Having no borders is not Merkels decision, its a EU treaty called Schengen. It worked fine until the Eastern European countries joined the EU, and later refugees start to exploit it too. Inviting in millions is of course retarded and it was a mistake, and I'm sure Merkel knows it too. The German Government didnt expect that number at all. They originally thought there'd be not more than 10.000. Anyways, that is just a friction of her politics, Germans generally care most about a stable economy, thats where she is center, or even right-center. You'd be shocked if you read Programs of the SPD, die Linke or the Grüne. They are incredibly left wing, just barely away from communism/socialism.
