award to? The answer is Jaimie Lee Curtis!!! When the Oscar nominations were announced, EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE had 11 nominations (including Best Picture) while BLACK PANTHER had 5. Jaimie was able to take advantage of the film's momentum and popularity. Let's also not forget the bias some Academy voters still have over the Marvel franchise. By the way ladies, I'm disappointed some of you treated Michelle Yeoh's historic win as a footnote. The Oscars have been around for 95 years, and an Asian actress has finally won in the lead category. This should also be celebrated.

The Oscar Academy loves Halle for taking that risk in doing those scenes in Monster's Ball.. Vanessa Williams was also offered the role but turned it down, however, Vanessa never shaded Halle for accepting the role.

Angela should be able to express her emotions without people policing her reaction. We see a small clip and think we know the full story but if you see more of the video you can see that she look like she was devastated and possibly trying not to cry and the fact that she didn't, shows that she can keep her composure very well although she didn't have to. When you are hurt sometimes it's hard to fake and smile without tearing up so let's not act like we don't know what that feels like.
