Melissa's death at the beginning of season 8, Maggie's death at the beginning of season 9 and then this strange suffocation scene a few episodes later that rendered Angela comatose...the show took some bad turns near the end. This is not how you reward faithful viewers and fans of three long-running characters.

She came out of the coma and returned to the show for the last two episodes. In real life, Ms. Wyman was dealing with some health issues although I've also heard that she left because the didn't like the tone of the new season, which went very dark.

Agree. It was too over-the-top. If Jane Wyman needed time off, there were better ways to temporarily write her out. Personally, I would have sent Angela to Europe to help her ex-husband Peter Stavros with some business deal. There was no need for such a graphically violent scene. It just didn't fit the character. The only way this would have semi-worked if is the person that came back to harm Angela was her occasionally deranged daughter Julia (Abby Dalton) but by this point, Julia had reformed and was living in Oregon as a nun. Season 9 had a lot of low points, but this moment was clearly the worst.
