Merkel has certainly not forgotten that. In June, she blew up the G7 summit, which Trump wanted to use as a show event in the White House to enhance his image. Merkel has already invited Trump to make a state visit to Germany in 2017, and it looks like he is not interested either. He will be the first president in ages who will NOT make a state visit to Germany. But if he is re-elected, they may see each other again in life before Merkel leaves office at the end of 2021.

Therefore, if a crime occurs and no nationality of the perpetrator is named, we know that it is a foreigner. That is A. Merkel's policy. That is why we sometimes call her traitor to the people. She is excellent on the international political stage. She is active when there are international conflicts to settle. She has my greatest respect in these matters. When the terrorist acts took place in France or other countries, she immediately called the heads of government and offered her condolences. As the terrorist act took place at a Berlin on Christmas 2016, she was first heard from on the third day after the attack. She does not feel well then because it is a refugee and she is therefore held responsible in the population. We have never heard her admit a wrong decision. Most Germans are happy when she disappears in September. But unfortunately their own party cannot come up with a better candidate. Only two times in her now 14 years as chancellorette of Germany she had something like an emotional moment. First was after Fukoshima, second was when we saw those 10,000 refugees in the main station of Budapest. She only said that we and Austria (don’t forget Austria, they did this together with us) will take THOSE refugees - ignoring Schengen rules only for this special group. But then everyone was reporting on Merkel and both sides - the refugees and the far-right - said that she has opened the borders of Germany. But this claim is totally absurd cause Germany has no single _closed_ border since decades, there are no controls and no infrastructure on any border Germany has to its neighbours.

Its also worth noting that Mrs Merkel has refused to attend the G7 summit this year which is being hosted by Trump in the US. Canada's Justin Trudeau has also said the same. Merkel's official polite reason is that in the time of covid she does not want to travel but its plain that everybody is waiting for the new US Biden administration next year. You may find this surprising, but she's very much respected by a lot of Brits. Those of us who know what a fricking disaster is about to land on us, and have some understanding of European and world politics. I know she _ can_ be seen as divisive in Germany, as I've been told about it (my sister lives in Bavaria - married to a German since the early 70s. It's a country I'm very fond of), but as it was with Presidents Clinton and Obama, global opinion is far more positive towards her, especially amongst the politically literate "man on the street". She comes across as having her head screwed on (i.e. she's full of common sense). That is a trait that's sadly been lacking in the US and UK over the last few years. I would much rather have someone like her as PM. Heck, I detest BJ so much I'd rather we had an autocratic monarchy, because I know without hesitation that the Queen would actually make decisions for the betterment of the people. I'd like to be able to dip in and out of the two systems, depending on who's best at the time lol.

So lawyers who want to "save taxes" get less money, nurses, teachers, fireworkers, policemen +++ get more money.

@Junah Moreau It's not significant that Merkel is the German leader or head of state because she is not. That's one of the good things about Germany, there is no strong leader like in the US or in France. It was a mistake to give to much power to only one person. That mistake made in the constitution of the first german democracy was corrected in the second one.
