Unfortunately, the 90s was the last decade of the popularity of great jazz artists such as these. I'd love to see a revival. Yes, people respect the genre but it rarely has big record sales. Alas, we do have videos like these to help to recollect what music craftmanship paired with outstanding vocals sounds like.

I was in college in 1980s and Angela Bofill was popular here in Philippines. I remember her powerful voice and her songs often played on our radio. She had a duet with Sharon Cuneta a popular singer here. She had several concerts here. Thank you Ms Bofill for making your Filipino fans happy. Rest in peace.

I wasn't feeling the garb. I'm not sure why she chose that. Phyllis has passed just 2 years before this and they weren't on the best of terms. A tribute, perhaps?
@tonnymitch40163 жыл бұрын
@@TyStephens why weren’t they on the best of terms?
@TyStephens3 жыл бұрын
@@tonnymitch4016 I can't speak directly to it, since I was never privy to the interaction, but I think Phyllis felt Angie was in direct competition with her. Same market, same size, same scene, similar look and style, and people would often mistake one for the other. It makes me wonder if the record power people were trying to create a replacement for Phyllis, as she was a bit of a challenge to handle, being bi-polar. But, when I see Angie cop Phyllis' style, it does cause me concern, and I LOVE Angie! But, EVERYONE knows Phyllis' style when they see it. No mistaking. I was at one concert where Phyllis was not very kind in introducing Angie, who was among the other notables in her audience. Don't remember what was said, but it wasn't very friendly.
